  • Happy Birthday to the Few, the Proud!

Today marks the 236th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. oldest military service: The U.S. Marine Corps. Older than the United States itself, the Marines are the quintessential incarnation of the best of the American spirit. For more than 200 years, the USMC has defined the standards of courage, spirit, and military prowess. The Heritage Foundation is honored to commemorate the birthday of this great brotherhood.

President Ronald Reagan said (1985): “Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But the Marines don’t have that problem.” With a proud tradition of excellence in combat, rituals, and code of honor, the Marines impose high standards on anyone who would wish to join the service. And once you are in, there is no turning back: Once a Marine, always a Marine. To date, more than 41,000 Marines have died so that Americans can live in peace and prosperity.

“As Marines we will not stand down until the mission is complete and our nation is once again secure,” says Sergeant Major Micheal P. Barrett. At a time when the country is engaged in two wars, the Marines continue to serve above and beyond the call of duty with an “uncommon valor,” making essential contributions to winning the battle and the hearts and minds of America’s allies in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. For their heroic and selfless service, the USMC has earned the gratitude of their fellow Americans. Thank you, USMC.

The Marine Corps is not the oldest Service– it is the US Army, whose birthday is Jun 1775.

Much as I love our Brothers in Arms, the Army is the senior service, officially established by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.

    4. Dave says:

The U.S. Army was formed June 14, 1775, making it the oldest armed service by about 5 months.

Thank you Heritage Foundation and MS.Bendikova for sharing one example of American military pride and ultimate sacrifice.
We are a military family and we took President Obama's words of , Mea Culpa, (our fault) personally.
WE ARE NOT" A NATION OF COWARDS."
The current modus operandi to bully us , degrade us, in front of the international community and to hold us hostage as a unified nation, has further debased our honor, as the leader of the free world.
Like you President Obama, we took an oath , "to protect and serve our country."
We have buried our friend at Arlington and other areas throughout our country.
Hear us ; We Veterans past and present know the meaning of American pride and also know it's not us.
It's you Sir, that has divided our country as a unified people.
God Bless America and all Veterans past and present.

Thanks my friend and Happy New Year.
It's been awhile since I've been on site.
One lesson in humility we Americans will never forget after this nightmare is finished,
is one failure after another of failed leadership and a non-functioning Congress.
We won't cave-in over the decision to say:
          "Hail Carsar"to transform America.
We see the emperor very clearly with his clothes on, as do you and millions of other Americans.
          Our Constitution will prevail .
