Obamacare – The Raw and Undeniable Facts

Each time a new study or report sheds light on the Obamacare’s true effects on Americans’ health care, the left fights back with tiresome accusations that the source is disreputable, partisan or “sides” with the insurance companies, ad nauseum. How many professional experts are going to have to find fault with the House and Senate health bills before the Left and their allies in Congress stop repeating the age-old adage: “Everyone else is crazy, I alone am sane”? The terrible truth, of course, is that these reports are right. In … More

Baucus Bill Does Not Bend the Cost Curve

A Lewin Group study commissioned by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, finds that although the Baucus health care bill (the legislation that recently passed the Senate Finance Committee) is often touted as the most fiscally responsible of all of Congress’s reform plans, it “relies on certain cost containment approaches that have not worked in the past” and therefore “does not bend the total health care cost curve downward.” Rather than fundamentally realigning incentives in the health sector to lower the overall cost of care, the Baucus bill imposes top down … More

WaPo Poll: Americans Still Oppose Obamacare

The Washington Post published a poll today finding that Americans oppose the Obama administration’s health care plan 48% to 45%. But the headline above, is not the headline the Post ran with. Instead they went with this: Public Option Gains Support: Clear Majority Now Backs Plan. This headline is fundamentally misleading. Looking at the poll results over the past six … More

Fact Checking the White House Video: Why Millions of Americans Will Lose Their Private Coverage

The White House’s assertion that you’ll be able to keep your health insurance if you like it is wrong given the incentives built into the House and Senate bills (i.e., employer mandates and creation of a government-run health plan). Companies will find it easier to pay a tax or fine and dump their employees out of their existing private coverage and onto a public plan or other alternatives. And it won’t just be the health insurance options that are limited. Under current legislation, the government would have the authority to … More

Lewin vs Stark: How Many Americans Will End Up on the Public Plan?

Earlier this week, in conjunction with The Lewin Group, we released an analysis of the House health bill showing that if the public plan component became law: Approximately 103 million people would be covered under the new public plan and, as a consequence, about 83.4 million people would lose their private insurance. This would represent a 48.4 percent reduction in the number of people with private coverage. About 88.1 million workers would see their current private, employer-sponsored health plan go away and would be shifted to the public plan. Yearly … More
