VIDEO: Sen. Toomey on the Tea Party vs. Washington Establishment

The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas sat down with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) to talk about the rise of the Tea Party and its confrontation with the Washington establishment. “The Tea Party movement has been enormously constructive,” Toomey said the in the interview. “After we had the most liberal elected government in the history of the republic, take this lurch to the left and try to remake American society along the lines of the European welfare state, what we had was this wonderful spontaneous uprising.” Toomey said he hoped Tea Party … More

    Liberals, Conservatives and Human Nature

What explains such passionate philosophical disagreement between the Occupy Wall Street movement and the Tea Party? The seemingly insurmountable divide between left and right is perhaps most clearly understood by their respective concepts of human nature. As understood by our Founders, human nature is innate. In the words of the Declaration of Independence, individuals are “endowed by their creator” with “natural rights,” among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Beyond that, individuals are born with different faculties and talents. Government should allow individuals to freely cultivate these … More

Tea Party Leader Calls Comparisons to Occupy Wall Street ‘Insulting’

Media coverage of Occupy Wall Street has dominated the news lately, supplanting stories about the Tea Party movement and the grassroots uprising that took Washington by storm. For one of the movement’s early leaders, it has come as no surprise. Jenny Beth Martin is a co-founder and national coordinator for Tea Party Patriots. Today she continues to fight against big government, albeit while fending off comparisons to Occupy Wall Street. In an interview with Ginni Thomas at The Daily Caller, Martin talked about the early rise of Tea Party and … More

Occupy Wall Street Is No Tea Party

The past few years have witnessed the rise and fall of several left-leaning political fads, each touted as a response to the rise of the Tea Party Movement: the Coffee Party, One Nation, and Jon Stewart’s and Stephen Colbert’ s Rally to Restore Sanity. A month after the Wall Street occupation began, the protesters say they are just getting started. But a month is more than enough time to see that Occupy Wall Street is no Tea Party. For one thing, Wall Street occupiers call themselves the 99 percent. They … More

    Over 2,400 Tea Partiers Arrested

The liberal perspective on the “Occupy” movement is really something spectacular. Before the movement had really even announced a position or set of “demands,” progressives were pushing each other out of the way to embrace it. When they did finally come up with a set of ideals, which mostly involve eliminating their personally accrued debt, President Obama practically made it his new national agenda, branded “We Can’t Wait.” Now you have Hollywood “celebrities” like mega-millionaires Russell Simmons, Katy Perry and Russell Brand hopping by for a photo-op with the anti-capitalist … More

Sen. Rand Paul on Occupy Wall Street, Repealing No Child Left Behind

The latest iteration of No Child Left Behind comes before a Senate committee tomorrow with bipartisan support. But if Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has anything to say about it, the bill won’t go anywhere fast. Paul, the Tea Party favorite who won election last November, has promised to introduce 100 amendments, including a complete repeal of No Child Left Behind. That could significantly slow down the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. His approach seeks to reduce the federal government’s role in education and return control to local communities. … More
