A new poll from the Manhattan Institute [1] reveals 77 percent [2] of Hoosiers rate Indiana’s government as “efficient.” That’s the highest percentage of any state surveyed and a stark contrast to neighboring Illinois’ 23 percent [3].

Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-IN), now serving in his seventh year as the state’s CEO, has clearly left his mark on Indiana. This year, with Republicans in control of the state legislature, he’s continued to reform government, enacting landmark education reforms [4].

Daniels shared stories of his policy accomplishments [5] in a wide-ranging speech last week at Heritage. He’s the author of a new book, “Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans [6].”

Brushing aside speculation, Daniels said he did not write the book because he wants to be offered the vice presidency. Quite the contrary. In an interview following his speech, Daniels discussed the reforms he made to state government, the Democrats’ walkout from the legislature [7] this year, and what the federal government can learn from Indiana.

The interview runs about 6 minutes. Hosted by Rob Bluey [8] and produced by Brandon Stewart [9], with help from Hannah Sternberg [10]. For more videos from Heritage, subscribe to our YouTube channel [11].
