  • Leaked Emails Fuel Perception of Cronyism in Solyndra Loan

In a move that is sure to intensify the already testy exchanges between the White House and congressional investigators, the House Energy and Commerce Committee today released a series of emails showing that Obama donor and Solyndra investor George Kaiser explicitly mentioned the now-bankrupt solar company in talks with administration staffers.

The emails suggest that Kaiser, who bundled $50,000 for the president’s 2008 campaign, was more involved in Solyndra’s loan guarantee process than either he or the administration would care to admit.

The White House had previously insisted that Kaiser had never broached the subject in his 17 visits. But in one of three email threads released by the committee, Kaiser notes that “Solyndra came up” during his meeting with White House staffers. Other Kaiser employees also mention discussions with administration staffers about the company.

According to a report from ABC News, the White House insisted that “Kaiser never broached the subject of the Solyndra loan.” The newly released emails show that is not the case.

Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI) and Cliff Stearns (R-FL), who chair the full committee and its investigative subpanel, respectively, made note of the emails in a letter to the White House requesting compliance with subpoenas issued last week seeking documents related to the Energy Department’s Solyndra loan guarantee.

“While our inquiry is not focused solely on possible political influence surrounding the Solyndra loan guarantee,” Upton and Stearns wrote, “that is certainly one area of interest.”

The White House is not expected to comply with the subpoena. White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler called the committee’s request – which even included messages from the president’s Blackberry –“unprecedented and unnecessary.”

Here are the three emails, as provided by the committee:

Cronysm in the Obama administration? No Kidding

Cronyism at the Department of Energy? No Kidding

Cronyism at the Department of Justice? No kidding

The systemic cronyism like this is shaking the foundation of our country.

Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Texas. As described at http://LawInjustice.com, a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a “friendly” judge seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers and denied a jury trial. The business owner has been under this "servant" order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

      accountability in the obama administration?
accountability in the department of energy?
accountability in the department of justice?
      accountability anywhere beyond our control?
one thing missing that will settle all things missing.
accountability! and if no one has the dignity to hold themselves and all accountable, they aren't qualified to govern this great nation or her people!

Does not surprise me about our government, and especially the Obama administration.

Obama's Blackberry was lost at last weeks summit!

    6. Mike, Wichita Falls says:

What's more important…allegations of sexual harassment against Herman Cain or greasing the skids for a campaign contributor? I'm so glad to see our media have their priorities straight.

This is where I think most people agree with Occupy Wall Street protesters…the evils of crony capitalism. So why aren't they on the White House lawn?

    7. Karen A says:

What was/is Obama's definition of "transparency in the White House"? It would seem reasonable that transparency would extend to the willingness of the White House to make this information available to the American people however I'm not holding my breath.

    8. Kinderlynn says:

"The old boys club" has been in effect since the beginning of our nations birth, let us not focus on cronyism and focus more on a solution to requiring that Solyndra return the stimulus money given to the company before the infamous bankruptcy claim….the law is broken when public money is unreasonably given to support a failing business venture that pretends to have a valid solution to saving money. In reality the scheme was concocted long before the Obama Administration stepped into this business…the sad part is that as a tax payor while the government plays the blame game, the tax dollars are MIA!
