Video of the Week: JFK Says No to Obama Tax Hikes

As Congress returns to Washington next week, the fight over the Obama Tax Hikes has already begun. President Obama has indicated that he plans to allow taxes to rise while also announcing a new “stimulus” that even some in the White House refuse to promise will stimulate the economy. The Winston Group has created a new video contrasting President Obama’s positions on taxes with that of another president who understood the importance of keeping taxes low: President John F. Kennedy. As we explained in our own video last month, the … More

Video of the Week: Where is Your Congressman?

Heritage’s sister organization, Heritage  Action for America, recently released a video asking this very question. It is  a humorous video (starring veteran actor Clint Howard) that points to a more serious problem. Where are the congressmen in August? Are they holding townhall meetings to address constituent concerns? If not, what are they hiding? Are they ashamed that they did not pass a budget? Ashamed of the vote on Health Care? We have written about all this Congress has done in the last two years, and the August recess is a … More

Video of the Week: The New Orleans School Choice Experiment

Our friends at ReasonTV have put out a great new video highlighting the strides that have been made towards school choice in New Orleans following the Hurricane Katrina disaster. As ReasonTV Editor Nick Gillespie says in the video, few people could have predicted the improvements in education that would result, but “sometimes things get so bad that radical change can happen.” Before Katrina, the New Orleans school system was in terrible shape. As one mother explains, when they were displaced to Baton Rouge during the cleanup, she found much better schools … More

Video of the Week: “Shut up! You Can’t Sing the National Anthem Here!”

Take heed, America. The next time you visit Washington, D.C., feel free to stand in awe of the monuments to our greatest leaders, but do not — DO NOT — sing the National Anthem at the Lincoln Memorial. It turns out that doing so is a violation of federal law. A group of high school students from around the country learned that lesson the hard way on June 25 when they sang the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Lincoln Memorial. A United States Park Police officer told them to pipe … More

Live From the Gulf: A Rallying Song for America

As President Obama’s Oil Spill Commission met in New Orleans, Louisiana yesterday, they were met with an unexpected surprise. Drew Landry, a Lafayette native and singer-songwriter treated the commission to a rallying cry for the people of the Gulf, and some wise advice. The Huffington Post reports: “”We definitely need other solutions, going green — whatever it takes, man,” Landry said, addressing commission co-chair Bob Graham, a former Democratic senator from Florida. “We’ve got nothing. We don’t want to be a welfare state. There’s no point in that. We’re hardworking … More

Video of the Week: Gov. Chris Christie Serves-Up Some Common Sense

Love him or hate him, you’ve got to admit that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not afraid to take a stand, speak his mind, or face the heat while doing it. He served up his latest dish of no-nonsense honesty at a townhall in Rutherford, New Jersey, on Tuesday in defense of his plan to reform the Garden State’s bloated budget through an overhaul of civil service, reform of public pensions, and a constitutional cap on property tax growth. And he’s taking flak for it. As you can see … More

Video of the Week: Al Gore’s Doomsday Commencement Speech

A college graduation is a great achievement that is the culmination of years of hard work, feverish paper writing, and the occasional all-nighter.  So when college students get to their graduation ceremony, they are usually greeted with a great celebration. They are also very positive affairs with well-known speakers giving a speech that makes it an unforgettable day. As well it should be. Former Vice President Al Gore seems to have not gotten the memo. You see, he used a commencement speech at the University of Tennessee as a political … More

Video of the Week: Pennsylvania Department of Revenue’s Ode to Orwell

The scene opens up on an image of the Earth and slowly zooms in down through the clouds while an ominous female narrator declares, “Your name is Tom … You live just off of 5th Street … Nice car, Tom—nice house.” As the camera sinks lower and lower, it finally stops to hovers over Tom’s house while the narrator warns him to pay his outstanding debt because after all, “we do know who you are.” The scene fades and the words, “Find Us Before We Find You” are flashed on the screen … More

Video of the Week: Billie Tucker’s Inspiring Tea Party Story

Billie Tucker is a wife, a mom, a businesswoman, and now she’s a Tea Partier. At last weekend’s Heritage Resource Bank, she told an inspiring story about her frustrations with the direction our country is headed and why she became motivated to make her voice heard. “All of a sudden I wake up, and my country is in so much trouble,” she said. “It’s affecting my kids and their future, and I gotta tell you, when they say ‘You’re a bunch of angry people,’ well wouldn’t it make you angry?” … More

Video of the Week: Three Reasons Why Public Sector Unions are Killing the Economy

The folks over at Reason.tv have produced a great video explaining how public sector unions are stifling economic recovery. It notes that unionized workers already made more than their private sector counterparts before the recession and that the pay gap has only grown since then. Government jobs don’t create wealth because all the money they spend comes from tax dollars that are taken from another part of the economy. Government union jobs are not a net gain like a private sector jobs are. With the Obama Administration hiring more and … More
