Rep. Marsha Blackburn has seen the future of health care in America that the Left wants to implement. Blackburn’s home state of Tennessee implemented TennCare, a Medicaid style program in 1994. The results were predictable. Employers moved employees onto TennCare because the subsidized public plan appeared to cost less. “As a result of this, insurance rates for those who have private coverage were going through the roof,” said Blackburn who spoke at Heritage’s weekly Blogger Briefing today.
Now that Al Franken has been seated in the Senate, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is now telling reporters he sees no need for the left to compromise on their demands for a government-run “public option” health care plan. Proponents of the public plan, like Schumer, believe government-run health care is needed “to keep the insurance companies honest,” because they believe private insurance companies have higher administrative costs than a government-run health care system would. The explanations for why liberals believe this are as numerous as they are erroneous: government is …
Under the government-proposed public health plan, “people will involuntarily lose their coverage and will be bled into the new plan,” said Heritage’s senior policy analyst for health care Nina Owcharenko at yesterday’s Blogger Briefing. “They expect they would have their private insurance plans competing with the public plan but at the end of the day the public plan will be the last one standing,” she said. Following Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) admission yesterday that a public plan option was “a little off to the side of the table”, single payer advocates disrupted Baucus’s Roundtable Discussion on “Expanding Health Care Coverage” this morning. CongressDaily reports: The Senate Finance Committee roundtable discussion on health care had a rough time getting started this morning. As Finance Chairman Max Baucus gaveled the hearing to a start, a man in …
