  • Food Stamps: Getting Help from Mexico to Increase Government Dependency

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) just pulled the plug on its controversial outreach program to promote food stamps with “telenovelas” (soap operas), but that’s not the end of its courting of Spanish speakers.

As the Daily Caller reports, the USDA and the Mexican government have been working together “to increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps.”

According to the report, the USDA has been partnering with the Mexican government since 2004 to ensure “that the Mexican Embassy and Mexican consulates in the U.S. provide USDA nutrition assistance program information to Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals working in America and migrant communities.”

Rather than looking for ways to effectively eliminate poverty for those on both sides of the border, the USDA’s partnership with the Mexican government encourages dependence. But government dependence seems to be the goal of the Obama Administration.

We already know that having one in seven Americans on food stamps doesn’t seem to be enough for the Obama Administration. Not only has food stamp spending doubled since Obama came to office, but total welfare spending on the now nearly 80 federal welfare programs has jumped by more than 30 percent. Most egregiously, as of last Thursday the Department of Health and Human Services issued a directive to gut the successful welfare reform act of 1996 of its work requirements.

If the Obama Administration is serious about reducing poverty, it would not be spending precious resources to promote government dependence. If they were serious about reducing and eliminating poverty, rather than abolishing work requirements, their policies would embrace the principles of work and personal responsibility, upon which the successful 1996 welfare reforms were established.

Spending on welfare programs continues its upward climb. It is crucial that the U.S. reverse course. Instead of encouraging Americans to get onto the government dole, policies should promote self-reliance.

Hispanic children now make up the largest group of children living in poverty. The best way to help these families, and all Americans in need, is not with a handout but by encouraging independence through work.

People are better than what this government wants them to believe in themselves. The disrespects of unconstitutional government racially profiles for favor through subliminal degradation behind the backs and in the faces of those obligated to pay while unconstitutional government bias intentionally provokes resentment and when the controls of government have brought America to such a financial crisis in the present is dangerous and radical behavior!

How can anyone see any good in a person who has to manipulate minds and bribe for votes no matter the sacrifice he puts on Americans, all for his own conceit!??

‎2004 wasn't obama, friends…let's put this axe where the root is…George W. Bush (2001-2009)!!! it would be during the obama administration in which the axe got laid…truth is truth…

      • Bobbie says:

What are you talking about? There are barely qualifications to get nurtured off the government teat under Obama and his expense is forcing some people to sacrifice their independence. Obama "changed" nothing and doesn't promote personal dignity! Truth is truth, accept it ALL!

    3. ISREAL ORTEGA IS SHARING WITH US, ANOTHER PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL MESS WE ARE BEING FORCED INTO BY THE BARACK OBAMA ADMINISTRATION! IT IS AN OPPOSITE OF WHAT AMERICA STANDS FOR! THE DEM-MOMO-CRATS ARE BUILDING THEIR BASE OF DEPENDENCY VOTERS WITH PROGRAMS LIKE THIS ONE! THE DEM-MOMO-CRATS ARE TELLING PEOPLE: YOU CAN'T DO IT ON YOUR OWN: HOLD A JOB, TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY, PARTICIPATE IN EVERYDAY SOCIETY WITHOUT GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS! HOGWASH! (INSINCERE TALK, WRITING, PROPOGANDA!). WALLYWORKSWELL@YAHOO.COM

    4. Linda Young says:

Where has the pride of being a self-reliant, hardworking individual gone??? I try instilling these crucial values in our children and fight the deluge of "friends" that are on welfare and find it more rewarding than work and independence.

    5. Steve Mavica says:

This is INSANE… We provide government assistance through food stamps to a group of people who come into the United States to work and then who take that money out of our country and back to their homeland. HOW is this helping the United States??? How is providing government assistance to foreigners helping better our own country??? Why are our tax dollars being spend to aid foreigners??? Does "fairness" now include the general public of neighboring countries??? This program needs to be terminated immediately.

      • Joanne BLACKHURST says:

…..and teachers in public schools where many times over half the
students are on free lunches, also meaning their family is on food stamps, the teachers have to alter their lesson plans as to not actually bring to mind students' awareness that they are from
        families who aren't self-reliant,
especially when teaching certain parts of history.

    6. Demi says:

Interesting. Of course, this fails to mention the work programs that all Able Bodied Adults Without Children have to register for, and the fact you have to have legal residence in the US to qualify. It’s not totally bad or totally good, but it’s better than knowing children are starving.

      • Woody Pfister says:

What is your point? Non working illegals with anchor babies don't have to work to get food stamps???

    7. Michael R. Wimberly says:

Like the livable forest messing with key elements of our economic engine can interrupt its health and its survive ability.

    8. Lloyd Scallan says:

It's all part of Obama's grand plan to collapse our economy. The more of our tax dollars Obama can spend, the faster our nation will be in the poor house.

      • Carol, AZ says:

"Getting help from MX" means helping MX redistribute their poor that make up the majority of the country.
It's the Kings new re-engineering for," Hope and change."
Yes, he has with steadfast objection, done exactly what you've stated. But how many here have or will knowledge that? Withheld from you there is another new age money-maker coming from South of our border. Recently located in just one mass grave were the bodies of four missing children snatched off the street while walking to school.
It was reported that their vital organs had been harvested.
