Solyndra has hired a team of five high-powered attorneys to help get it through its bankruptcy proceedings, according to documentation the company has filed in court (embedded below). Their firm, McDermott Will & Emery, also represented the company before it filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month.
Some of the attorneys who will represent Solyndra in bankruptcy court are as politically connected as the solar company itself. The Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney provided some details from their impressive political resumes:
Former Massachusetts governor and Senate candidate William Weld is Solyndra’s newest lobbyist, according to the solar panel company’s latest filing in bankruptcy court.
Former Steny Hoyer aide David Ransom, a Weld colleague at McDermott Will & Emery is also on the brand new Solyndra account, helping the company deal with the investigation into how it got this government subsidy despite its bad business condition. Hoyer’s old chief of staff Andy Quinn is already a Solyndra lobbyist, as is Quinn’s colleague Steve Ham at McAllister & Quinn.
The other DC lawyer named by the Legal Times story where I found this is former John Glenn aide and Reagan Administration lawyer Stephen Ryan.
As one might expect, this sort of representation does not come cheap. All told, Solyndra’s team may bill up to $2,550 per hour, the Legal Times notes.
Five people with McDermott and their standard hourly rates are listed on the application: William Weld, a former Massachusetts governor and U.S. attorney who is of counsel in New York, at $825; Washington partner Stephen Ryan at $775; Washington partner David Ransom and Silicon Valley partner Eugene Litvinoff, both at $525; and Jon Decker, a senior adviser in Washington, at $425.
Here’s a copy of Solyndra’s court filing.
Correction: This post incorrectly described the members of Solyndra’s team as lobbyists. The post has been updated to account for that correction. Scribe regrets the error.

good thing their failure won't disrupt their priorities defending their failure!!
Investment is for the individual to choose, not government!!!! Give us our money back, Mr. Government and invest your own!!!!!
Problem is the government thinks our money is their money.

I hope the American taxpayers are not paying for Solyndra's legal fees.
LIGHTS FLASH ON and look whose standing in the middle of the room dripping wet… liberals, rich fat cat liberals.
Who is paying for these attorneys??? I thought the company was bankrupt ….. or did they set some of OUR money aside to pay for legal fees???? Thanks Obama……. you're doing a stellar job of taking care of our money and our interests. Would you please step aside and let someone else screw us???
This is such a despicable joke on the American taxpayer. I'm so furious with this White House I could scream. White I believe they are trying to make us think they are just incompentent, I believe it is much more sinister than that.
They have accomplished all the rules from the Alinsky Handbook "Rules For Radicals". Now they are pitting people against people to make sure we are distracted by the BS and not paying attention. Despicable. Their agenda has NOTHING to do with what is in the best interest of this country – only what is in their best interest. Control.
Why are they so upset with Fox News? Because Fox News is the only news organization shedding light on what they are doing.
Of course the legal fees are tax dollars you don't think this scam was entered into as a charity. The top brass got their share of the loot before declaring bankruptcy. This must be very disturbing to the regime. These lawyers are sucking up money that could have been campaign donations to induce a billion dollar loan from the tax payer's for next great green venture. Silly me some of these lawyers fees will surely make it's way back to the regime through campaign contributions, of course it will be a smaller donation now.Had enough yet?
Nikki stole my words and thoughts. Is their any doubt that we, the tax payers, will be footing the bill? The Obama administration will do exactly what they always do, hide the truth from the American people so they can bail-out another supporter, under the table, at our expense.
I think their headquarters would make a great IKEA location!
Did they even bother putting solar panels on their roof? If they
were smart they'd have gotten them from China. If they were
really "smart" they could've pulled an Enron and pretended to trade in
solar panels.
The question has been asked regarding who is paying for this high powered bunch of lawyers? I think the American people need to have that question answered!!!
bailout tax payer monies!
It is quite astounding that a corporation could fritter away $535 000 000 000 in "Loans" in just a couple years. There is a very strong fetid, putrid odor coming from California, and similar whiffs emanating from D.C. near the White House. But the Media and big wheels in D.C are are spraying huge clouds of "Sweet Air" to cover it all up. We can only hope that in 2012 "Mr. Clean" can come into D.C. and scour and wash away the filth.
we just keep taking it, wait there is another crisis right around the corner
You say that this blog corrects a previous blog that called them lobbyists instead of lawyers. However, the Washington Examiner article you cited called them lobbyists, so you weren't off base. Isn't a lawyer much like a lobbyist in that they both promote their client's interests for a very handsome fee?
I suppose these lawyers will get a piece of the bankruptcy proceeds which only asset is that $535M government loan, so the taxpayers are essentially on the hook for them too. Thanks, Uncle Sam.
Solution…eliminate the loaning agency, the DOE. Come on, GOP Presidential field, you have to say it before you do it.
