  • Obamacare

Obamacare was pushed into law with the hope that the more Americans learned about it, the more they would like it. That has not happened. Americans remain strongly opposed to the health law and its expansion of the role of government in their lives. The more they learn about the law, the less they like it and the more they search for an alternative, like Heritage’s Saving the American Dream proposal, that empowers patients, reduces costs, and ensures access.

Anti-Conscience Mandate Halted Against Second Family-Owned Business

A second federal district court has granted a preliminary injunction halting enforcement of Obamacare’s conscience-crushing contraception mandate. Late Wednesday, Michigan Federal District Court Judge Robert H. Cleland ruled in favor of family-owned lawn and supply store Weingartz Supply Company and its owner, Daniel Weingartz. Colorado District Court Judge John L. … More

Medicare Roundup 11/2: Setting the Record Straight

In recent weeks, liberal politicians, editorialists, and policy analysts have vigorously attacked reform of Medicare based on defined-contribution financing. In fact, this approach to reforming Medicare has a long bipartisan tradition going back to the 1980s and Representatives Richard Gephardt (D–MO) and David Stockman (R–MI). In fact, much of this … More

5 Effects Obamacare Will Have on Working Americans

Obamacare will certainly have a negative impact on every American, but here are five ways it will harm working Americans: Two-thirds of American employees’ wages will decrease as employers deal with increasing costs. Heritage’s Drew Gonshorowski explains the results of an Urban Institute study: “The Urban Institute claims that mid-size … More

A Frightful Halloween for Religious Liberty

There’s something frightful brewing in courtrooms across the country this week. As … More

Morning Bell: The Specter of Taxmageddon Rises

On this Halloween, a truly frightening specter is looming. No amount of garlic, crosses, or exorcists can help us—only Congress and the President can chase this ghoul away. It’s Taxmageddon. A horrifying combination of expiring pro-growth tax policies from 2001 and 2003, the end of the once-temporary payroll tax cut, … More

    Backward on Women’s Dignity

“We have made woman a sex creature,” complained a psychiatrist at the Margaret Sanger clinic, according to Betty Friedan’s 1963 book The Feminist Mystique. A half-century later, a new Obama ad proudly likens voting for the first time to a young woman losing her virginity. You’ve come a long way, … More

Sitting on Sidelines “Not an Option” for Faithful

It’s not every day that a Heritage scholar offers to help comedian Stephen Colbert make sense of how Christians, especially young evangelicals, can apply biblical principles to politics in our pluralist culture. But it’s good to share the burden of a neighbor — even one so “befuddled” as Colbert — … More

    The Contraception Misconception

The contraception debate in a nutshell: There is no contraception debate. No one—neither Republicans nor the more than 100 individuals and organizations suing over the HHS mandate—is calling for a ban on contraception. Governor Romney has said that “with regards to contraceptives, of course, Republicans, and myself in particular, recognize … More

Morning Bell: Obama’s “New Economic Patriotism”

President Obama has a new booklet—a glossy, 20-page spread called “The New Economic Patriotism: A Plan for Jobs and Middle-Class Security.” The title is completely Orwellian, since the plan—which is nothing new—would actually kill jobs, harming the middle class. As expected, the “new patriotism” means paying more in taxes for … More
