Obamacare was pushed into law with the hope that the more Americans learned about it, the more they would like it. That has not happened. Americans remain strongly opposed to the health law and its expansion of the role of government in their lives. The more they learn about the law, the less they like it and the more they search for an alternative, like Heritage’s Saving the American Dream proposal, that empowers patients, reduces costs, and ensures access.

Pledge to America is Step in Right Direction

House Republicans should be commended for offering an alternative vision for America’s future, in their Pledge to America. It is an important element in moving America in the right direction. Conservatives must present ideas to America that are consistent with our nation’s founding principles and empower people, not government. The … More

    Obamacare’s Prescription for Inanity

Regulators have begun issuing some of the hundreds, if not thousands, of regulations necessary to implement Obamacare. Among them is a new restriction on health reimbursement accounts that exemplifies the lunacy of the entire health care scheme. Health reimbursement accounts (HRA) provide tax breaks for deposits used to pay medical … More

Side Effects: Premiums Will Rise Because of Obamacare

By now, most Americans who have been following the effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) realize that the health care overhaul is going to cause health insurance premiums to increase. Even President Obama admitted that his health care plan was “going to increase our costs—we knew … More

The Fight to Protect Your Employee Health Care Coverage

A year ago, the President addressed Congress and the American people to explain his vision for the health care plan that would later be signed into law. During that speech, President Obama said that “if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through … More

Morning Bell: Six Months Closer to Repeal

Before Obamacare was passed six months ago today, former President Bill Clinton promised a leftist horde at the Netroots Nation convention: “The minute the president signs the health care reform bill, approval will go up, because Americans are inherently optimistic.” Fast forward to last Sunday, when, after Meet the Press … More

The Right Way to Limit Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions

The inability of some Americans to obtain health insurance for pre-existing medical conditions continues to be used by Obamacare supporters as justification for the mammoth legislation.  The truth, however, is that the problem was nowhere near as big as portrayed, and the solution doesn’t require 2700 pages of legislation or … More

Side Effects: The Obamacare Threat to Your Liberty

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that several health insurers “plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul.” Starting this year, Obamacare prohibits plans from placing lifetime limits on coverage, severely limits rescissions, and requires all plans to cover children up to … More

    OMG, Unintended Consequences!

“Some of the country’s most prominent health insurance companies have decided to stop offering new child-only plans, rather than comply with rules in the new health-care law that will require such plans to start accepting children with preexisting medical conditions after Sept. 23,” the Washington Post reports. The Post quotes one … More

    Massive Medicare Advantage Cuts

President Barack Obama has repeatedly said, “If you like your health plan, you can keep it.” But is that true? Most likely not, if your plan is a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan. MA is the “private option” within Medicare in which private health insurers are paid a fixed monthly fee … More

Side Effects: Fuzzy Math Won’t Bend the Health Care Cost Curve

Obamacare will force health care spending to rise faster and higher over the next decade than if Congress had just left the nation’s health system unchanged.  That’s according to a recent report from the Office of the Actuary at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The report projects the … More
