• Obamacare

Obamacare was pushed into law with the hope that the more Americans learned about it, the more they would like it. That has not happened. Americans remain strongly opposed to the health law and its expansion of the role of government in their lives. The more they learn about the law, the less they like it and the more they search for an alternative, like Heritage’s Saving the American Dream proposal, that empowers patients, reduces costs, and ensures access.

The Slippery Slope of Health-Care Reform

Writing for the National Review’s blog, The Corner, Heritage’s Mike Franc details at length the evolution of this summer’s health care debate, what works, what doesn’t and who to be afraid of: “Beware the modest proposals of extreme leftists.” Each day brings another twist to the health-care-reform saga. Should the … More

Townhall Downfall: Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va)

Congressman Jim Moran recently demanded to see identification from a constituent at a townhall meeting. Presumably, Moran thought he had caught an astroturf protester from out-of-district. No such luck. Watch: At The Corner, Heritage Senior Legal Fellow Hans von Spakovsky adds: Earlier this week, Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) … More

Imposing Costly Regulation Is Not Real Reform

President Obama and Democrats in Congress want to impose two costly health insurance regulations nationwide. The first is community rating, which prohibits insurers from varying premiums based on an individual’s health status. The second is guaranteed issue, which forces insurers to sell policies to everyone at anytime, even individuals who … More

Fact Checking the White House: $150 Billion To Be Cut From Medicare Advantage

“Nobody is talking about reducing Medicare benefits,” says President Obama…except the lawmakers on Capitol Hill who have proposed to cut roughly $150 billion from the highly popular Medicare Advantage program.  One in five seniors enjoy richer and more varied benefits with Medicare Advantage than those in traditional Medicare. Spending needs … More

The NYT Is Right, Real Choice Should Be Central Goal Of Health Reform

David Leonhardt reports in today’s New York Times: You might think, then, that a central goal of health reform would be to offer people more choice. But it isn’t. Real choice is not part of the bills moving through the Democratic-led Congress; even if the much-debated government-run insurance plan was … More

How Success of Private Fire Departments Undermines Obamacare

As the debate over the “public option” for health care heats up, a new attempt to ridicule those with concerns over government provision of services has taken hold: the group’s sarcastic Facebook tagline is “1 Million Strong Against our SOCIALIST Fire Departments,” and the argument is that public health care … More

Townhall Stand Tall: Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK)

Oklahoma’s lone Democratic Congressman, Dan Boren, opposes any law that leads to a government-run health care system. Moreover, should a health bill pass he pledges to join that plan, even if the plan for federal lawmakers is a better one. For his stance on the health care debate he was … More

Townhall Stand Tall: Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL) Applauded for his Anti-Single Payer Stance

Versions of single payer systems have been tried in Maine and Tennessee already. Results were disastrous. No wonder, then, that the informed citizens at Rep. Bachus’ recent townhall event roared their approval when he said he opposed a single payer system. Watch:

Video: Fact Checking the White House: Medicaid Rations Care

Rather than debate the substance, the White House is in full campaign mode in order to label any opposition to its government-heavy health reform agenda as “misinformation” or “myths you’ve heard.” Case in point: The White House now has a taxpayer-funded Web site to “reality check” credible criticisms and arguments. … More

Fact Checking the White House: Public Plan Will Result in Loss of Private Coverage
