  • Calls for Renewed Commitment to Religious Liberty after Obamacare Mandate Implementation

Today marks the beginning of implementation of the anti-conscience mandate, and with it come calls for continued vigilance to demand greater protection of religious liberty.

“On this day, let us renew our determination to reverse the mandate,” House Speaker John Boehner (R–OH) said in a statement released this morning.

“The administration’s mandate stands today not because it is sound policy; not because it reflects the will of the people; not because it is consistent with the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution,” Speaker Boehner continued. “[I]t stands because the President of the United States has refused to listen to the people and institutions that built a great nation.”

Indeed, the mandate has drawn widespread and sustained outcry from Americans loudly and clearly demanding greater protection of our “first freedom.” Yet despite legal action, national protests, and public comment on rulemakings, the Obama Administration has remained indifferent to Americans’ legitimate outrage over the government’s coercive trampling of a First Amendment freedom.

The threat to religious freedom posed by the mandate is serious. Obamacare’s anti-conscience mandate displays the Administration’s offensively constricted view of faith in public life, affording the narrowest religious exemption in federal law that effectively only applies to formal houses of worship. Schools, soup kitchens, health clinics, and countless other “Good Samaritan” groups are left completely unprotected by the exemption simply because they serve vulnerable individuals without regard to their creeds or backgrounds.

Many organizations are left with an untenable choice under the mandate: violate their deeply held beliefs or forego providing health insurance and risk the penalty of hefty fines.

Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R–NE) commented on the Administration’s assault on religious liberty today, stating that the mandate “represents unprecedented government coercion in health care. No American should be forced to choose between their faith and their job. That’s a false choice. That’s un-American. It violates the fundamental principle of religious freedom, individual liberty, and the rights of conscience so much a part of the history of this country.”

Because of this impossible decision, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty announced today that it has requested a preliminary injunction against the HHS mandate on behalf of its client, Wheaton College, a leading evangelical institution. The school, which is seeking emergency relief from the mandate by September 30, is one of nearly 60 organizations that have joined more than 20 lawsuits against the HHS mandate. Those lawsuits seek from U.S. courts the protection of a constitutional freedom that the Obama Administration refuses to afford.

    As Speaker Boehner stated today:

[W]hether the administration’s attack on religious freedom is reversed through judicial action, legislative action or other means, it must be reversed.… The freedoms that define us as a nation have stood the test of time—and they can outlast any form of tyranny, as long as the American people, who hold the true power in this country, remain committed to them.

The solution is clear: rescind the mandate and repeal Obamacare in its entirety. Americans deserve better than the one-size-fits-all health care of the Obama Administration. We can reform America’s health care to decrease costs, increase access, and put personal health care decisions where they belong: in the hands of the American people.

It must be reversed! This is a total unAmerican government intrusion without constitution regardless of it deemed taxation it's still without representation! We aren't looking for civil unrest but we are looking for people proud of this country and what made her successful through the individualism of her American people, people who respect all her people free and able to handle their own with the human respect not to violate to legislate inalienable rights but honoring their duty to protect them. We're looking for people running America's government who say what they mean and mean what they say. Who's diligence is their conviction to stop this siege and turn this country back to her founding that built her strength from rags to riches more times than not and can again without the intrusion of government over taxation and false representation. WE need the forthright strength of people who can clear this obstacle from America's way, take this government down and replace it with non discriminative American principle!! Obamacare encourages bad mojo in this civil country of the world's people. Take watch EVERYONE!

Our Founders & people who followed them escaped England, Ireland, all of Europe and countries too many to mention to come to this wonderful country & be able to practice their faith in freedom. Its the lst Amendmnet. Thank you Bobblie for your words, this imposition is unimaginable. People were shot and imprisoned for less than this. What has happended that we have come to this point.? We will reap what we sow no doubt.

There is an old Irish Song, The Fields of Athenry, about a man who stole some corn to feed his family, for that he was sent on the prison-ship to Australia. We are heading to that horrible kind of existence if we allow this Administration with the evil that has infiltrated it , to continue to hold the hammer over us.

The Great Experiment of Redistribution of Wealth has been tried time and time over and over again & never has worked. Just look at Europe, falling into the oceans around it.

God Bless the people who are standing up for what their beliefs are and may they not fail or we ALL will..

PLEASE call your reps., and be critical — we are not experiencing politics as usual — the debate is not Democrat vs. Republican — the debate is capitalism/private enterprise vs. socialism/marxism/totalitarian control.

Au contraire, says Sebelius — businesses are actually looking forward to being forced into paying more overhead:…If ObamaCare interferes with that process, it won’t be to reduce the prices for the smaller business; it will be to raise prices for the larger businesses — or more likely, just raise them for everyone.  That’s exactly what happened in Massachusetts and Maine when business and personal mandates got imposed.  The $750 per worker per year fine will look a lot tastier to smaller businesses, especially when the federal government will end up subsidizing employee insurance anyway.  Given that the average single-person policy runs over $3200 per year here in Minnesota, why wouldn’t businesses shrug off the health-insurance costs and just give everyone a $1000 per year raise instead?  They would still be more than a thousand dollars ahead of the game at current prices, let alone what will happen to prices after ObamaCare comes fully into force…”

      - The Liberator Online for everyone who loves liberty published by the Advocates for Self-Government – Good News, Bad News, Unbelievable Independence Day Poll Shocker News July 13, 2010 – "On July 4th we celebrate Independence Day. From which country did the United States win its independence?" A poll conducted in June by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, and released just before Independence Day, asked a representative sampling of American adults that question. Everybody knows the answer, right? It was… um, France. No, China. Uh… Mexico, maybe? Believe it or not, an incredible 26% of those surveyed didn't know the correct answer: Great Britain. Of that 26%, 6% gave it a try, incorrectly naming various countries including those mentioned above. The remaining 20% were "unsure."… The tax assault begins January 1, 2011, when a wide variety of tax relief measures are set to expire, and when new taxes from the Democratic health care plan will take effect…Unless stopped, the tax explosion will come in what ATR has identified as three "waves." 1) The First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief In 2001 and 2003, Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011. * Personal income tax rates will rise. The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise:
      - The 25% bracket rises to 28%
      - The 28% bracket rises to 31%
      - The 33% bracket rises to 36%
      - The 35% bracket rises to 39.6% * Higher taxes on marriage and family: The "marriage penalty" (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return. The child tax credit will be cut in half. Other tax burdens for families will also kick in. * The return of the death tax: The families of those dying on or after January 1, 2011 will face a 55 percent top death tax rate on estates over $1 million. * Higher tax rates on savers and investors: The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011. The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011. 2) The Second Wave: Obamacare Taxes ATR has identified over twenty new or higher taxes in the recently-passed Democratic health care bill. Several go into effect on January 1, 2011. 3) The Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes * In 2011 the Alternative Minimum Tax, which affected 4 million families last year, will hit over 28 million families. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. * Tax increases on business: "Literally scores" of tax hikes on business are scheduled, ATR says. * Tax benefits for education and teaching reduced: This includes deductions and tax credits affecting tuition, fees, interest on student loans, teacher classroom expenses, employer-provided educational assistance and other educational matters. That's a sampling. ATR has more detail on all of this at in their bulletin "Six Months to Go Until The Largest Tax Hikes in History," at the link earlier in this article”

    4. Lloyd Scallan says:

This latest Obama's mandate is not about "religion". It's about freedoms. It's about Obama, and the left's, determination to control every aspect of our lives. They know if government can control the way Americans choose to practic, or not practic, their religious believes, that one less freedom gone. Just as ObamaCare is not about health care but about controling the masses, it's about adopting to less and less freedoms so when the time comes, the American people will be so weakened from the battle, they will not put up much of a fight.

    5. Leon Lundquist says:

For years I have been calling Obamacare "Soft Mass Murder" but I admit I am Extreme. Consider engineering a Doctor Shortage? Consider making Healthcare so UNaffordable people can't get it? Consider mandating treatments that are factually more dangerous, more likely to cause sterility, more likely to cause Suicide? These would be crimes against humanity. That's what I see coming. The intentional destruction of what was the greatest healthcare system in the World? Evil. So, these days common sense is "extreme?"

    6. Linda says:

Mr. Boehner…all spending starts in the House. STOP OBAMACARE BY DEFUNDING EVERY ASPECT OF IT. Our religious freedoms are our most important. Obamacare will eliminate those freedoms. After that, our second amendment rights will be given away to the MOST corrupt organization in the entire world…the United Nations. We will be a nation of handouts and we will be weakened beyond comprehension. This is the president's plan. He says it in his book, he says it every day…please stop this insanity.
