  • Would Martin Luther King, Jr., Approve of Obamacare?

Would Martin Luther King, Jr. approve of Obamacare? President Obama says he would.

“I think he understood that health care, health security is not a privilege, it’s something that in a country as wealthy as ours, everybody should have access to,” Obama said in an radio interview with the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” just a day before the anniversary of the date King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

But that gives Obamacare far too much credit, according to Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint.

“It’s hard to imagine that something that’s going to be so harmful to America would be associated with the civil rights movement,” DeMint told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren last night. “To wrap it in a package of civil rights is certainly not a fair representation of this. I think civil rights involves a freedom and equality, and Americans have a right to own their own health plan and not to be dependent on a government and bureaucracy to say what kind of health care they’re going to get.”
