  • ExxonMobil Promotes Administration's Effort to Nationalize Education

Oil giant ExxonMobil is promoting the Obama administration’s controversial national education standards push through television ads and a dedicated page on its website.

To date, 46 states have signed on to the Common Core State Standards Initiative, which would nationalize the content taught in every public school across America.

While Education Secretary Arne Duncan derides as a “conspiracy theory” the notion that common core standards are being imposed on states, the administration has conditioned access to federal funding for Race to the Top and No Child Left Behind waivers on standards adoption.

Beyond even that “incentive,” the Education Department would directly finance the national tests to administer in all states with common core curricula in place, meaning the federal government will be assuming even greater control over decisions that should – and have traditionally been – reserved for state and local governments.

But ExxonMobil is throwing its weight behind common core national standards, airing a television ad promoting the effort and touting it on its “Let’s Solve This” web page.

“If Exxon – or any other company for that matter – wanted to ensure an educated workforce down the road,” commented Heritage education policy expert Lindsey Burke, “the last thing they should be doing is supporting further centralization in education.”

“It will be market-driven reforms like school choice that will reform American education – not top down mandates about curriculum from Washington,” Burke added. “And make no mistake about it – the Common Core national standards push has been heavily incentivized by the administration, and has lost any semblance of being ‘voluntary.’”

Do we just ignore the historic fact that the more money the federal government puts into education and the more control that is centralized in Washington educational standards are eroded and America drops further down the list in school performance.

There is absolutely no power or authority in the Constitution of the United States for the federal government to have anything to do with education. The higher costs of education from Headstart to post graduate studies is in direct ratio to federal interference in education.

At least these companies (like ExxonMobil) are showing themselves as the sellouts they are. I'll add Exon to my list of crony capitalism enities (like GM) that I will no longer support with my money. I have already stoped using any company that promotes a "green agenda" for the very same reason.

The Federal Government can't run anything with success. They have made a mess of the dumbing down of our kids now. Can you just think of what a national test will look like…think about it. Our school kids are so far behind the rest of the world. Execpt for our private schools and our home schoolers education in this country K – 12 sucks. Each state should and needs take back from the Fed's education of our young and push for higher standards. Make the kids know the 3 R's and be able to think on their own. Not just what your government tells you

Agree with you! Get the Gov. the heck out of our lives! Can't believe Oil Cmp would back anything like this. We need to reclaim the Constitution, as well as Christianity if we ever hope to correct the direction of America and our schools.

I will never purchase any product made by Exxon from now on.

This Obama administration knows full well they must start indoctrination of students before they are turned over to the Marxist/communist professors in most collages. For Exxon/Mobil to enter into such a pack with Obama, we must wonder what did Obama promises in return for this treason. Unlike some in the media, we who believe boycott work, Exxon/Mobil should understand that America will not stand for behind closed doors deals with a president who's final goal is the destruction of this nation.

I believe Heritage Foundation would be doing a great service if it would supply the proper contact information for the people at ExxonMobil who are promoting "Let's Solve This." They need some feedback from "friendlies" who have the best interests of students and shareholders of ExxonMobil stock in mind.

Question: What is the acronym for "National Education Association"?

      Answer: "Exxon".

    10. Bobbie says:

I can't believe these companies were free to build their services at their own accord while they commend the PEOPLE into socialism, communism, fascism and Marxism. Their commercials are inspiring but now we know what's behind them. Total disappointment EXXON! I feel sympathy for all those Exxon set up to advertise Exxon under false pretenses.

    11. Diane G. says:

Next thing we know the government printed "History Books" will have Barack Obama as the "First" President and in a few years all children will believe it to be true…scary stuff.

    12. Bobbie says:

Quite a shock as their commercials seem so inspiring. They used people to advertise their product and then walk them into 3rd world lead…
