  • Derrick A. Bell Visited the White House Twice in 2010

UPDATE: In a story for ABC News, Jake Tapper asks the White House about Derrick A. Bell’s visits. “The answer from a White House official: this was not the same Derrick A. Bell,” Tapper reports. “He (sic) one had a different birthday than the late law professor, whose birthday was November 6, 1930.” Scribe attempted to confirm this information with the White House yesterday, which was noted in our original report. Click here to view the visitor records.

Visitor logs show that Derrick A. Bell visited the White House twice since President Obama took office. The logs show two visits by an individual of that name on January 29 and 31, 2010.

Derrick Albert Bell, the late Harvard professor and controversial scholar in the field of Critical Race Theory has been thrust into national headlines after conservative bloggers at Breitbart.com posted video of Obama lauding his work at a 1991 rally at Harvard.

Heritage could not independently confirm that the Derrick A. Bell listed is the same individual who spoke at the rally. The White House did not return a request for comment.

In the video, Obama tells the crowd to “Open your hearts and open your minds to the words of professor Derrick Bell.”

Those words tended to be quite controversial. Bell is widely credited with pioneering the field of Critical Race Theory, a radical school of legal thought that holds that the American legal and political systems are inherently racist.

Hmmm, no response from the White House on this?

I can only think that, if this isn't the same Professor Bell, they would have responded by now, if for no other reason than to say, "This isn't the same Professor Bell."

I'll reserve judgement until I don't hear from the White House.

    3. Joseph L Gause says:

The MSM pundits are already falling all over themselves declaring that "this video is no big deal!" They don't mention Derrick A. Bell's adherence to the radical Critical Race Theory. To them he was just an esteemed Harvard Law professor.

    4. Paul says:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have so much now though there is no doubt we have a traitor in the WH and he should be impeached NOW!

    5. Buffoon says:

I wonder what the reaction would have been if say David Duke had visited Bush in the White House?

      • Carlos Machina says:

The David Duke, the former KKK guy, or a David Duke who happens to have the same name as the other guy, but with a different birthday?

    6. Clarence says:

      Gahr-bahge!

    7. JohnJay60 says:

Dereck Bell also a famous race car driver, often down here in Florida. This is my "race" theory for the day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Bell_(racing_d

    8. ant says:

You're really comparing Derrick Bell, a respected scholar, tenured professor at Harvard who was fighting for diversity at Harvard to someone who was the Grand Wizard of the most HATEFUL, RACIST, VIOLENT ANTI-NON WHITE organizations there have ever been, Ku Kulx Klan. The Klan is the first domestic terrorist groups in American history and responsible for the deaths of thousands of minorities. No where in Derrick Bell's history does have an association with anyone that has done the atrocities that the KKK has performed. People please stop with this rhetoric.

    9. Bobbie says:

what an ugly display of the minds of the weak that have poisoned to weaken the minds of many.

      Debunked. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/did-

I guess you'll now be issuing a full retraction of your trumped-up, unsubstantiated smear, right?

    11. steve h says:

Oh my… how Pathetic the conservatives have become that try and make an issue out of someone Obama huggest 21 years ago…and then this? It's the wrong Derrick Bell. What happened to you Heritage?

    12. Really? says:

Not the same Derrick Bell. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/did-
Another right-wing flip out over nothing. Epic Fail, Heritage Foundation!

    13. Any reason you folks decided to cut out the portion of the document that lists the reason he visited as a White House tour from your report? Or that he was on this tour with 200 other folks? And that, as this list contains over TWO MILLION entries, it might not be the intimate evening you seem to suggest?

Ignoring the fact that the White House has since confirmed that this is a different guy since you put out this nonsense, don't you think you're going to great extents to take out _any_ context in order to make this look somehow nefarious?

Reality should shape your ideas, not the other way around.

    14. steve h says:

Records show he was on a tour with 300 others…you guys have uncovered the next watergate!!! this = fail

    15. Mike says:

You people are pathetic. Not even the same guy, plus you don't really understand anything he had to say.
This campaign against Obama is the WORST sort of race baiting on the part of the right and is a primary reason that Obama will be re-elected in 2012.

    16. CjG says:

      and?

Heritage, America's Fifth Column for far too long.

    17. Bob Lees says:

Ooops how long till you scrub this from your site? Wrong Derrick A. Bell, I suppose it's a mistake anyone can make but it sure is a lot funnier when it's from a flailing RW gasbag.

    18. vfeinstein says:

Ahhhhh … the rank and odorous stench of GOP desperation … REFRESHING!!

    19. Morel says:

      UPDATE: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/did-

Wrong Derrick Bell, and he was on a tour with over a hundred other people….

      Fact check, please.

    20. Alexis says:

Isn't it incumbent on the person reporting the news, to verify that what they report is accurate?

I bet if you look through the list of visitors to the White House you would find many people with the same name as murderers, criminals and even a few racists.

    21. Guest says:

You might consider updating your story, as:

      a) This was a visit for a White House Tour–among 300 other people; and more saliently:

      b) This was not the same Derrick Bell. It was an entirely *different person*, who had a different birthday than the late law professor, whose birthday was November 6, 1930.

That would seem to undermine the significance of this visit.

      This conspiratorial nonsense…

    22. Guest says:

      Clearly, he's ***GUILTY***!

    23. Austin says:

The Heritage.org better known as a REICHWING HACK , should do some research before they publish LIES and MISINFORMATION. The Derick Bell who's name was in the White House's visitors list was a tourist. It's clear Conservatives aren't very bright, but difference people can share the the same name.

      • Bobbie says:

it's clear you're not very bright, Austin. It clearly states that in the article. and who ever knows "heritage as a reichwing hack," are people who's minds that have been severely confined to perception. Can't think beyond. Don't worry, if you want you'll stop cheating yourself and open that mind. Your freedom of choice.

    24. philmon says:

Let's see, assigned and admired a race-baiting, Jew-hating law professor who lives to harass white people and thinks the entire American system is inherently racist, and sat in the pews for 20 years of a … race baiting, Jew-hating preacher who thinks the entire American system is inherently racist, and admired a father who had a strong anti-colonial bent to him, especially directed at Britain …. promises to "Fundamentally Transform" the nation…..

Gets in office, sends a bust of Churchill from the White House given to us by the Brits back to their embassy, and after receiving a thoughtful gift of a wooden pen made from the shattered remains of a slave ship by the Brits gives them in return a bunch of DVDs that won't play on players in their country and an iPod full of his own speeches to them. Strains our relationship with Israel to historic levels while bowing to their enemies, starts a website for "African Americans For Obama", talks about "typical white people" …. administration stonewalls and dismisses Black Panther voter intimidation …

      Yeah. It's relevant.

    25. manfredo says:

jeez. remember when the heritage foundation used to be an independent conservative think tank engaged with policy and ideas? fast forward to today. this is first rate political hackery. a true embarrassment. but i guess false smears and innuendo are much easier to trade in than actually thinking.
now, how about a CORRECTION and an APOLOGY.

    26. Johnny Fever says:

what a joke. U guys knew it wasn't the same person and went right on playing it up suggesting he was! You had the other data showing the birthdate proved he wasn't and you purposefully omitted it and added your "no comment from the white house" to suggest some cover up. How do you sleep at night?

    27. Andrew says:

Sigh. Never let a good story get in the way of the FACTS, something Heritage used to be good with. If your "reporters" worked at a real news organization — liberal, conservative or mainstream — you would have been fired by now.

    28. Bobbie says:

I watched Hannity last night and a woman was on defending Mr. Bell saying (paraphrasing,) "he promoted what people believe." That's very demeaning when people have been manipulated through authority what to believe, cheating people their own life's personal experience by indoctrinating personal perception taught as fact when it's only fact is some MAY have experienced but isn't as a matter of fact and no time should waste sitting in an auditorium getting lectured on some peoples personal judgment of another of ALL peoples of ONE skin color, also demeaning/belittling when lifes experiences teaches well, in it's own way, on it's own merit and where there may be racism it isn't amongst all of every white skinned people falsely taught and assumed as fact while ignoring the actual racism provoked. quit antagonizing! It's not productive! Let people see people for who they are not what you want them seen to be. How low!

Remove paid courses that teach someone's personal perception/opinions when both are learned through ones own experiences which are never the same and without outside paid influences as those who get paid to teach them.
