In 2007, I began research in order to discover why so few people had answered an classified ad for a manual labor job. What I discovered was shocking – jobs offering minimum wage were far below the benefits offered by government assistance. I wrote an article for my blog and newspaper column "Why It Matters". The article, entitled “The Misconception of Minimum Wage” was again published in 2009 in the book, “Welfare” by Gale Publishing, which is a series of opinions about various topics that have an impact on welfare. My piece is stands to contrast an OpEd by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. If you would like to read the piece, go to: http://prilspen.wordpress.com/2007/02/03/the-misc
