    While the Obama Administration waffles on openness and transparency (see here and here), private citizens are stepping in to fill the void. The Heritage Foundation and other groups launched ReadtheStimulus.org to give citizens a chance to work their way through the massive spending proposal, flag suspicious language, and make suggestions.     Forests Need Shovels Too

    The left’s big search for ‘shovel ready‘ projects continues. The White House Bulletin reports that New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman, Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee, “expressed concern that the economic stimulus package lacks sufficient funding for backlogged national park and water projects.” Actually, Bingaman went beyond “concern,” to offer a $17.5 billion shopping list including: $9.5 billion for “deferred maintenance” in national parks; $5 billion for backlogged “road and trail maintenance in the national forests;” and, $3 billion for “aging water infrastructure.” National Parks may be … More

    One big worry for big government lovers who are pushing for Obama’s stimulus plan to include more government spending and less tax cuts is that “there’s a limited supply of ‘shovel-ready’ projects that can be started soon enough.” Thanks to mother nature this worry is now entirely misplaced.
