  • Harry Reid Reverses Course on Judges; Political Stunt Backfires

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) decided his political stunt on judicial nominees wasn’t working. He abandoned the plan Wednesday, agreeing to a deal with Republicans to schedule votes for 12 district-court nominees and two circuit-court nominees before May 7.

The deal ensures President Obama’s nominees will received an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor. That’s exactly what conservatives like Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) had wanted. Lee, still outraged by Obama’s unconstitutional “recess” appointments in January, has vowed to vote against each nominee until Obama rescinds the appointments.

Reid, hoping to paint Republicans as obstructionists on judges, held up passage of the House-approved JOBS Act. Reid charged that the minority had “refused to allow us to even vote” on nominees and “prevented the Senate from doing its constitutional duty.” But those bombastic claims were easily dismissed by a quick review of history.

In the two months following Obama’s illegal appointments, the Senate has confirmed seven judicial nominees. Overall, Obama has secured approval for 129 district-court judges in three years. That’s more than President George W. Bush’s 120 confirmations over his final four years in office. And of the 83 judicial vacancies that currently exist, nearly three-fourths are either waiting for action from the White House or the Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee.

“I am pleased that Senator Reid has reversed his decision to force a series of unnecessary and contentious cloture votes on judicial nominations,” Lee said in a statement. “The record demonstrates that claims of Republican ‘obstruction’ were simply false. Indeed, the whole episode was merely a political maneuver designed to distract the American people from the failed Democratic legislative agenda.”

Lee also called on Reid to retract his statement that Obama should fill vacancies with the more unconstitutional “recess” appointments.

Senator Reid is pure politician, and I am not saying that in a good way. I am tired of Democrat and Republican leadership in Congress and the White House posturing for partisan and election purposes. They seem to be more involved with worrying about reelection and there jobs, instead of working on solutions to the problems facing the United States.

How is it possible that this Democratic majority leader is more political and obstructionist than the last?
Could it be the shame of having told us the "lock box" secured the funding of Social Security during his 2010 campaign only to have to beg last July, 8 months later, for permission to borrow in order to cover the next month's benefits checks? Could it be realizing he and his party had spent a decade telling us the "lock box" was a $2.5 Trillion asset, only to have to admit it actually was a liability? ….part of the nation debt? ….never to be paid off until the nation again runs a surplus, if ever?
Dishonest, deceitful, demoralized and committed to that life for another 5 years… No wonder after all.

Harry Reid If you don't bow to my threats I'll throw one of my hissy fits, you'll be sorry! I have a problem trying to figure out why anyone would want a monumental meglomaniac like him in office? What kind of people live in that state? I could see the first time he was elected, as being an error in judgement. Beyond that, you have to be brain dead to do it a second time!!

Harry Reid is nothing more than a radical statist in the same vein as his partners in corruption; BHO, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Schumer, Waters, Jackson-Lee….the list is endless! These people have damaged our nation so very much that we're teetering on the edge. They're not about doing what's right for the America people or the USA. What they're about is POWER and TYRANNY while they waste our tax dollars at the same time they try to stack the courts with acivist judges! We the people are sick & tired of this insanity and we're very angry….as all current polling shows. It's time to get these radical leftist statists out of office and return our nation to the values & principles upon which it was founded and has existed for going on 236 years! God Bless America, Keep Her Free and Strong! Semper Fi!
