Democrats lost big in November, but scored an impressive victory at last night’s 50th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game [2]. They beat the GOP squad, 8-2, at Nationals Park. Earlier in the day, the judge in Roger Clemens’ perjury case declared a mistrial [3]. Lots of baseball in Washington, D.C., as the hometown Nats begin the second half of the season tonight in Atlanta.

President Obama will speak to the press today at 11 a.m. for an update on the debt limit. No talks are planned for Friday, although Obama has issued a deadline for lawmakers to reach a deal [4].

On Capitol Hill, the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee holds a hearing on Educating Our Children to Succeed in the Global Economy [5].

And the mania of Harry Potter has struck once again. Die-hard fans were up into the wee hours catching the first showing of the eighth and final movie. The series has captured many in Congress, including Reps. Paul Gosar [6] (R-AZ) and Gerry Connolly [7] (D-VA). As Roll Call points out, Hogwarts appears to offer a metaphor for politics on the Hill [8].
