  • Will Taxpayers Foot the Bill to Market an Obamacare Budget Gimmick?

    During the health care debate of 2009 and 2010, the Obama administration used a number of accounting tricks to try to get the Congressional Budget Office to score the legislation as deficit neutral. One such trick took the form of a new entitlement: the Community Living Assistance Services and Support (CLASS) program.

    The brainchild of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), CLASS would provide long-term care insurance to Americans who pay premiums to the federal goverment for five years. In a ten-year window, then, the program looks financially stable. But into the future, it becomes “totally unsustainable,” as Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius put it. She acknowledged that the program, in its current form, will not meet the requirement that it be financially solvent for the next 75 years.

    Why, then, is HHS soliciting bids for a pair of contracts that would step up efforts to market the program to the American public? Two such contract solicitations – essentially classified ads for federal contractors – were recently released, and show that HHS is trying to sugarcoat the program even before Americans know whether it will meet the law’s solvency requirements.

      Taxpayers ALWAYS foot the bill. That's the only money Washington has to spend.

    2. Daver says:

      Private companies already offer this type of coverage. This is just more governmental over reach.

      We must all pray that the Marxists are all eliminated from gov't in 2012.

      And RINO Republicans like John McCain need to be silenced as well. This is guy is about as deep a thinker as a grapefruit. Why does Fox News continue to provide him a forum for his tripe?

      But let your heart not be saddened–It took the Carter malaise speech to bring us the shining leader on a hill–this election might yet see some of that magic re-emerge!

      will taxpayers foot the bill to market an obamacare budget gimmick? Only if they're not stopped and not held accountable! Can we get some decent, honest people on the democratic side, who appreciate their work in favor of the people with respect to govern by American principles? Many in the democratic party speak and act to oppose these principles! …

      Items One through Four–check…Dismantle the Education, EPA, Energy, and Interior Departments…the states do not need these departments either. The Interior Department is responsible for handling the leases on our petroleum resources, and we all know that energy independence is a must for this country to survive. Congress to participate in Social Security and Obama care—immediately place their funds in SS; No more cost of living increases until national debt paid, and then to be decided by the people; term limits; limits on retirement ; they can go home and work like the rest of us
      To include Executive & Judicial Branches; Obama and his wife's can pay for their own extravagant lifestyle and secret service…if they feel they need protection; our posterity should not be responsible for the upkeep of two individuals who are not proud of their country, determined to bankrupt the country, and have gone around the world apologizing for America. Of all the audacity, 26 servants;
