  • Government Unions Go All Out for the President

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has spent more than any other outside group to re-elect President Obama. The union has spent $74 million to return Obama to the Oval Office, exceeding President Obama’s own super PAC spending by a third.

Other unions are also going all out for the President. Lee Saunders, the recently elected president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), told union delegates that they “must work our hearts out to re-elect President Obama.” And they have. AFSCME has spent about $100 million to elect liberal candidates at the federal, state, and local levels. Over a fifth of those funds have gone to help the President.

Why have these unions spent so much to re-elect the President? They represent government employees. Most union members now work in government. Government unions have a direct interest in bigger government. Higher taxes and more spending means more money for their members.

President Obama has campaigned for tax increases and fought congressional efforts to cut spending. Given these platforms, it is no surprise that government unions lined up behind the President. As Saunders put it, “We’re going to work like h*** for his campaign.”

Higher taxes and bigger government hurt the private sector. Excessive regulation and taxes make running a business more costly. As the number of federal regulatory jobs has soared, employment growth at start-up companies has hit record lows.

Bigger and more expensive government serves the interest of government unions; it does not serve the public good.

    1. Lloyd Scallan says:

Don’t blame the unions. The unions did what they are paid to do. Too much blame is directed to the wrong cause of Obama’s reelection. The blame should be directed to the Republican Party that shoved a Northeast liberal RINO down the throats of the American people because the GOP decided it was Mitt’s time.

      • Dean says:

Can't find anything to argue with in your comment Lloyd. A sad day indeed.

      • Steve says:

Don't blame the unions???? OK. Socialists are no longer the problem? Of course we should blame the unions. By definition, they are a big part of the problem. A socialist is a socialist is a socialist! Socialism is the problem and that is what unions promote. Until we start fighting back on the class warfare we are going to get a beat down every time. We need to start taking our frustration out on the people who vote socialism on us. That means, not buying union made goods, not supporting leftist companies, unions, newpapers, broadcast networks, etc. We have to take their source of power away…our money. Until we fight back, we will lose. We cannot continue to be nice to the people who vote this nonsense on us. Stop contributing to charities, stop hiring any liberals, defeat unions and keep as much of your money in your pocket as you can. Let the government use the money they already took from us to take care of the poor and do everything you can to not give them anymore money. Margaret Thatcher said "socialism is great until you run out of somebody elses money". We have to starve socialism. We cannot outvote the "something for nothing crowd".

    2. Bobbie says:

Whoever takes part in the fleecing and take down of America is guilty! Paid government unions one of many! Who would've thunk people would take such advantage of America then turn their backs on her civil principles by devaluing her morals and dignity??!

"It's what Americans want" according to the supreme Harry and the head puppeteer!! Fakes, phonies and frauds! I don't like the disrespect of people telling me what I want when I don't have a say in it and I haven't heard one American say they want deception, cheats and thievery governing them! Stop fighting principle, Harry reid! That's where all his fighting is! His governing and lack thereof dumped these needless challenges on this country! He won't handle his job without controversy because of his frail persona and fear of union thugs. He doesn't respect America enough to have a budget by law and like a juvenile, tries to hide the facts!
Sadly demented like the rest of the government folks who chose dementia over common sense and honor.

    3. R Benson says:

So you think that if the Republican nominee would have been more conservative, then that candidate would have convinced more voters, that chose to vote for the far more liberal Obama, to vote for a candidate even more conservative than Romney?…… Why?……If they choose Obama over Romney they are even less likely to vote for a more conservative alternative. I am not happy about four more years of hell either, but unfortunately we can not get someone more conservative than Romney elected. The press being so blatantly in the tank for the left does not help.

    4. Rusty says:

Republicans are not standing up for the fights over policy and illegal activities of this administration.
