The House’s bipartisan rejection of the near trillion dollar “farm” bill demonstrates that Congress is beginning to listen to Americans. Voters and taxpayers have said they’ve seen enough wasteful, reckless spending come out of Washington. Today’s win should be considered a victory for taxpayers and a reaffirmation of fiscal responsibility.

The bill was not only bloated with programs to reward special interests, it would have also locked in President Obama’s massive expansion of spending on food stamps.   But like all things in Washington, today’s victory is a temporary one.

Congress now has the opportunity to refocus its efforts on real reforms to our nation’s antiquated farm policy and food stamp program.  But the possibility of real reform won’t happen until Congress separates food stamps from farm policy.
