  • Chuck Colson's Redemption Story

We at Heritage were saddened to learn of the death of Christian leader, cultural commentator and former White House counselor Charles W. “Chuck” Colson.

America is the land of second chances — and few men have made more of theirs than Chuck Colson did. For in addition to loving and serving his country, the former Marine captain and “President’s hatchetman” came to love and serve a God of second chances.

As an author, speaker and laborer in the vineyard, Chuck spent the past four decades encouraging others to escape poverty, addiction, hopelessness and dependence on government — and to embrace life and liberty. Through his Prison Fellowship Ministries, at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview and in partnership with countless allies — including Heritage on our “Seek Social Justice” project — it truly can be said that Chuck did the Lord’s work.

His was an unlikely, amazing journey of redemption. We, like so many others, will miss his cheerful, winsome presence on the battlefields and the mission fields.

Well done, Chuck. We’re lifting you, Patty and the entire Colson family in our prayers.

    1. Christian leaders all over the world have been putting out tributes to this great man. Those who snickered at Chuck Colson for accepting Christ while in jail have been proved mistaken because of his faithful service the last 38 years to our Savior. Thanks for posting this tribute. Here are some more tributes which I put up at my blog. http://thedailyhatch.org/2012/04/22/christian-lea

I am one of the100's of Centurions that Chuck Colson and his very capable team trained over the past decade. Chuck has been a great encourager and educator to those of us who have had the privilege of training under his leadership. I already feel a great void with Chuck's departure to his etertnal destination but also a great resolve to step up the pace to carry out the Call we each have on our lives to make a difference in the sphere of influence we have been given.

    3. A great man who overcame his sins and a shaded past because of the Love of God, and a God of second chance! Chuck Colson's life reflected the glory of salvaton thru the death and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is a word that he shared thru his Christian ministry to the down troden and lost. Thanks be to God for taking a life of no hope and transforming this man into a calling' that many could hear today if they would listen with their hearts and obey!

There can be no better scene than that of God's Grace at work in prisons. Words can not begin to convey what happens during this "life-changing" experience. Scripture is full of ordinary men and women, sinners at best, and chosen by God to serve His purposes. Many prisoners have been freed of their sins to live good and Godly lives due to Chuck's calling and our awesome God.
"Well done my good and faithful servant" is the message Chuck received when he went home last week.
