House Cloakroom

Analysis: The House has a light week planned. The only notable legislation on the floor will be a bill to prevent a planned pay increase for federal employees for this year.

Major Floor Action:

  • HR 273 [1] – To eliminate the 2013 statutory pay adjustment for federal employees

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Financial Services [2] Committee will hold a hearing on the “FHA Financial Situation.”
  • The House Armed Services [3] Committee will hold a hearing on the “Impact of Sequestration on Defense.”
  • The House Transportation and Infrastructure [4] Committee will hold a hearing on the “Federal Role in Infrastructure.”
  • The House Energy and Commerce [5] Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on the “Medicare Physician Payment System.”

Senate Cloakroom

Analysis: This week, the Senate will continue its consideration of the Violence Against Women Act. Heritage has expressed deep concerns [6] about the reauthorization of this law with respect to the efficacy of the numerous grant programs and expansion of American Indian tribal court jurisdiction.

Major Floor Action:

  • S 47 [7] – Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act

Major Committee Action:

  • The Senate Energy and Natural Resources [8] Committee will hold a hearing on “Natural Gas Issues.”
  • The Senate Judiciary [9] Committee will hold a hearing on “Immigration Revision.”
  • The Senate Finance [10] Committee will hold a hearing on the nomination of Jack Lew to the Office of Secretary of the Treasury.
  • The Senate Finance [10] Committee will hold a hearing on “Health Insurance Exchanges.”
  • The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs [11] Committee will hold a hearing on the “Implementation of Financial System Overhaul.”
