When Eleanor Roosevelt received a letter from Mattye Whyte Woodridge, an Arkansas teacher, requesting an official day to honor educators across the nation, she convinced the 81st Congress to proclaim the first National Teacher Day in 1953.

This year Teacher Appreciation Day is May 6, and the nation is encouraged to celebrate America’s favorite teachers all week.

To join in the celebration, we want to hear about your favorite teachers. Why did they touch your life? Who made a difference in your education?

Tell us in the comments below, add your photos, and share this graphic to thank educators everywhere.
