We Are Safer, But Will Our Gains Last?

On this 8th Anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack, we are without question safer today than we were on that crisp, clear September morning in 2001. With each passing year, the challenge to remain vigilant grows harder as many Americans struggle to make ends meet after losing their jobs, large percentages of their retirement funds, and, in some cases, their homes. The cacophony of noise surrounding America’s debate on health care drowns out the unity of purpose we all felt as the sun set just eight years ago. After … More

Morning Bell: Don’t Let 9/11 Become Just Another Earth Day

Three years ago, Norwell High School social studies teacher Julie Fox commemorated 9/11 by asking her students to write journal entries recounting where they were when the planes hit and how they felt at that moment. But now, Fox tells the Boston Globe, too few students remember the day. So Fox spends class time explaining the basics of what happened on 9/11 and why. “It’s almost like teaching the Civil War,” she said. High School students are not the only ones for whom 9/11 is becoming a distant memory. According … More

Crossing the Rhetorical Line: An Update

Earlier this week, The Heritage Foundation uncovered a disturbing posting on President Barack Obama’s perpetual campaign website, barackobama.com. Under the Organizing for America (OFA) banner, a user of the site had created an event urging fellow Obama supporters to use 9/11 as a day of action for Obamacare. The message urged Americans to call their U.S. Senators and “fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders.” It … More

Obama’s Team Crosses the Rhetorical Line

(Update: The website cited below has been suspended by barackobama.com.  The screenshot to the right is the original page, but the embedded links will no longer work. Click on the picture to the right for a full-screen view.) Many Americans took off work and sacrificed family time this past August to attend congressional town halls, where they voiced opposition to a government-run overhaul of their personal health care choices. They hand painted signs, grabbed their children and drove to their local church or school gymnasium for valuable lessons in community organizing … More

    Video: 9/11 or 4/27?

The video below looks very familiar. We’ve watched that scene a hundred times before. But those running and screaming people were filmed Monday, not  more than seven years years ago on 9/11. As our Morning Bell noted yesterday, a casual flippance marks the tone of the administration’s approach to national security. They act like we do not live in a dangerous world–or perhaps they have forgotten that we do. It’s clear from the video that at least a few New Yorkers in lower Manhattan have not forgotten. The American Spectator magazine … More

Morning Bell: Toward a More Resilient Nation

This evening John McCain and Barack Obama will appear together (but speak separately) as part of a nationally televised forum at Columbia University in Manhattan. The two presidential candidates have promised to set aside politics to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and will instead lay out their personal visions on civic engagement and service. The candidates’ call for unity on this day is admirable, but the chosen topic of the event is also yet another missed opportunity for the American people to hear about how each candidate … More

    The Seventh Anniversary of 9/11

Seven years ago on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, America was changed forever. The peace and calm in New York and Washington, D.C., was shattered by terrorist hijackers. With it came the realization we faced a long war to defeat terrorism and preserve freedom. Heritage’s James Jay Carafano says America is better prepared to deal with the threat of transnational terrorism than it was on 9/11, he explained in a paper marking last year’s anniversary. However, there’s no question the threat still remains. Carafano says these three facts are … More

    Blocking the Truth About 9/11

On the seventh anniversary of 9/11, an important movie tells the story of behind the censorship of “The Path to 9/11.” Written and directed by John Ziegler and produced by David Bossie of Citizens United, “Blocking the Path to 9/11” includes deleted footage from the ABC docudrama and commentary from those involved in the making of the film. Controversy over the docudrama erupted in 2006 after former President Bill Clinton and his liberal surrogates said the “The Path to 9/11″ inaccurately portrayed Clinton-era decisions in the hunt for Osama bin … More
