Constitution Hall to Host GOP Debate

Republican candidates will gather for a debate on foreign policy and national defense on Nov. 22 at DAR Constitution Hall. The debate, presented by The Heritage Foundation and American Enterprise Institute on CNN, will be moderated by Wolf Blitzer. Constitution Hall, located across the street from the White House, was built in 1929 by the Daughters of the American Revolution for its annual convention. Today it is one of the largest event venues in Washington, D.C. The debate will include eight Republican presidential candidates: businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. … More

Mr. Carney, Stop Misrepresenting Heritage’s Position

We understand that the White House is experiencing some difficulties of late across many fronts—the Solyndra scandal and Operation Fast and Furious are two issues that come to mind. That, however, does not give spokesman Jay Carney license to misrepresent what The Heritage Foundation supports or does not. Yesterday Mr. Carney once again defended Obamacare, this time by strongly implying that we think the health care law is wise and Constitutional. Specifically, the spokesman said: We note that not only have lower courts upheld its constitutionality, but the fact of the individual mandate … More

EPAA: Fact or Fiction in the Future?

The White House has recently announced more details about the European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), a ballistic missile defense plan for the protection of allies and friends in Europe and the U.S. homeland in its later stages. While the EPAA has certain good aspects, including advancing the Aegis sea-based missile defense capability, it would not provide the kind of robust missile defenses needed by the United States and its friends and allies. For example, it is not until the Phase Four (2020) timeframe that the plan would provide additional defensive … More

Washington in a Flash: Packers invade White House

After a night of fun in New York, President Obama will welcome the Super Bowl XLV Champion Green Bay Packers to the White House today, despite the bitter rivalry between the President’s beloved Bears and the Cheeseheads. The Packers will be honored for their victory and team efforts. They will also be recognized for their philanthropic efforts. Last night’s presidential debate in Ames, Iowa was anything but calm. Minnesotans Michelle Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty had perhaps the most significant heated exchanges, with the presidential hopefuls trading a set of fiery one-liners. The … More

White House Confirms It Will Likely Sign Any Debt Deal Congress Sends

In an accidental moment of honesty, White House Deputy Press Secretary Dan Pfeiffer today admitted on Twitter that President Obama will likely sign any debt deal Congress sends his way. This revelation came in an exchange with Stephen Gutowski, the blogger known as The College Politico. Gutowski asked Pfeiffer: “Do you see a scenario where the house & senate pass a deal but the President doesn’t sign it?” and Pfeiffer responded: “No, bc only something that has R and D support can pass both bodies”. Up until today, the White … More

Scribecast: Rep. Darrell Issa Discusses Operation Fast and Furious

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) says the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is finally “beginning to break down the walls of silence and refusal” from the Obama administration about the Operation Fast and Furious scandal. As its chairman, Issa has doggedly pursued answers on the illegal gun trafficking operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This week on Scribecast, we spoke to Issa about Operation Fast and Furious, his investigation of President Obama’s questionable fundraising activities at the White House, and his plan for reforming the U.S. Postal Service. … More

White House Deceptive, Not Schizophrenic, on Nuclear Weapons

Keir A. Lieber and Daryl G. Press, in their short piece of July 6 in Foreign Affairs, assert that the Obama Administration’s nuclear weapons policy appears to be schizophrenic. By describing the policy in this way, Lieber and Press are giving the Obama Administration more credit regarding its commitment to nuclear modernization than it deserves. It is more accurate to describe the Obama Administration as being deceptive about its nuclear weapons policy. The Obama Administration’s nuclear weapons policy, in reality, is both clear and consistent. It seeks nuclear disarmament and … More

Washington in a Flash: Another Day of Debt Talks

Republicans and Democrats left the White House last night without a deal on the debt limit, but they’ll be back at work this morning after a weekend of maneuvering. Expect to learn more at 11 a.m. when President Obama talks to the press. Both houses of Congress are in session this week. The House takes up the ban on incandescent light bulbs as the Senate debates a resolution expressing support for hiking taxes on millionaires. Heritage Action’s Josh Robbins has the details.

Chicago-Style Politics on Twitter: How the White House Uses Social Media

President Obama takes questions later today at the first-ever Twitter town hall. This high-profile event is yet another example of the White House’s embrace of social media to communicate directly with Americans But behind the scenes, there’s another story unfolding about the Obama administration’s use of Twitter. For some White House staffers, it’s a way to bully critics and promote a liberal agenda. In fact, that’s one employee’s job. Jesse Lee is the White House’s director of progressive media and online response. It’s his job to rebut bad news about … More
