Today at 10 a.m. the House Armed Services Committee will host a hearing on the evolving instability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the implications for national security.
Heritage’s Jim Carafano, Ph.D., vice president for foreign and defense policy studies, will provide testimony on the Obama administration’s need to rethink the United States’ support for the U.N. peacekeeping mission to the DRC, known as MONUSCO, and focus on an African-led mission involving key regional stakeholders.
Other witnesses will include members of the Obama administration, actor Ben Affleck, representing the Eastern Congo Initiative, and Jendayi Frazer, Ph.D., former U.S. assistant secretary for African affairs.
