  • Obama's Rush to Approve Keystone Segment Won't Speed Construction

The White House announced on Wednesday that it would expedite the approval process for the southern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline, but the company building the pipeline says the move will do nothing to speed its construction.

President Obama looked to use the stunt as a way to counter critics who say he has stymied the development of fossil fuels even as gas prices are at record highs. But as Heritage’s Nick Loris noted Wednesday, you can’t expedite a project by rejecting it. If the president were concerned with the country’s oil supply, his State Department shouldn’t have rejected the larger pipeline project.

The president’s enthusiastic backing of the portion of the pipeline running from Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast won’t actually speed pipeline construction, according to TransCanada, the company building it.

President Barack Obama’s promise to expedite review of the southern leg of TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone XL pipeline won’t speed up the timeline for the project, which already is slated to start construction as soon as June…

TransCanada’s president of energy and oil pipelines, Alex Pourbaix, said in an interview March 6 that construction on the Cushing phase of Keystone could begin as soon as June. The company doesn’t expect the new review process to change that schedule, Cunha said yesterday.

The Cushing phase would have continued apace without presidential action, but Obama looked to take credit for some portion of the project, which Americans support by a 2-1 margin, according to Gallup.

The tactic is similar to the president’s repeated claims that fossil fuel production has increased under his administration. While technically true, he neglects to mention that the majority of that increase has occurred on private lands, over which he has no authority. On federal land, fossil fuel production is at a nine-year low.

Does this guy really think the American people are so stupid they don't see through his games? Talk about a lame duck. People need jobs, and lower fuel prices and all he can think to do is play politics. January 2013 seems so far away.

      • @joestickney says:

just look at the social security ponzi scheme some try to prmote i8ts solvency like medicare and public pension trust funds potmkin economics

      • Peabody1911 says:

Yes, the american people are that stupid.

Democracies don't work and is the reason we have the mess we have today. The word Democracy can not be found in the Constitution.

The Founding Fathers even knew it was a bad idea for the people to vote for POTUS and VPOTUS.

Ben Franklin knew that the people could not preserve the form of government they gave us.

    2. WhatAboutBob says:

But it really looks good on his campaign resume? His approval on the southern leg not even required! Theft by deception? Fool me once and shame on you. Fool me twice and shame on me!

    3. Gladius says:

There are times …like this when obie lies so much that I think how can anyone believe him. If the American people wake up he is going to loose in a landslide.

    4. Bobbie says:

Done with deliberate hindrance!!! This is AMERICA!!

When Obama says drilling isn't going to be productive or reduce costs, doesn't that make him in control? But when common sense/logic/records/history proves him wrong? Did he lift all the regulations that are in the name of the man made global warming found to be false as it's claim? Democrats grow up and stand for America and her people, not Obama and his take over!

    5. Barry's stunt today was another epic failure, and to think he burned 80,000 gallons of jet fuel to try and pull it off is amazing..

    6. Maknroom says:

What good is a third of a pipeline? What are they going to send through it from Oklahoma . . . wheat???
Maybe they will flush seawater and sand north so Oklahoma can have a beach.

      Good try, Obama.

    7. Lloyd Scallan says:

Day after day Obama proves to the American people just how dishonest he is and must not be trusted. Yesterday almost every word from his mouth was a lie. Yet most in the media continues to soften Obama's
distrotions by using words like, "mistaken, misstatement, or inexperienced. Obama is a liar! In fear of exposisng his ideology, Obama uses anyone or anything to get his agenda passed the American people. Can we all imagine what four more years will be like without the limitations of reelection.

    8. CPB says:

He does this in front of a pipline site and again makes these claims about how we use 20% and only have 2% of the worlds oil supply, and right in front of a group of what I would assume would be oil workers and experts who know he is full of it. Reallly getting tired of hearing this guy babble.

    9. allen says:

The Germans used COAL by turning it into "JET FUEL", I know we have this technology and it has been tested at an Air Force Base in Mt. During WWII The ME-292 Twin Jet Fighter flew on this. Chuck Yeager shot one of these fighters down. We have 24% of all the coal in the World, enough to last Six Hundred Years . Why isn't there more articles about Coal to Fuel? Lets at least talk about this…

      • Wise Old Owl says:

obama wants to kill coal also. He said so when running for President. He said he wanted to make coal so expensive coal powered plants would be forced to shut down.

    10. Jeanne Stotler says:

I would think these people who are cheering him on are imported, I can not see oil workers standing and cheering blatant lies, especially in Oklahoma. I've often thought that his crew bring in people or they threaten them not to embaress the POTUS, there cannot be that many stupid people who cannot add 2+2 and come up with 4. By the way since his crew calls us who don't support him Racist, what are those who only vote for him because he has dark skin, to me that is racist with a capital R

    11. Mutantone says:

just an election ploy that he will surely change his mind again if he is elected

    12. oldrndirt says:

Everyone knows Obama is a liar. The MSM love him because he is their liar. The left succeeds because of the cover provided by the MSM. The only weapon against the left is the truth. To lie is to play a game it controls by its rules. The media referees the game. Unfortunately most of the ref's are in the tank for the left.

Right now the Republicans need to get behind the candidate that can win. This means the other candidates
drop out of the primary race and put their support behind one candidate. That support includes any remaining $ in the campaign chest as well as stumping for the party's candidate.

Super pacs need money from large and small donors. Any donors who can legally provide funds. These pacs should target the lies from the left on the economic, jobs, debt, energy, no budget, immigration and the Fed's role in the decline of the dollar. http://youtu.be/L2AMOgKM6qo This type of commercial needs support. It is a parody on the Dems Ryan throws granny off the cliff. It confronts the lie.
