  • Hugo Chavez, Occupy Wall Street, and Double Standards

Hugo Chavez hates Wall Street, ground zero for “savage capitalism.” Daily he dreams of bear markets bringing the U.S. economy crashing down. He certainly likes the Occupy Wall Street movement. It is tailor-made for advancing Chavez-style “participatory democracy.” Little wonder he has dispatched his star propagandist to New York.

Eva Golinger, described as “a Venezuelan-American lawyer and editor of the English edition of the state newspaper Correo del Orinoco” (i.e., an arm of the Chavez regime). A well-funded apologist for Chavez, Golinger has apparently joined forces with the anti–Wall Street protest movement, gleefully reporting back to Venezuela news of growing disorder, imminent class struggle, and sinking capitalism in the U.S.

Golinger is also known for exposés of nefarious U.S. efforts to destabilize Venezuela by supporting endangered democratic groups. According to the Commentator:

[Golinger] is on Venezuelan government TV several times a week naming Venezuelan citizens who have dared to advocate for human rights or democracy in their country. Her main scapegoats, it would seem, are the National Endowment for Democracy and the United States Agency for International Development; two U.S. government organizations that provide support to civil society in monitoring Venezuela’s democratic collapse; a collapse in which Ms. Golinger is, of course, actively involved.

Ms. Golinger’s presence in New York is not illegal—although as an employee of the Government of Venezuela, technicalities could emerge regarding the Foreign Agent Registration Act.

Golinger’s newspaper makes no apparent effort at balanced reporting. For example, eye-catching in the latest issue was Chavez’s praise of communist China. Chavez predicted that China “is going to become the greatest power in the world and it’s important to note that this country didn’t need to invade anyone, nor convert itself in a murderous empire that steps on people like the yankee empire to become what it is.” (What about Chairman Mao, the Communist Revolution, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution?)

Long ago, tyrants learned that the first thing that goes in a revolution is objectivity.

Clearly, the safety and security of the U.S. does not depend on whether or not Golinger is free to move about and report from within the U.S. Her presence here, however, is a reminder of the consistent, well-financed efforts on the part of Chavez and company to stir the “anti-capitalist” pot abroad while isolating the domestic, democratic opposition in Venezuela behind walls of censorship, legal sanction, untruths, and vilification. This, too, is worth a protest.

    1. Novato says:

As the great ship Capitalism sinks under waves of its own making, it's heartening to read peckish slobs write from the deck about birds circling the ship.

      • BeaLoon says:

Do your own research regarding Mr. Chavez and ask why he is doing what is doing… and what he is doing to his own people.

      • Average_JoeMN says:

Capitalism is just fine. It's the idiot wishful reporting of commies like this that write their desires as "news" instead of the fantasy. Funny stuff, today's Pravda.

    2. Wingnut says:

Hey, if it helps collapse the giant servitude-infested join-or-starve pyramid scheme (and forced competer's church religion) called capitalism, we love it. Go girl go.

While I'm waiting for my other post (not) to be approved, I'd just mention that my McAfee says of you: "We tested this page and blocked content that comes from potentially dangerous or suspicious sites. Allow this content only if you're sure it comes from safe sites."

    4. truth says:

What form of "capitalism" requires the government socializing the losses of private corporations (FNM & FRE) and providing trillions of dollars at loans at 0% to a privileged few?

We have met the enemy at it is not Hugo Chavez.

    5. proudprimate says:

      cowards and frauds

    6. Bobbie says:

right, Novato. How dare America inspire individual worth. Capitalism isn't sinking under it's own waves. It's being drowned by people in positions of control who only have collective reasoning with respect only to their own. Lost their ability to think for themselves which is seen to be the goal. If Capitalism drowns, FREEDOM FOR ALL GOES WITH IT!

How dare America think persons of human life can live for themselves free from government's control. How dare persons have the dignity to govern their own. You don't have to have wealth to live free, Novato!

When the opportunity is there, anyone can take it or create their own opportunities as Steve Jobs did, which opened many doors of opportunities. One person as human as another.

This chick has the mindset of the socialist, communist ignorant, collecting unfortunately, the minds of the vulnerable. She's worthless to human decency as her collective mindset reveals and the only job she has is convincing through manipulation with absolute dangerous intent. Well funded destruction coming out of America's pocket! Her make-work job, unproductive to the good of human individual lives. Are "resentment builders" part of the President's fundamental transformation at a cost? How disgraceful! You go, Norato. Hopefully you'll know your mind is greater then to which it's been narrowed.

    7. JOHN PAUL JONES says:

Occupy wall street will probably go away in January to return in May.

    8. Lloyd Scallan says:

Let's see, almost every major union has operatives being paid to join the crowd, along with illegals and professional protestors. Now adding to the mix, we have a foreign government agent being accepted by these anarchist. Yet they have the gall to claim this is "spontaneous" or "not organized" and actually expect American to believe that. Their mask is off. These organized communist are openly advocating the down fall of our American economical system. But more important, they are supported by Obama, Pelosi, Hollywood, and national media leftist. Their should no longer be any doubt that the final goal of this Obama let administration is the collapse of our American way of life in favor of socialism.

    9. ROYSTOLL2 says:

The beauty of living under the capitalist systemis that most people have enough money readily available to fly to another country if their personal views do not follow the views held by the majority. These children and their rent-a-demonstrator union cohorts should buy a ticket and travel to any utopian destination that would put up with their nonsesical requests. What I can tell from this is they can't find a job for whatever reason, several of which seem to be oh so obvious. The fact that the President of our country and his Vice President and some Democrat members of Congress are sympathetic to their cause just illustrates the severity of what we face at this time. It is a case of the lunatics have taken over the asylum. As Thomas Jefferson once stated, "Democracy only works with a well educated electorate?. We have a problem and it is not limited to money for mental health care.

    10. Brad - Detroit says:

Capitalism created the computer and internet that Novato used to post his drivel. Ironic, isn't it ?

    11. El Cid says:

If the bully tyrant Chavez supports something, best be wary of it.

    12. Riot Dog says:

what an idiot comment. Obviously there is authoritarian tendencies within the chavez regime, but even before chavez these tendecies existed. interestingly enough, the news did not see a scandal back then. even when 3000 demonstrants were murdered in the Caracazo, that was not a problem for USAID, or other "democracy encouraging" organisations. The opposition tried to overthrow Chavez, while Chavez wins through elections. Still the 7 biggest TV Stations are in hand of the opposition, but thats not worth writing about.
The hipocracy happens in these kind of comments. Shame on you.

      • Mandacapit says:

The master mind behind El Caracazo was Fidel Castro… along with (by the time) future troyan horse (Hugo Chavez). If you want to know more about it (so you won't talking again without the facts in your hand) just google *Gral Carlos Peñaloza* and you will read the entire story about it. The real one.
