  • More Obama Bundlers Cash In With Massive Air Force Contract

Ronald Ratner is the president and chief executive of Cleveland-based real estate giant Forest City Residential Group. His cousin, Deborah Ratner Salzberg, is the president of the company’s Washington D.C. office. Together, the two bundled between $200,000 and $500,000 for the 2008 Obama campaign. They’ve bundled another $200-500,000 for his reelection campaign as well, as of the fourth quarter of last year.

Since Obama took office, the Ratners have seen millions in federal taxpayer money funneled to Forest City. They are the latest in a long line of Obama supporters who have received taxpayer money, been appointed to federal posts, or enjoyed significant access to administration officials.

Ron Ratner hosted a fundraiser for the 2008 campaign featuring then-Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden. He also hosted Obama at his home for a meeting with Jewish leaders of Ohio.

The fundraisers have continued this election cycle: in September, Ratner again hosted Biden at his home for a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee’s Obama Victory Fund. Tickets to the event cost between $1,000 and $5,000.

Barely two weeks after Ratner hosted Biden for the DNC event, Forest City announced that it had signed a 50-year privatization deal with the Air Force “for the development and management of 2,185 family homes at four U.S. Air Force bases in the Southeast.”

The developments are valued at more than $300 million. Forest City “will also earn an on-going fee,” the company said, though it declined to specify what the fee would be.

The Air Force contract was not the first time Forest City received taxpayer dollars. According to data obtained through USAspending.gov, the company and other Forest City holdings have received at least $4.9 million in 40 different federal grants, contracts, and other payments since fiscal year 2010.

The Ratners are not the only high-profile Obama supporters to receive federal money in one form or another. The Center for Public Integrity documented that nearly 200 Obama bundlers had received direct payments from the federal government, access to federal officials, or appointments to key administration positions.

In addition to Forest City’s federal payments, Ron Ratner was also appointed by President Obama to the council of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Was the contract put out for bid ? I thought all government contracts had to be put out for bid. This seems to be another Obummer administration scheme. And I would think that the award based on this would not be legal.

    2. Lloyd Scallan says:

WOW, What a surprise! When will we all understand that Obama is not only the most dishonest person to ever sit in the White House, but also the most corrupt?

      • Eric says:

Right, Lloyd, this stuff SURELY never happened in the Bush Administration. Right?

        • JustTheFax says:

The problem with you, Eric, is that you were probably out there SCREAMING Haliburton for all eight years when GWB was in office, yet you, like all the other dishonest and biased supporters of Obama, staunchly defend Obama when his hand gets caught in the government till. You wouldn't know "fair and balanced" if it came up and bit you on the face.

    3. Not Obama says:

Lachan Markay, what are you trying to say? That the entire process required to respond to RFQs, be selected as highest ranking offerer and then enter into exclusive negotiations that took about 18 months, a siugnificant amount of "skin in the game" as is consistent with any and all projects awarded under the MHPI legislation is all a sham? That the award is a direct payoff to Forest City direct from Obama? Based on what exactly?

Your use of the proximity of these events to imply that there is someting sinister going on is truely ignorant. Do they teach ethics where you went to school? Did you do any research to support your claims?

I am all about discrediting Obama, not a fan by any stretch. This kind of journalism doesnt help the casue though.

Yellow journalism, or the yellow press, is a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers.[1] Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.[1] By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.[2]

      You should be proud.

Not Obama, where there is smoke there is fire. What prevents you from putting 2+2 together. That's rhetorical as I note from your attack that logic seems to escape you.

    5. wesinthemidwest says:

The most corrupt administration to occupy the WH in ages.
I guess he brought too much of Chicago to Washington with him.
Can you imagine what is coming down the road if he gets re-elected?
      The country is doomed!

    6. grandmafae says:

If he gets relected ….Our Country will, more than likley, cease to exist as it has for over 200 years. He has already changed so many laws (he thinks of himself as a ruler here) and so many BAD changes already. "We are known by the company we keep"…."birds of a feather"…He and the Chicago Mafia are linked together….just think about it!
