Cloakroom: Full Repeal Edition

House Cloakroom: July 9 – July 13

Analysis: This week the House will take up full repeal of Obamacare. The Supreme Court allowed the law to stand, placing the responsibility on Congress to repeal this massive government takeover of the health care system. The full repeal vote will take place on Wednesday, July 11. The past two years have demonstrated this law to be a disaster [1]. From mandates that violate religious freedom [2] to onerous taxes [3], Obamacare is wrong for the country. This Wednesday, the House will once again attempt to stop this law.

Major Floor Action:

  • HR __ [4] – Repeal of Obamacare Act

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Oversight and Government Reform [5] Committee will hold a hearing on the “Affordable Care Act: Impact on Job Creators and the Economy.”
  • The House Agriculture [6] Committee will mark up the 2012 Farm Bill.
  • The House Oversight and Government Reform [5] Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs will hold a hearing on “Oversight of Auto Industry and Delphi Pension Financial Aid.”
  • The House Judiciary [7] Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security will hold a hearing on “National Security Leaks.”
  • The House Financial Services [8] Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises will hold a hearing on the “Impact of Dodd-Frank Act: Mortgage Banking.”

Senate Cloakroom: July 9 – July 13

Analysis: This week the Senate is set to move to the Increased Payroll Tax Credit and Bonus Depreciation Bill. They will vote to move to this bill on Tuesday afternoon, but there is potential that Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) could bring up other legislation that is not yet announced.

  • S 2237 [9] – Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act

Major Committee Action:

  • The Senate Finance [10] Committee will hold a hearing on “Boosting Job Opportunities through Tax Overhaul.”
  • The Senate Finance [10] Committee will hold a hearing on “Medicare Physician Payments.”
  • The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs [11] Committee will hold a hearing on “The Future of Homeland Security.”
