  • With Stimulus Like This, Who Needs A Recession

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a study on Wednesday, that estimates the impact of the Trillion Dollar Spending Plan being debated on the floor of the Senate this evening. They said “In the longer run, the legislation would result in a slight decrease in gross domestic product (GDP) compared with CBO’s baseline economic forecast.” That’s right, as a result of the current plan, the GDP of the United States would actually decrease according to the CBO. They go on to say that in the long run it will lower … More

Solis is the New Daschle Update: Electioneering?

Just like the Senate stimulus bill, the more time we examine President Obama’s Cabinet nominees, the more ‘honest mistakes’ are revealed. Congresswoman Solis is having a particularly bad week. Earlier this afternoon, we told you about USA Today’s revelation that Ms. Solis and her husband were experiencing similar tax problems (i.e. not paying them) that got three of President Obama’s other nominees in trouble. That was literally two hours ago. Earlier this week, we told you about her involvement with the group Americans Right to Work (ARW) which may have … More

The Government Needs A Bigger Garage

Some Americans in their later years may decide to buy a new recreational automobile. Maybe a Corvette, maybe a new Prius. They may even add a third garage to a two-garage house to accommodate their mid-life splurge. If the current Senate Trillion Dollar Debt Plan is enacted, the U.S. Government will need to splurge on a garage big enough to fit 30,000 extra new cars. It sounds like Uncle Sam is having a mid-life crisis. Earlier today, President Obama visited the U.S. Department of Energy, where he made the case … More

Yet Another Reason Solis is the New Daschle

Just when you thought the tax problems for President Obama’s Cabinet nominees were finally over, another one surfaces. USA Today reports today that Labor Nominee Hilda Solis’ husband settled over $6,000 in tax liens yesterday. Tax liens that were 16 years old. As a result, today’s hearing of the Senate Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has been postponed to give Senators the time to review yet another tax problem. Congresswoman Solis’ supporters, including the White House, are likely to say that this ‘honest mistake’ was her husband’s and not hers, … More

In Their Own Words: President Obama on the Stimulus

Yesterday, President Barack Obama was interviewed by several cable and network news outlets on matters ranging from Tom Daschle to the Trillion Dollar Spending Bill. Below are some excerpts of what he said in those interviews, and why President Obama needs to visit readthestimulus.org as soon as possible, so he can learn why this Trillion Dollars would buy America nothing but debt. “Now, keep in mind that our intention has always been that, in addition to this recovery and reinvestment package, that we’re also going to have a housing bill, … More

Hilda Solis: The Next Tom Daschle?

President Obama’s choice to lead the Department of Health and Human Services stepped down today after it was discovered that he had failed to pay over $140,000 in taxes and amid allegations that he was too closely connected with health care lobbyists that would have had all-too-easy access to him as Secretary. This was the right thing to do, for the country, and for the President. We now fear that President Obama’s nominee for Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis, may soon have to make the same tough choice on his behalf. … More

    Smart Stimulus 101

The American Option Introduced by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC), the American Option Act proposes to aggressively and immediately lower taxes on businesses and individuals. Consumer and government interest rates would be 5-10% lower making it easier for businesses to borrow and families to buy a home or refinance a mortgage. Smart Stimulus creates business investment of $254 billion in new buildings, equipment and infrastructure. Smart … More

A Tale of Two Tax-Paying Americas

Today, the White House called Tom Daschle’s failure to pay more than $100,000 in back taxes a “serious mistake”, but reiterated their support for their nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Last week, White House Press Secretary Secretary Robert Gibbs also pointed out that Treasury Secretary Geithner made honest mistakes on his taxes, that “should have been avoided”. Those mistakes amounted to over $34,000. Out of little over a dozen cabinet nominations, President Obama was able to find two people who found IRS compliance optional. This … More
