  • Congressman Asks Holder to Resign Amid New Fast and Furious Details

A conservative congressman today called on Attorney General Eric Holder to resign after new revelations surfaced about his knowledge of the botched Fast and Furious gun-running operation. Beginning in July 2010, Holder received at least five memos about the flawed operation, but told Congress this May he had just learned of Fast and Furious weeks earlier.

“As our nation’s top enforcer of the principles of law and justice, Mr. Holder has lost all credibility and should step down immediately,” Rep. Raúl Labrador said in a statement this afternoon.

Holder testified before the House Judiciary Committee on May 3, ducking responsibility for Fast and Furious. The operation, carried out by Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, put guns in the hands of straw buyers, who then gave the firearms to Mexican drug cartels. One of those guns was found at the murder scene of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have led the congressional inquiry and today announced that Holder knew more about Fast and Furious than he acknowledged at the May 3 hearing. In fact, Holder received memos about the operation for four straight weeks last year from Michael Walther, director of the National Drug Intelligence Center.

Those memos revealed to Holder that straw buyers were “responsible for the purchase of 1500 firearms that were then supplied to Mexican drug trafficking cartels.”

“Attorney General Holder has failed to give Congress and the American people an honest account of what he and other senior Justice Department officials knew about gunwalking and Operation Fast and Furious,” Issa said. “The lack of candor and honesty from our nation’s chief law enforcement officials in this matter is deeply disturbing.”

The lack of honesty didn’t sit well with Labrador, who first requested a hearing on Fast and Furious in March after learning about the flawed operation from his constituents.

“Attorney General Holder has a troubling pattern of failed cooperation with the legislative branch. Because of this intentional stonewalling and his misleading testimony, I now call for Mr. Holder’s resignation,” Labrador said. “It is clear he has not been honest about the extent of his involvement with the failed Fast and Furious program and should not be entrusted with managing the Department of Justice.”

if there's a bit of dignity, it's the least he can do. What's the sense of American tax payers paying people in position of protection yet no accountability to measures that are within their control showing intentional, no brainer, danger? Incompetence does not promote safety or protection or rational planning. No one knows who's doing what and that excuse is unacceptable in American leadership. No code of conduct familiar to us and totally opposite to the peoples' expected code of GOVERNMENT ethics. They don't have or know their own protocol. Nobody follows anything! It's at anyones' discretion? Not American leadership…very discomforting.

      • Marlene says:

Of course there is no bit of dignity for him or anyone in this Administration.

      • Bill S. says:

Forget dignity…he has no idea what that means..nor does his boss! My biggest fear is anarchy the streets and he and his boss use Martial Law to take over this country. If that happens, it is all over for the USA and those Patriots who live here!

    2. patriot says:

Is there no legal way to force this crook and others of his ilk out of office?

      • Elizabeth says:

He can be disbarred and therefore no longer meet requirements for U.S. Atty General or as a lawyer, period. He would not be able to reapply to the Bar for a period of five (5) yrs in most states.

      • Bill S. says:

        The Constitution!

      • walter says:

I would like congress to continue to investigate the matter and impeach the president if he does not fire the AG. It does not look like our president will do his job. He more intreasted in prorecting the criminals. That is good grounds for impeachment also.

    3. patriot says:

What legal recourse do we have when public officials lie to congressmen?

    4. malcolmkyle says:

These gun-running Feds are not only guilty of murder but also of bankrolling ruthless criminals, international terrorists, right/left-wing paramilitaries and various death squads with their counter-productive, sado-moralist policy of Prohibition.

Colombia, Peru, Mexico or Afghanistan with their coca leaves, marijuana buds or poppy sap are not igniting temptation in the minds of our weak, innocent citizens. These countries are duly responding to the enormous demand that comes from within our own borders. Invading or destroying these countries, thus creating more hate, violence, instability, injustice and corruption, will not fix our problem. We need to collectively admit that we are sick. — Prohibition is neither a sane nor a safe approach; left unabated, its puritanical flames will surely engulf every last one of us!

When we legally regulate something, (as opposed to when we foolishly attempt to prohibit something) we do NOT automatically condone it's use; the legal regulations concerning the sale and manufacture of alcohol and tobacco are there to protect us from the vast increase in criminality and mayhem that would otherwise surely exist if we were foolish enough to prohibit them.

When governments prohibit drugs they effectively and knowingly hand a monopoly on their sale to dangerous criminals and terrorists. Without a legal framework in which to operate, these black-market entities can always be expected to settle their disputes violently, while terrorizing many peaceful and innocent citizens in the process. Were the users of alcohol to blame for the St Valentines massacre in 1929? Of course not! It is just as naive to assume that one can compel all the users of Marijuana or Cocaine to simply quit, as it is to assume that all the users of Alcohol should have stopped drinking after the introduction of alcohol prohibition in 1919.

    5. West Texan says:

I honestly believe Obama's administration, if not the most corrupt, is very close to being the most underhanded presidency in our country's history. Eric Holder is a major player in Obama's gang of lying manipulative cheats. Fast and furious smacks of a conspiracy to undermine our recognized individual right to keep and bear arms. In Obama's case, he obviously speaks with forked tongue. His words to America, Mexico and the world about our cherished second amendment guarantee fail to match his actions. I question his so called Senatorial support for victims gun rights in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. IMHO, Obama's impeachment would help to clear out this rat's nest of malevolent incompetence from the federal government's executive branch.

    6. dam1953 says:

Fast and Furious and Holder's related testimony reveals one of three circumstances exist at the DOJ.

1 – Holder lied under oath.
2 – Holder was truthful and wasn't aware of Fast and Furious because he couldn't fully understand the meaning of the memos he received. He is therefore incompetent and unqualified for the position he holds.
3 – Fast and Furious was executed without his knowledge. The FBI and DOJ are being run by rogue agents and attorneys, out of control of the AG.

To summarize, Holder is either lying, a fool, a lying fool or thinks we are all fools. Take your pick, but in any case he needs to go.

    7. Fedup says:

Holder was doing what Obama wanted him to do. It was their scheme to discredit gun owners/retailers to further their attempts to promote anti-gun legislation and the U.N. Small Arms Treaty. Holder and Obama should be hung side by side.

    8. 65corkyw65 says:

This is a pity. Look how bad our government has gotten. From the president down they ALL lie, cheat and steal. We the People have been forced and I mean FORCED to take whatever they want to do. From obamacare's "we have to pass it to see what's in it" to sending guns to Mexico to be used against us. Holder is a cheap low life crook, put in office by another cheap low life crook and when they lie it's because WE LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. Put a stop to it now.

    9. Slick says:

As Jeremiah Wright would say, "America's chickens have come home to roost!" For the past 40+ years the silent majority FAILED to speak up to protect the rights given to them by the Constitution. That lengthy period of time gave the progressives the opportunity to slowly and steadily put into place more and more liberal policies and chip away at the freedoms we were given by God and guaranteed by the Founding Fathers. Then they hit the trifecta in 2007 when they won majorities in the House and the Senate as well as the Presidency which was the icing on the cake! At that moment they knew they had TWO YEARS to "fundamentally change" America before the masses would howl and go to the polls. What in the world did we think was going to happen when we failed to exercise due diligence to hold the progressive agenda in check????

And now, when the DOJ is led by a bunch of Chicago-style thugs, the only people who could demand their removal are the very ones who are behind the operation of programs like "Fast and Furious" from the start. Don't delude yourself into thinking that this President is going to do "the right thing" because his idea of the right thing and yours are certainly not the same!!! He LIKES the decisions made by the DOJ, the Energy Department, and all of the other examples of corruption that don't sit well with the American people. Those people are acting according to the progressive plan for this country!

I know that most Americans do not want to believe that our current administration is trying to collapse our economy, and they don't want to believe that our Prez does not CARE how much suffering is caused by his actions, or lack thereof. It is beyond comprehension that anyone living in this country, the most free country in the world, would want to destroy it. But the more I see and hear, the more I believe that is exactly what is happening. No, we are STILL trying to find some goodness in this man and his administration; we try to blame his failures onto inexperience, the Japanese tsunami, the Arab Spring, the multiple disasters caused by Mother Nature, anything that could explain what has led us to where we are.

So who is going to remove Eric Holder as the head of DOJ????? That's the million dollar question, isn't it!

He and all involved who knew the guns were being "walked" into Mexico should be charged with accessory to murder. After serving their sentence here they should be turned over to Mexico for any laws they may have violated in Mexico or internationally. They should also be barred from recieving any pardon.

My beloved America has only herself to blame…..Well-meaning Americans voted this Con Artist into office –
      enough said.

      • Bobbie says:

Blame America? Her principles stand true and honorable. If true and honorable persons were running her, she wouldn't be so "soft" and Americans would be respected as individuals of self worth. Read about her intent and history. It's not America. It's people who have been taking advantage of elected positions that deny compliance to their expected roles that continues to drown her life!

      • Elaine says:

Well-meaning Americans? I believe 95% or more blacks voted for him merely because he is half black. Likewise, I'd bet 99% or more union members voted for him simply because he is a Democrat. And certainly, the majority of radical feminist's, homosexuals, environmentalist's, Socialist's, Communist's, community organizers, welfare-recipients, and big-government proponents voted for him simply because he supports their ideologies or their desire for control over others or handouts from those who work and pay income taxes.

Ask Holder to resign? by, "one brave conservative congressman."
Is this the new definition by our corrent leadership?
Becasue if it is, all of us have regressed walking in a hunched positon .
Thank you IPHAZEfor thinking straight. You have given me hope.
This coward;, Eric Holder did the unspeakable. He has poison all aspect for our Federal law agencies to do their job with fear and betrayal to the oaths taken by all Federal law enforcers.
Janet Nap. is an incompetent hack and here boy wonders are all marching in goose step to allow a war on our border to continue at great danger to so many American families , law enforcement agencies, and add over 2000 weapons handed over to the terrorist backed cartel and here's what it looks like at the end of the day. http://wwwboderlandbeat.com/

    14. Elaine says:

This is merely the most obvious of Holder's lies and incompetence. He, along with Obama, are two of the most corrupt people ever to gain power in this country. When the head of the Justice Department refuses to enforce the laws of the land and works against those who take matters into their own hands such as Arizona which had to resort to protecting its own citizens against illegal alien criminals, this person is not only not qualified for the job, but should be forced to resign.

    15. JSNYC says:

RE: IT'S NOT JUST HOLDER'S FAILURE TO STOP BAD POLICY

It's the fact that he has his department of Justice suing those around the nation trying to uphold existing law like Arizona etc. – which seems to be an act opposite the interests of people who want to be protected and kept from deadly increases in services to every body and their uncle – whether one is a US citizen or not.

    16. Bud says:

Wake up, Americans! This is an election year. It is time to unload this entire cancer that this current president has disgraced, not only himself, but the whole nation. ACT NOW!!!
