China’s Public Relations Stunt

Derek Scissors, a research fellow for Asia economic policy, says the world leaders meeting in Washington for the G-20 summit should view China’s stimulus package as an expensive public relations move.

    Card Check Will Cost Jobs

The so-called Employee Free Choice Act, otherwise known as card check, is likely to be among the left’s priorities in the 111th Congress. This new ad from the Employee Freedom Action Committee compares the legislation to a bailout for unions. Not only will it end secret ballot elections, but it will also cost jobs. Morning Bell: Mixed Signals on Missile Defense

President-elect Barack Obama is sending mixed signals on America’s planned missile defense sites in Europe following Russia’s heated rhetoric last week. An Obama adviser said this weekend America’s next commander in chief hadn’t decided if he would continue work on the U.S. missile shield. Although Obama is still months away from taking office, now is not the time to reverse course. This is nothing new from Obama. Throughout the presidential campaign, he shifted his views on missile defense. For instance, a video he recorded for the Priorities Action Fund flatly … More

How Will Election Day Change the Health Care Reform Debate?

National Journal’s health care experts’ blog today asked its contributors how the health care reform debate will change after Americans cast their votes tomorrow. Heritage’s Stuart Butler, vice president for domestic and economic policy studies, weighs in with this answer: It would indeed be wise for all those committed to major health reform to be cautious as they contemplate how to advance their agenda after the election. One lesson congressional Democrats should bear in mind is that ignoring the need for bipartisanship after a triumphant election is likely to doom … More

Setting the Record Straight: Obama’s Misleading Tax Ad

Barack Obama has spent more money on political advertising than any campaign in history. In the case of his 30-second spot, “Try This,” we’d like the Democrat presidential to try honesty instead. The misleading and false ad suggests The Heritage Foundation supports his tax plan. Nothing could be further from the truth. We’ve asked the campaign to pull the ad and have contacted TV stations directly. Now we’ve created our own ad to set the record straight. Heritage Asks TV Stations to Stop Airing Obama’s Misleading Ad

Two days after asking Barack Obama to pull a false and misleading ad citing The Heritage Foundation, the campaign has not yet responded to the request. Heritage’s attorney, Alan P. Dye, today contacted TV stations directly to stop airing the ad. Dye’s letter was sent to TV stations across the country where the Obama ad is running. The ad implies The Heritage Foundation supports Obama’s tax plan even though neither Heritage nor analyst Rea Hederman said what is quoted in the ad. The text of the letter to TV stations … More

    Obama Continues Airing False Ad

Barack Obama’s campaign continues to air a false and inaccurate TV ad that misrepresents the views of The Heritage Foundation. After formally requesting yesterday that the campaign pull its ad touting the candidate’s tax plan, neither Heritage nor our attorney have heard from Obama’s campaign (although a campaign spokesman issued a wholly unsatisfactory response). Heritage policy analyst Rea Hederman, who never said what Obama attributes to him in the ad, maintains that Obama’s campaign is playing fast and loose with the facts in this new video. Heritage Calls on Obama to Pull False Ads

The Heritage Foundation today asked Barack Obama to immediately pull two ads that misrepresent the views of Heritage’s Rea Hederman. The campaign has released a 30-second TV ad with false information and repeats it on the campaign website. The following letter was sent by Heritage lawyer Alan P. Dye to the Obama campaign. Dear Senator Obama: Two recent campaign advertisements seriously misrepresent the views of my client, The Heritage Foundation. They suggest, quite falsely, that The Heritage Foundation and one of its analysts support your tax plan. The print ad … More

Only Independent Commission Can Investigate Financial Mess

If our country is going learn anything from the financial meltdown, there’s only one way to do it. Heritage’s Dave Mason says the Bush administration should appoint an independent commission to aid Congress before it rushes to legislate. Lawmakers simply can’t be trusted.
