  • A $230,000 Taxpayer-Funded 'Green Jobs' Website, but No Jobs Listed

How’s this for a waste of taxpayer money? According to Energy& Environment News, the Department of Energy is paying $230,000 for a website to promote career paths in the green energy sector–and it has, ironically, prohibited the listing of actual jobs in the industry. Here’s the report:

The Department of Energy has awarded a $230,000 contract to the Association of Energy Services Professionals to develop a website on energy efficiency jobs — but the agency has prohibited the listing of actual position openings.

Instead, the website will include information on what training and education is needed to nab a job, said Suzanne Jones, AESP’s vice president of marketing. In lieu of a job bank, AESP will provide 40 to 50 “very distinct” job descriptions in the energy efficiency industry, along with the education and training needed for such jobs.

A DOE spokesman did not return a request for comment in time for publication. The website — called “My Energy Gateway” — will launch in April 2012, according to AESP.

It probably shouldn’t be surprising that a “green jobs website” doesn’t actually list any green jobs. After all, President Barack Obama’s green dream has proven to be a bust. The President made green jobs a centerpiece of his Administration, and he hailed them as the future of this U.S. economy. The trouble is, those jobs didn’t materialize, despite a massive infusion of federal spending–including billions in the 2009 stimulus bill.

Even The New York Times wrote, ”federal and state efforts to stimulate creation of green jobs have largely failed” and Obama’s goal of creating 5 million new green jobs within 10 years is a “pipe dream.”

Maybe the Obama Administration is operating under “The Field of Dreams” theory — if they build a website, the jobs will come. A better strategy would be to get the federal government out of the way and let the free market thrive instead of spending taxpayer money on quarter-million-dollar PR projects.

I disagree, The jobs did materialize, in China, where they can make solar panels for 1/4 of the cost, Thanks to the over regulation and over taxation of businesses by the US government, the communist out perform us. Really sad.

    2. Noreen says:

This alone should make him eligible for impeachment!! I'm sure we could find some other things, too.

    3. Bobbie says:

is the American President immune from intentional acts of crime imposed on the people he serves? perjury? ineptness? trickery? theft? where in his job description are these required? lets have some American accountability and hold him to the law! he's thieving this country and with the money HE'S (and all the government millionaire members) holding America back!

    4. Jeff says:

china outperforms the US economically because they are not a communist society, it is one party totalitarian dictatorship

The part that amazes me is that my husband and daughter have a very savvy and progressive web design company capable of putting up sites that can do much more than list very specific opportunities and the specifics of education required. Why they could even post the available jobs as they come available and are filled, minute by minute all for 10% of the cost being paid. My My My! Wish we had been given the chance to bid this job and save taxpayers money.

    6. The webmaster has a job.

      @CraigJCasey — Damned straight.

    8. Steve Wilde says:

Pay me that money and I will post plenty of jobs!!!

The question remains…will the ignoramous american voter wake up or continue in their stupor come november 2012? Blaming Reagan for the Deepwater Horizon disaster and Bush for the economic slumber has lost its legs. It's time to realize you are viewing the problem in the mirror Mr. President. The celebrity in chief is losing his glitter.

This seems typically false. Companies can list jobs on their site for a fee now – The AESP Job Bank is a service offered for $400 per job posting for a 30-day period. See below to submit job postings. Employers will also see their postings in the weekly "What's New" email blasts for a maximum of 4 weeks or until the application closing date, whichever is sooner.

After completing all information, including payment, and clicking on "submit," the job posting will be immediately listed on the Web site. When placing a job posting, please be sure to enter contact information for interested parties and the date posted, as well as an application deadline date which can be no later than 30 days from the original post date. AESP will not be responsible for contacting employers or interested parties regarding a job posting once the listing is on the Web site. If you need to make modifications to the job posting, please email the changes to claudia@aesp.org and the changes will be made on your behalf.

For RFP postings please email Kim at kim@aesp.org for information.

How does this have anything to do with 0bama? Give me a break. Also, why would any president not support green jobs? I guess we should suspend all solar, wind and water energy projects.

      • Guest says:

Supporting with money? The idea of green jobs may be fine–and that's may. But we are not ready for them yet and they are not ready for us. If the private sector works on these issues and makes progress, THEN we can talk about putting so many of our eggs into the green jobs basket. Using so much regulation to hamper regular forms of energy production shuts down jobs before there are jobs ready to replace them in the green areas.

    13. John H. Seaver says:

All we need is a windmill in the White House and the Senate building. Also a thermal couple to extract the heat from the hot air being blown around WA/DC. The best government is the least goernment, let the private sector do what it does best innovate! I suppose BO had no knowledge of the Solyndra fiasco and other "green jobs" that were paid for by the entire country to benefit the few millionaires in CA (otherwise known as the left coast) who just happened to be BO supporters. IE Pelosi and BAba Boxer.

    14. Larry Williams says:

I want to know who's "brother-in-law" or "husband" got the contract to build the site? I could have built one hell of a site for 5 grand!

    15. Matt Snyder says:

Obama did (breaking a campaign promise in so doing) illegally and unethically engage in financial “misconduct” as evidenced by the fact that 80% of all of the “green capital” that was granted, loaned or guaranteed by the Obama Administration, were specifically awarded to heavy campaign contributors of Obama’s as “payback”. Based on the results, either President Obama is a completely incompetent, myopic oikaphobe, or the “Perfect Storm” of circumstances ripe for the government to declare yet another imaginary crisis to keep us all off of our toes while

Just another example of how the Obama Administration has over paid, over spent, and aside from a new tax, that is NOT a tax, for the Americans of the future to pay simply because they exist. It’s called Obamacare. It’s a pathetic joke. Sold to us all on a BIG FAT LIE specifically and on purpose. With the full knowledge the government can’t pay for it, Obamacare was unethically and immorally passed through congress due to threats of reciprocity from the Oval Office. Very un-Presidential. But, it is the only campaign promise I’m aware of he has kept.

Due to Obama’s lack of legitimacy (if he’s so legitimate, open ALL of his files and PROVE it) to hold high office, ALL of the laws, Executive Orders, edicts, and proclamations that have had anything to do with his administration, are not now and never were valid or executable.

I believe (based on months of research) that the Obama Administration’s true goal is the use of the whole “green” paradigm is being used as the excuse to financially bankrupt our nation and sign away our sovereignty, by fiat.

I can’t be the only person to notice that 80%+ of all capital intended for green projects went to heavy campaign “contributors”, WH insiders and other cronies. Most of whom had zero technology planned, let alone sitting in front of them. What it boils down to is…

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT ACTUALLY WANT BIOFUELS. Think of how much tax revenue and Big Oil bribe money would stop flowing into the pockets of the corrupted politicos. Enough said,

    16. firrypappioln says:

If this sight has already been funded and an extreme amount of money too have green jobs posted , are the employers having too pay too post jobs that are open on the sight?
A private head hunter would do for near the same!
