  • Progressive Privilege: Divide and Conquer by Race

    The United States today may be the most color-blind society in history. We’re a country that is led by a black President and has legal guarantees of equal rights for all. Racist groups are almost non-existent and are more likely to invite ridicule than attract recruits. Yet many who ought to celebrate our successes are instead striving to re-divide us along racial lines. Consider the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s new campaign to expose so-called “white privilege.”

    The “Un-Fair” campaign aims to establish an “evolved community free of individual, systemic and institutionalized racism” by challenging “the white monoculture and its systems and institutions, and the privileges it creates for whites.”

    In a campaign video, defaced “white” persons offer apologetic testimonials for the color of their skin. The campaign seeks to institutionalize its own kind of racism by dividing America into “colored” and “white,” while advancing the absurd claim that all white people enjoy “privileges that are unearned just because of the color of their skin.”

    The Duluth campaign enjoys the support of the NAACP, the Lutheran Social Service, and the League of Women Voters. It’s part of a larger, national Progressive movement against “white privilege” that promotes socially engineered equality of outcomes—i.e. more statist solutions.

    The campaign features Tim Wise, a race-fixated author and activist who advocates fundamentally reordering American society and replacing U.S. institutions of government.

    Wise’s philosophy, explained in his book, is radically dangerous to our constitutional order and is gaining in momentum, media savvy, and political utility. At root, it is about rejecting the American founding. The flawed principles that define this movement are also, ironically, squarely at odds with the best of the civil rights movement of the last two centuries.

    Whereas Wise draws inspiration from yesteryear’s black nationalists, such as Martin Delaney, who advocated for racially oriented government, the more principled and ultimately more successful model is Frederick Douglass.

    Far from seeking to destroy America’s constitutional order, Douglass reminded Americans of their founding in 1852: “Your fathers, the fathers of this republic, did, most deliberately…and with a sublime faith in the great principles of justice and freedom, lay deep the corner-stone of the national superstructure, which has risen and still rises in grandeur around you.”

    Douglass’s principled understanding was reflected in Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous 1963 speech: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” This dream echoes America’s founding principles, as King recognized:

    When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

    But Wise and the organizers of the “Un-Fair” campaign would dismantle our constitutional republic and its rule of law in favor of their murky vision of absolutist equality of stations. They insist that America is deeply racist and thereby engender a sense of alienation among those who, as David Azerrad puts it, “most need to believe in the American Dream to improve their lot. Indeed, it is very difficult to see how the upward-looking labor required to lift blacks out of endemic urban poverty is to be sustained if those most in need of help have accepted the idea that America has no place for them.”

    For Progressive groups today, character is only skin-deep, and one’s standing in society is merely the result of race or other arbitrary or non-legal distinctions. According to the Declaration, however, “human” is the only relevant category. America is at its best and justice is most likely when its inhabitants are known, from the government’s perspective, as individual citizens equal under the law.

    Modern day race-baiters are dividing Americans so that they can remake the United States according to their own ideology. Their efforts should be rebuffed at every occasion. We as Americans have come too far to give in now to a race-based philosophy of government.

      Get rid of the Congressional Black Caucus. There's no Congressional White Caucus. Why? Because the liberals
      would see it as racist. Let's call the Congressional Black Caucus what it is: A racist organization.

        there is an amazing amount of truth to this. Why are whites, who built and finance this country, not allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labor. It is not the role of government to deny the product of the labor of free men.

        whites do not have an obligation to give up their soverignty and their culture to outside ideas of morality and ethics. Ironically, only the "others" have the say now on moral authority, not us. This has to stop. I am sick of being told that I am not allowed to love my fellow white Americans, it's sick if you ask me.

        Yeah, I do discriminate, and I really don't care anymore if you think that is right or not. I don't have to accept your views as correct. You want to to starve me? deny me emplyment or chastise me for my views? fine, go ahead. I don't care anymore. We have so completly let go from defending the honor of our founders that there really is little reason to live anymore anyways.

      It's time for Lutherans to decide whether they are people of principle or separatist-apologists.

      When I was young, we celebrated the words of Martin Luther King, Junior: "[...] they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Now our Church joins the other race-baiters with their high-handed rhetoric about making everyone more equal. Everyone except the Marxist philosopher pigs responsible for training the little-people to be colorblind.

      I enjoyed the good fortune to grow up in a Missouri Synod church school and never saw color. Now the hypocrites tell me what I learned at their knee was a lie?

      Many good people devoted their lives, some making the ultimate sacrifice, to erase the distinction of color. Now my Church, my spiritual leaders, choose to stand with those who would drive that wedge further into our national consciousness. Perpetuate victim mentality; you can enjoy clamping one more shackle around the leg of your beneficiaries.

      How low will people bring themselves to go? Privilege only comes in skin color by those that want to see it that way! Including known whites. Duluth shows people in this commercial like they could use some money and would be easily paid off. Duluth, white people and those behind this privilege are counterproductive in America in every way! Sincere privilege is earned and encouraged. These white people are dangerous to promote skin color privilege and who's ever responsible in airing the commercial is just as dangerous as the stir intends to cause. America's government is suppose to see people equal banning government spending tax dollars in recognition of race, creed, culture or skin color. Distinctively unconstitutional. These things can be privately funded to publically acknowledge by choice that builds self governing freedom and holds government's dutiful conduct in fairness and equality of people as people, discipline by the peoples' constitutional limitations.

      Not sure why America has a "black caucus" representing what America forbids! Not only is it demeaning to be singled out by skin color in today's America of yesterday's equal opportunity, it's insulting to people who aren't blind!! Need America back where people aren't influenced by opinions of personal ignorance!

        I didn't mean in any way to generalize all white people as my comment may imply. Just those that know who they are and those that would not realize they're lowering themselves to participate in this skin color supremacy. I didn't know the human creator privileged white people the ability to control the "actions" or "reactions' of security personnel, law enforcement, thought process? How ridiculous! Don't lower yourselves or see yourselves privileged by skin color! Is it a privilege to be held to the highest to pay for those who aren't held to anything? Insecurities Obama and his regime exploit at every opportunity! I'd call that sucker more than privilege!

        "it's not luck, it's privilege!" says your instructor! IT'S NEITHER!!! Rhetorical pomp is what it is! Everyone with skin covering their bones is accountable to their individual actions utilizing personal dignity no matter what title or skin color they possess or not! Anything else is discourteous to all humanity!!

        According to the white supremacists in Duluth, I would assume everyone who isn't white is in jail if "white privilege" had merit which privilege has and these white people don't!

        Don't fall into activism for the wrong reasons infiltrating society. We have to build America's strength not pamper weakness and acknowledge privilege that only exists for confrontation and instability between human skin colors, people. SKIN COLORS!!!! I'd like to know each of us of our own is much better than this diversion.

        The ability to inherently learn from each other makes all humanity privileged, until it's taking over by government force using subliminal means and messaging!

      It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

      Well, when DHS wrote a report on home grown domestic terrorists, I remember the uproar coming from the conservatives regarding the report.
      I wonder why they were so upset with the report.
      Conservatives shouldn't be welcoming armed domestic terrorists even if they are white and look like themselves physically.
      It appeared to me as a liberal white guy that maybe conservatives wanted to protect their own "constituent" group while not acknowledging their existence because acknowledging them is like admitting having an illegitimate child with another women.
