Ken McIntyre, who spent 25 years reporting and editing international, national and local news before arriving at The Heritage Foundation, is returning to his journalistic roots as news director of The Foundry.

In this newly created role, McIntyre will serve as The Foundry’s lead editor on news content, working with the team of writers to plan, develop, and execute high-impact enterprise reporting.

McIntyre was a mainstay at The Washington Times for 17 years, including award-winning stints as assistant managing editor for special projects, metropolitan editor and features editor in which he was a key member of the news management and Page One team. Previously, he reported and edited for the Montgomery Journal and Gazette newspapers in Montgomery County, Md. He also was editor and chief editorial writer of the Montgomery County Sentinel.

“Given Ken’s strong journalism background, we’re excited to welcome him to the team to help us establish The Foundry as a credible source for news about public policy issues,” said Rob Bluey, editor in chief of The Foundry and Heritage’s director of digital media. “He’ll be a major asset as we prepare to relaunch later this year.”

For the past seven years, McIntyre served as special projects editor in Heritage’s Strategic Communications department, where he helped develop use of video and information graphics and wrote and edited both factual presentations and commentary on a range of policy fronts, among them  poverty and welfare, income mobility, health care, religious liberty, marriage and family, education, homeland security and immigration reform. He will continue as the Marilyn and Fred Guardabassi Fellow in Media and Public Policy Studies, occasionally weighing in on media trends especially where they intersect with policy.
