Senator Rand Paul decried the Obama administration today when speaking about economic freedom.

“For a pro-choice party, this is the most anti-choice administration we’ve seen in a lifetime,” Kentucky GOP senator Paul says.

Paul spoke at an event today launching The Wall Street Journal and Heritage Foundation’s 2014 Index of Economic Freedom.

According to the Index, since President Obama entered the Oval Office in 2008, economic freedom has declined in the U.S. every year. Ranked 6th in 2008, the country has now dropped out of the top 10 free countries and ranks 12th in 2014, considered “mostly free.”

“The USA is the only country to be rated less economically free for seven consecutive years,” Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint said. DeMint attributes the decline on the Obama administration’s economic mismanagement.

Paul specifically mentioned the size of government under President Obama, citing Obamacare and 200 other regulations largely written by unelected bureaucrats.

“Economic freedom is proportionate to size of government and it just keeps growing,” he said.

The joint publication has tracked the progress of economic freedom around the globe for 20 years and covers 186 economies. The Index grades each country in 10 areas of economic freedom and the U.S. ranks the worst in government spending.
