“Our biggest national security crisis is Barack Obama,” John Bolton, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Thursday.
Bolton slammed “the resurgence of isolationism” and said that President Obama, “who considers our strength part of the problem,” trusts in the ideals of Woodrow Wilson-ian multilateralism rather than American exceptionalism.
Bolton highlighted the Benghazi attack as a failure in leadership, calling the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens “the murder of the president’s personal representative in Libya,” the death of whom “the president has done nothing to avenge.”
“Under Barack Obama,” Bolton said, “you can murder his personal representative and get away scot free.”
Encouraging a return to “Reaganite foreign policy,” Bolton argued that the U.S. is losing its “margin of safety” because of the administration’s move to curtail the nation’s defense capabilities through budget cuts.
According to The Heritage Foundation’s Michaela Dodge, Obama’s “fiscal year 2015 defense budget demonstrates the administration’s willingness to sacrifice America’s leadership while the world grows more dangerous,” namely “in order to preserve and even expand unsustainable levels of entitlement spending.”
“Ignoring threats to our national security is the Obama doctrine,” Bolton said.
