• Heritage in Honduras: Voters Speak Loud and Clear

Heritage’s Izzy Ortega issues his final report on yesterday’s election from Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. More than 60% of all eligible voters made their voices heard loud and clear in electing former congressman Porfirio “Pepe” Lobo. A Bolivian member of parliament was also observing the election and nicely summed things up: “They tried to build a Berlin Wall and Honduras tore it down.”

Video: Obamacare is Not a Good Fit for Women

First Lady Michelle Obama’s video on health care reform raises important issues about female patients who are falling through the cracks of the U.S. health care system. It’s not a perfect system, but Nina Owcharenko explains that ObamaCare would take women and the rest of the country in the wrong direction. Having to depend on politicians or faceless bureaucrats to make decisions about their care doesn’t empower women or improve their health care situations. Plus, the Obama health reform agenda isn’t what women want. A majority of female respondents … More

In the Green Room: Jeff Kemp on How Free Enterprise and Strong Families Fix Social Problems

In his roles as U.S. Congressman, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and passionate proponent of the free market, Kemp’s efforts highlighted the powerful combination of great ideas joined with the good works of neighborhood leaders. We Still Hold These Truths: The Progressive Assault on America

This is the second of a four part series. Matthew Spalding’s new book, We Still Hold These Truths, examines the timeless principles and practical wisdom that have been the source of America’s monumental success. In this video segment Spalding discusses the progressive assault on the Founders’ principles that began more than a century ago and that continues—indeed, is accelerating—in our time. Modern political leaders and cultural elites have all too readily abandoned the principles to which America is dedicated; even more troubling is how readily we all let it happen. Progressivism … More

In the Green Room: Michael Barone & Ramesh Ponnuru on the Rising Tide of Conservatism

For Michael Barone and Ramesh Ponnuru, conservative principles remain empirically true despite elections. The growing revolt against tired tax-and-spend policies embodied in the Tea Party movement and recent electoral wins for conservative candidates seem to indicate Americans are remembering their conservative heritage, the one that understands the growth of government inherently restricts personal freedoms. “I’d say conservatism is in the early stages of what could be a robust recovery,” said Ponnuru, a National Review senior editor. “I think there remain some very strong conservative impulses on the part of the … More

Health Care Hoops Video: A Flagrant Foul Committed By the Public Option

In the Green Room: Utah’s Gov. Herbert on DC ‘Freezing Out the States’ Over Health Reform

It’s simple: “Our approach in Utah is to give consumers more choice,” said Governor Herbert during a Heritage Foundation visit earlier this week. “If we can put them in the control position where they’re spending dollars that are their own, they’re going to make better choices.” Similarly, the Governor believes that States, not the federal government will be better at fixing what ails America’s health care system. “It really ought to be the states leading on health care reform,” he said. In fact, “states want to be partners” with … More

We Still Hold These Truths: Rediscovering America’s Founding

This is the first of a five part series. In the midst of frenzied efforts to remake our nation—of endless government initiatives involved in virtually every aspect of our daily lives—Americans are increasingly concerned: How did we get so far off track? And how can we get America back on course?
