The Way Ahead for Conservatives

Turning points matter, but not nearly as much as the direction one takes after reaching a turning point.
So: In the aftermath of the 2012 election, where does the country go from here? That’s up to politicians to determine, of course. But in our democratic republic, “We, the people” must also make our views heard.
The first step is to understand exactly what happened last year. In a new book, After Hope and Change: The 2012 Elections and American Politics, James W. Ceaser and his co-authors review 2012. They explain what’s changed and what’s remained the same. They also detail what the implications are for American politics.
That’s where conservatives should make their voices heard. Our nation’s future isn’t etched in stone; it’s written in sand. We can compel our political leaders to move in a better direction.
It begins with a conversation, and that conversation starts at The Heritage Foundation on May 1. Ceaser will discuss his book with political policy experts Henry Olsen of the American Enterprise Institute and Michael Franc of Heritage.
Ceaser has written the first draft of history. Where we go from here is up to us.
