  • Obama Runs Down Wrong Road on Immigration

Everything about the recent decision by the White House to just stop deporting illegal immigrants reinforces the conclusion that the Administration has adopted exactly the wrong policy. This will not help solve the problem of America’s deeply flawed immigration policies and broken borders.

I received a form email today from Stephanie Valencia, deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, informing me that “President Obama is deeply committed to fixing our immigration laws and has been aggressively searching for partners in Congress who are willing to work with him to pass a new law.” Apparently the President has demonstrated his sincerity, because the “under the President’s direction, for the first time ever the Department of Homeland Security has prioritized the removal of people who have been convicted of crimes in the United States.”

This proclamation undoubtedly referred to what The Wall Street Journal reported as “a surprise announcement, the Obama administration said it will review the deportation cases of 300,000 illegal immigrants and might allow many of them to stay in the U.S.”

It is difficult to imagine how the President believes he is going to find “partners in Congress” by refusing to enforce immigration law against the majority of those who are in violation of the law.

For starters, the Administration’s claim that it is the “first” to prioritize deportation of aliens who have committed felonies and violent crimes will come as huge surprise to just about every President since Ronald Reagan. In fact, I can’t think of any Administration that claimed it would not make deporting convicted rapists and the like its first priority.

Next, the President’s announcement sidesteps an obvious point—anyone who has violated U.S. immigration laws has already committed a crime.

The President’s “strategy” for enforcing immigration law, by only going after really “bad people,” also flies in the face of established practices of how to create a culture of compliance with the rule of law. Social scientists James Wilson and George Kelling introduced the “broken windows theory” nearly three decades ago. Its premise was simple: By enforcing “petty” laws, police can help create a well-ordered environment that discourages more serious crime. That theory holds just as well for immigration as it does for other crimes.

Finally, the gravest injustice is that strategy will encourage more illegal immigration—actually putting more immigrants at risk for a range of horrible fates, from rape and slavery to dying in the desert, to get here and qualify for Obama’s golden ticket. These facts are laid out in the Heritage paper “The Human Tragedy of Illegal Immigration.”

This is a broken-windows problem if ever there was one. No reasonable person expects the government to deport 11 million people. But it is reasonable to expect the government to make a good-faith effort to enforce the law and secure the border. There are responsible ways to address the issues of immigration and border security to everyone’s benefit, including would-be immigrants. The President, however, has chosen a different course.

Rather than attempt to solve a problem, the President waited for Congress and everyone else to leave town before announcing an initiative designed primarily to pander to those who do not care whether U.S. immigration laws were ever enforced. It is sad act to make on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11. Our government promised to restore the security of our borders. Now, it is actively working to undermine that promise.

So what will Congress do about this? Will they defend our rule of law or let Obama let the flood of illegals continue to destroy this country. Is there anything that can be done?

    2. JeffC says:

the galling thing is that nobody expects the Feds to deport the 11 million plus illegals in the country but the 300,000 we have caught should be a no brainer to deport …

      • Then, if we only catch and deport a few more than are coming in, eventually they will all be gone.
Additionally, if instead of creating policies that attract the illegal alien invaders, we enforce the laws that punish the invaders (and employers of them), and limit access to our social welfare programs, so that they aren't costing us as much, there wouldn't be as much reason for them to come here. They might even do what happened in Arizona, they might even leave.

    3. Bobbie says:

if it's not lawful to detain illegal immigrants, it's not lawful for government authority to steal from American tax payers to accommodate them in anyway! BALANCE!!

If immigrants choose to live in America they choose to walk on their own two feet and take on their personal dignity to provide their own way! It's in the founding documents (in so many words of course.) It's called freedom!

Reduce taxes by removing government programs that specify people by race, creed and culture regarding issues that are personal/parental and cognizant of livelihoods. This is not the role of government, this is freedom of the people where race holds no merit but personal/parental responsibility does and proper American government holds no favoritism, discrimination, racism, culturalism, bias etc., proper American government spends tax dollars on America and recognizes no one but "people" for the respect of human equality!!! Where common law rules! Once we bring it back…

This is America where you're freedom is to be in control of your own! Where the people have the power and the government has it's place! ! The government needs to be put back and people need to stand on their own!!!!

    4. Charlene says:

First, any and all "undocumented immigrants" (a.k.a. Illegal Aliens) are criminals. No, they may not have a "record" but that is only because our government has not enforced the law. However, just because they do NOT have a record does not mean they are not criminals, THEY ARE. And, with this administration's "new policy" of doing a case-by-case review of deportations, allowing many undocumented immigrants without criminal records to stay in the United States indefinitely and apply for work permits, what will they be living on? Who will be paying their rent, their food, for their anchor babies, health, their transportation, etc.? The legal American Taxpayer, that's who. This is a blatant case of aiding and abetting criminals in large numbers and is costing the taxpayers dearly, ADDING TO THE NATIONAL DEBT. And, with the job situation, why should these criminals get preference over legal immigrants coming into our country by getting work permits. Would we get a free ride if we did something that was nonviolent but illegal? No!

Let them go back to their country and fix it just like our country did when it was founded. This is NOT right and you all better start calling and writing the president and your elected officials since we're stuck with them — for now!

    5. nancy says:

The LAW is clear ~~ "ILLEGALS" are just that ~~ "ILLEGALS"…. They are trespassing on US soil. No privledges, no anchor babies, fine companies that hire "illegals".

    6. Rainman says:

Let me get this right, If they haven't commined a crime they can stay. Haven't they all commited a crime by being here illegally? Second, we have an unemployment rate higher than we have had for decades and we want these illegal immigrants to stay and apply for work visas. I have read on other posts about Obama were people are getting all kinds of flack from others if they speak their disapprovable for the things hes done. They all cry discrimination. I could care less what color he is, I think hes doing a crappy job and running the country into the ground. They compare him with Bush, Bush wasn't any better I agree. I am against people breaking the law and thats that. I am against letting people stay in the country just for the votes. Even if this doesn't work out he can say he was trying to change the immigration laws and will get the, "that a boy "vote. Don't be fooled people its all about the vote. Its only 6 montha away and hes getting desperate.

    7. Moni says:

First off, they are not immigrants. Immigrants want to become part of the society, follow the rules to citizenship. They hope to make this country their new hope. They come here hoping for a better life because they believe they can contribute to that better society. These people are illegal aliens, maybe undocumented but none the less illegal aliens. They have not contributed to the system but want to take from the system. They want to be counted until it is time to contribute. They cry at the mere thought of being a victim but have not problem victimizing someone else as long as the illegal aliens get ahead. I have and will welcome all immigrants but illegal aliens are breaking the law, at least once.

    8. Brittanicus says:

The Zogby poll conducted among likely Nevada voters in late January found that:

•77.7% of Nevada voters wanted E-Verify protections included in the stimulus bill.
•Nevada voters oppose amnesty (54.5% to 33.9%) for illegal aliens, an idea promoted by Sen. Reid.
•76.5% of Nevada voters believe illegal immigration has a negative impact on the state budget.

Voters’ perceptions of the brunt of illegal immigration on Nevada are rooted in reality, found in a new cost study by FAIR. The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Nevadans finds that taxpayers bear a $630 million annual burden as a result of illegal immigration, or about $763 per native-headed household in the state. The report finds that Nevadans spend:

•$515 million a year to educate the children of illegal aliens.
•$85 million a year on non-reimbursed health care for illegal aliens.
•$31 million a year to incarcerate criminal illegal aliens.

THIS IS JUST ONE US STATE, WITH CALIFORNIA HEAVILY IN DEBT BY THE MASSIVE INFLUX OF PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE BORDER. HOWEVER, 40 PERCENT ARRIVED HERE BY PLANE WITH NO REAL WAY OF TRACKING THEIR MOVEMENTS. ONLY GEORGIA, ALABAMA CAN REST A LITTLE EASIER AS THEY ENACTED OF IMMIGRATION LAWS, THAT WILL DRIVE ECONOMIC ILLEGAL ALIENS IN LESS PROTECTED STATES. SOON YOU WILL OBSERVE UNDEFENDED STATES WITH NO MANDATORY E-VERIFY OR "SECURE COMMUNITIES" DEFICITS SPIRAL UPWARDS IN THE FUTURE YEARS.

President Obama must go, as he might eventually decide to sign an executive order for all the 20 Million plus illegal aliens squatting in this country. He is doesn’t conforms to the "Rule of Law" and the US Constitution as it is written. This man seems unconcerned with the interests of 9.5 nationwide percent Americans out of a job; even though it’s estimated 8 million illegal aliens have been hired in replacement for citizens and legal residents. If you want a better future without the antics of Obama's Leftist pro-illegal immigrant organizations, you better think about joining the TEA PARTY. Most of the Republican candidates will follow the establishment rules; not Michele Bachman, Palin or Herman Cain. After reading Ron Paul's book, he is more pro-amnesty, than for deporting illegal immigrants, so he gets a (F) in NumbersUSA slide rule. Michelle Bachmann will protect and defend America from the illegal immigrant invaders.

The cost is killing these nation Public services and has aided partially in the proverbial debt ceiling controversy. This country must use the “Point System” as European governments have implemented. Bring to America the highest stratum of skilled workers. No taxpayer should have to be forced to pay for other countries desperate, specially the family members who are sponsored. CHAIN MIGRATION ends up a taxpayers nightmare, as the majority of these people ends up in the welfare programs. The old, sick and mentally sick are discarded and live in poverty on Supplementary Social security or other programs, which become our burden. Call your representative at the State or federal and bombard the switchboard in Washington at 202-224-3121.

A voter regis¬tration card or Absentee Ballot is an effortlessly obtainable document, as they are routinely issued without any checking of identi¬fication or found in Drivers License Bureau or Post Offices. Absentee Ballots are easy to obtain and very easy to use in fraudulent purposes to vote. Because of the dire consequences involved in the historic Presidential election, Americans must have some guarantee that non-citizens do not vote in this significant elections.

    9. Brittanicus says:

This is costing citizens and legal residents 113 billion dollars annually, for welfare programs, education for children and of course health care. It should be drilled into America's brain, that all these services are free, as most of illegal aliens today are ECONOMIC, as the initial sponsor or his family entourage never paid enough into the Federal or State general funds.

Farmers and Agriculture who are complaining to their State Representatives and Congress about not enough workers, are financially abusive to taxpayers as the illegal alien laborers only get paid wages, but his children get free education and the family that are uninsured have no choice but to head for a free clinic or take their seats in a hospital waiting room, with no expense to the farmer himself. Once again it all falls on the shoulders of the US taxpayer.

Then every year, over a million legal immigrants arrive in America, given visas to work. Hundreds of these immigrants are highly skilled with professional references. But many are low skilled and enter the work market, which is already bulging with jobless Americans. This is the fault of Congress, not just the Obama administration. These visas are pressed through the labor department by disingenuous business owners to chop American and permanent resident wages, to substitute them with new immigrants who receive no benefits and less dollars for their employment.

THE COURTS HAVE FORCED US TO SUBSIDIZE ILLEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR FAMILIES. You cannot as a citizen-resident leave the emergency rooms of hospitals, without leaving your Drivers License number and Social Security number. Perhaps you don't realize it, but you are paying for illegal immigrant treatments, the education for their children, their instant citizenship baby, so they receive free natal care, before and after birth. You are hounded by debt collectors. These illegal aliens are sinking the entitlement ship for Americans. Most of these forced laws are fund-less mandates on all of us, enveloping this country in President Obama's agenda of transforming our nation into a socialist society; where everything is free, to those who don't want to work and millions of economic illegal aliens.

Often referred to as Comprehensive Immigration Reform, pro-amnesty groups seek to offer legal permanent residence to illegal aliens. Comprehensive Immigration Reform bills were introduced in Congress in both 2006 and 2007. In 2006, separate versions were passed in the Senate and House, but an agreement was never reached in conference committee. In 2007, a version in the Senate proposed by Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy with support from Pres. Bush failed to reach a cloture vote. The grassroots effort from NumbersUSA, FAIR, CIS members, along with millions of voters was a major reason why the amnesty failed. During the 2008 campaign, Pres. Obama offered support for amnesty, and with an overwhelming majority of supporters in the House and Senate, but it failed to pass. President Obama looking for future votes to appease foreign nationals used his executive order to interfere with deportations as of yesterday.

Yet another deficiency of immigration enforcement is Senator Harry Reid's State of Nevada. With an extremely large population of illegal aliens in the Silver State, officials say the lack of enforcing immigration laws is making a bad situation even worse. The University Medical Center in Las Vegas had to face a $70 million budgetary shortfall in 2010. Today the dollar figure is sure to be much higher. A report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal found that illegal aliens receiving dialysis treatment was costing the hospital more than $2 million per month. Nevada taxpayers are forced to pay for these circumstances that the report says "continues to worsen." Casino's have an abundant of illegal nationals, and the residents who are looking for jobs want E-Verify and "Secure Communities" mandatory throughout Reid's state. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) just announced a study that found illegal foreigner’s expenditures cost Nevada $630 million annually. The state is looking in the face of big budget deficit. Its unemployment is over 9%. Nevada voters are growing restless and will develop into more trouble for Sen. Reid's privileged measures for illegal workers and the companies that hire them.

    10. Brittanicus says:

ANOTHER BACKDOOR AMNESTY! THE 8th AMNESTY FORCED UPON TAXPAYERS BY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT.

WHEN IS OUR GOVERNMENT GOING TO RETURN TO THE WISHES OF ALL US TAXPAYERS?

The Administration has come under scrutiny from the open border groups and the radical organization of La Raza for its record number of deportations, despite its strategy of focusing on only criminal illegal aliens. LA Raza mantra is to occupy the South West, which is selling lies to its own people. The British King tried to intimidate the colonists, which turned into a bloodbath on both sides. Still, half of last year's 400,000 deported illegal aliens had not been convicted of a crime other than entering the country illegally. But several states, including Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Arizona, have increased efforts to arrest individuals in the country illegally. I REPEAT–WHY IS IT NOT A FELONY, FOR ENTERING A SOVEREIGN NATION LIKE MOST FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS?

"The Obama administration should enforce immigration laws, not look for ways to ignore them," stated Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), head of the House Judiciary Committee.

      1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli Act: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens. Eventually this amnesty was processed, the total number added up to 6 million and that’s without the CHAIN MIGRATION of family members; that taxpayers are still paying for, when the original sponsor dropped out and left the Mothers and fathers, some siblings who live off the taxpayers dime. Read the total impact of the IRCA law at http://www.numbersusa.com/content/files/pdf/1986%

      2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens. 3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994. 4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America. 5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti.
      6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens. 7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens. 8. Obama's Amnesty of 2011, allowing 300.000 illegal aliens who could be eligible to receive work permits if their deportation is postponed through the Obama Administration's new policy. Yesterday, the Administration announced that the Department of Homeland Security will appraise all deportation cases on a case-by-case basis and only deport illegal aliens who have been convicted of crimes. All these underground amnesties brought into the country millions of more family members through CHAIN MIGRATION LAWS.

    11. Reynolds says:

President Obama has decided that deporting illegals is bad politics — they are his future voters.

Fact is, Bush 41, and now Obama, have had an attitude of "if they get here and are working, don't mess with them." This attitude encourages illegals openly flaunting the laws of the U.S. If captured, they only get slapped on the wrist for a violation, and they are back in Mexico, many times within 24-48 hours, only to try it again.

Try slipping illegally into Mexico. Watch what happens. When apprehended you'll do years in prison.

Either we are a nation of laws or we or not. Vote for a candidate that promises to fight for securing the borders. This nation is simply unable to assimilate 10-15 million more illegals in the next decade. We don't have jobs for 25 million Americans now, how bad do you think it is going to be with another 10-15 million illegals competing for work with natural born or naturalized citizens? Bad.

Get in line. Go through the legal immigration process.

    12. Zoltan Stupar says:

Now is.the time to find up who's who for the American people. The destroyer Obama and his way or the congress and the constitutional law.

    13. grace says:

obama is right about the law,it does need to be fixed though per say fixing the border so that more people cant come in thinking that they are going to come here and get a visa just like that..but the people that are here now there is no reason to make there families suffer by deporting there loved ones..some of these people have been here years if there not out commiting crimes (killing, rape, etc,)there is no reason to deport them think about it what if it was your family member here out just walking around and gets picked up because they look like they might not be legal..how would you feel?or if they are illegal and get deported for no reason sure they commited a crime by coming here illegal bu have you ever been to there country?give them a break..have a heart and put yourself in there shoes for a moment and think what if…what if…thanks for reading

    14. guest says:

WILL CONGRESS STOP THIS ?? we have no jobs for our own, let alone the welfare they all draw in. they all get a welfare check if they have a child, and they all have several children unless something is medically wrong? even if they work, they get a welfare check, becuase in the system it shows they dont have a social security number to show they work, so they get welfare checks and work and buy homes
drive nice cars, so every illegal gets a check for a child, and more for more children, then their children start having children at the age of 12, then they get welfare for the casa, also people living in TJ Mexico are collecting USA welfare checks, they come here to have the baby in the USA, move back to Mexico, but use a relative or friends address who live in the USA and state they live there, so their checks go to their friends address, they live like kings in TJ. also many of them are stealing social security numbers from our seniors they are cleaning houses for, and they will be rewarded for their scam ? welfare fraud is enough to deport? then we wouldnt have any here. Problem with this whole new massive breed over here is, they dont like America,

    15. Allisio Rex says:

Congress must now move and take a couple of steps; The first one is to ask Federal Courts, most likely directly to the Supreme Court for a ruling on the Constitutionality of Obama's. unilateral move. The other is to start impeachment proceedings as this is not the first instance in which Obama has demonstrated outright indifference for our Constitution and laws.
This case is not really about illegal versus legal aliens. It's about the rule of our laws and the long established character of our Republic. If Obama is not challenged, with due process of course, (and he knows that he probably will not be re-elected) he will continue to be more defiant to the point that this Country will change profoundly by the time he leaves office.

    16. Steve851 says:

I am a Tea Party sympathizer and very conservative politically (as opposed to socially in which I have little interest). I have little problem with Obama's immigration policy or W's proposals on immigration (one of the very few decent things he promoted). The GOP's stand on immigration is suicidal politically and no one has ever advanced a reasonable argument for it. I have zero interest in wasting taxpayer dollars on securing an unsecurable border or in offending some very industrious people who are natural GOP converts. I don't get it at all.

      • WilliamCree says:

It would seem you must be someone who has not traveled the world.
As someone who has spent considerable time all over the world, I can assure you that if you allow unfettered, unregulated immigration, you will get a unimaginable volume of immigrants.

What seems to be your position, no border enforcement, no work place enforcement, would beckon no less than 5 million new arrivals each year, once the transportation network got organized and flowing.

I could give you a list of nations, and conservative numbers of those who would quickly find a way to gain transport here.

China, no less than 2 million per year would soon be arriving. India, easily 1 million per year.
Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and on and on and on.

You are a very naive member of the world my friend. You seem to have no idea how bad it is in many places such that people would gladly come here if they could only live in the very worst conditions they might find here.
Five million per year would be a low estimate, only initially limited by lack of available transportation.
After a year, converted ships would greatly increase capacity, and lower costs substantially.
Vietnam to Los Angeles, would lower to perhaps $200 on a ship with 10 passengers per small room and meals of rice and beans.

I'm sure you'll be there to welcome them Steve. Can they stay in your garage?

      • Autumn says:

Steve, I am conservative also. I very much disagree with you. If the GOP does not stand up to Obama's choosing which laws to enforce,, the GOP will lose my support. I am tired of reading over and over which party is going to sacrifice our prinicples of this country for a few votes of illegal immigration supporters. I will only vote for those who stand up against such nonsense. It is time the politicians do not take our votes for granted. If both parties support breaking the laws for votes, then neither one gets my vote.

    17. Tea Party Jim says:

Yes, I am a reasonable person, and I expect the President and his lackeys to support the CURRENT immigration laws. Deport the whole 11 million. How's that for a starter.

If all the idiots (including the president) continue to pander to the "illegals", I would hope some political candidates would point out this idiocy to the LEGAL immigrants and tenporary workers and students who have jumped throlugh all the LEGAL hoops to be here LEGALLY. They are the ones who are denigrated by this idiotic policy.

But we, the sheep, along with the LEGAL immigrants, duck our heads and pretend that breaking the immigration laws are not "real" crimes. We deserve the idiots we elect,

    18. Likely_Suspect says:

These Friday announcements that nobody is supposed to pay attention to are really irksome. There's no doubt that illegal immigration costs us much more as a nation than is contributed. With unemployment above 9% we need to discourage these people, not encourage more lawless entry. This is a backdoor attempt to enact the Dream Act, pander to La Raza & placate another segment of the Democratic base prior to election. Immigration is the sole & exclusive domain of Congress under the Constitution, not the executive branch.

    19. Delmar Jackson says:

      Immigration is a racket.
The democrats want massive immigration for the future voters and the republicans for the cheap compliant labor tos satisfy the open border cheap labor globalista lobby whores. The ehtnic advocates get more power by encouraging a growing unassimilating horde, the environmemtalists like the Sierra Club get bought off by 100 miilion and more, the media like moths to a flame get to satisfy their liberal calling and stick to their costant narrative of -Immigration Good, those who want less immigration bad, the churches get to fill the pews that are empty from the native born that are no longer having their needs met by a disconnected church leadership, the academic elites get more students to sell $300,000 government subsidized degrees to students that will never get a job, and worst of all, the self righteous that claim to be more compassionate than the rest of us for having more "feelings" for the "other" than the rest of us while ignoring the working poor already living here will get to wear a huge and heavy moral crown to make themselves feel good while shoving diversity and multiculturalism down everyones throats.

    20. Delmar Jackson says:

Democrat Sen barbara Jordans 1995 Bi Partisan commission came up with over a dozen ways to solve the immigration problem. Her findings were all applauded by the Clinton adminstration and then completely ignored so the call for more amnesties by the usual traitors as the only solution could be renewed.

Immigration and immigrants are not the problem, a simple ID card used only when applying for work or governmemt benefits would solve illegal immigration overnight. Then we would only have to work on the fraudulent worker visa programs.
the problem is those Americans who have been destroying America via the new religion of diversity and multiculturalism just to benefit themselves and their kind.

    21. powpow20 says:

The borders of the United States of America should be secure….all the other countries in the world are. Try going over to another country and homesteading without proper authorization. Why is the laws of our land so manipulated, they can't be enforced? Mexico is not a sleepy little country anymore..it has changed into a violent land…with the Mexican Mafia putting out stakes in America. WAKE UP people! Securing our borders needs to be a top priority!

    22. Jazzee says:

I can't wait to see what the spineless republicans do about this. Illegal is illegal and if they don't have to obey laws then why do any of us???????????????????? will the republicans once again allow barry obama to destroy this country and violate his oath of office????????????????????????????? I am so angry and tired of obama doing whatever he wants we love our country and want him gone.

    23. poogymom says:

A study was done in California to determine why there was such a high infant mortality rate in some areas. The study focused on areas by zip code. Data compiled showed that the highest infant mortality rates were grouped in zip codes with the highest percentage of Hispanic illegal immigrants receiving Medi-Cal (Medicaid) assistance. To summarize: Anchor babies rarely survived to achieve the age 2 years. Those surviving required extensive medical care and continued to have health issues long term. I would like to see The Heritage Foundation study the "non-card Social Security numbers" issue. An illegal can pull all their earnings from borrowed SSNs and apply them to a non-card SSN for SSA benefits. Windfall taxes into the SSA system is a fallacy. Another point to consider is that enlisting in the military for citizenship is problematic in that many are illiterate in their own language, and do not speak English. They are unable to understand and follow orders. They are also difficult to train given the current hi-tech needs of the military. Promotions are illusive for them. I hope I have given The Heritage Foundation some food for thought.
