  • White House Invites Gabonese Tyrant into the Oval Office

President Obama has kept at least one campaign promise: agreeing to meet with nefarious world leaders.

Yesterday, President Ali Bongo Ondimba from Gabon added his name to the guest book at the White House. As director of Heritage’s Margaret Thatcher Center, Nile Gardiner, states, “In yet another display of extraordinarily bad judgment, the Obama Administration is extending the hand of friendship to another prominent tyrant.” Such actions are unbecoming of an American President.

Bongo and his family, the subjects of a 2010 Senate Subcommittee on Investigations Special Report, are known for using lobbyists, family connections, and U.S. trust accounts to bring $18 million in suspect funds into the United States. For decades, family members used the United States as a piggy bank to store their dirty money. According to a recent report by ABC News this should be hardly surprising, as the political dynasty has “siphoned off 25 percent of the gross domestic product of the country.”

In addition to stealing millions from his own people, Ali Bongo as well as his predecessor and father Omar Bongo are responsible for Gabon’s atrocious human rights record. According to the U.S. State Department’s 2010 Human Rights Report, Gabon has an appalling human rights record including ritualistic killings, excessive force by police, harsh prison conditions and lengthy pretrial detention, extortion of immigrants and refugees, societal discrimination among select groups, and human trafficking.

With such a disgraceful reputation, what has Bongo done to deserve a White House visit? In an attempt to defend President Obama’s meeting, White House press secretary Jay Carney stated:

It’s a little naive to believe that the president of the United States should not meet with leaders who don’t, you know, meet all the standards we would have for perfect governance…. This is an important relationship.

Since when has the U.S. relationship with Gabon been important? Gabon is certainly not relevant in the same way America’s relationship with the United Kingdom, Israel, Turkey, or even Nigeria is. Carney attempted to defend Obama’s decision to meet with Bongo, saying that he has been instrumental in “American national security, U.S. interests regarding Cote d’Ivoire, Libya, and Iran and other issues.” Arguably, a lot of countries have. There is nothing special about Gabon’s role regarding U.S. strategic interests.

A meeting with the U.S. President is a major win for any foreign dignitary who travels to Washington. It is a validation of his or her legitimacy and influence on the world stage. The White House should be reserved for America’s closest allies and strategic partners rather than a run-of-the-mill tyrant who plagues his country with cronyism.

Let's see, Ali Bongo's dad was president for 42 years. Then Ali himself succeeded his late father as president with 42% of the vote? Not to mention his earlier and other family members appointments to high government positions. Do you suppose Obama envies this Bongo's unlimited rule over Gabon?

Wife Abusing Muslim Dictator invited to White House Dinner

WASHINGTON, DC – Jun 8, 2011 – African dictator Ali Bongo will meet Barack Obama in the White House this Thursday. Bongo is accused of mutilating his wife, manipulating election results, imprisoning political opponents, and embezzling billions from Gabon’s treasury.

Bongo’s wife, American-born Inge Bongo, told ABC News that “Ali got very violent, he had me kidnapped several times, he had me mutilated, he beat me beyond recognition." A claim supported by photos shown to ABC News reporters.

Bongo converted to Islam after a military coup brought his father to power. The Bongos have ruled Gabon’s Christian majority by force for over 40 years, and in that time, banned the official opposition party, imprisoned democracy activists including Christian bishop Mike Jocktane, and violently suppressed street protest amidst evidence of election fraud.

A 2010, US Senate report on foreign corruption released by Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla), singled-out Bongo’s embezzlement. “Ali Bongo…amassed substantial wealth while in office, amid the extreme poverty of citizens”, further disclosing, “Bongo brought $1 million in shrink-wrapped $100 bills into the United States… without declaring the cash to U.S. authorities as required by law.”

The average monthly income in Gabon is $15, leading to one of the highest infant mortality rates globally. In contrast, Bongo purchased a $150 million mansion in Paris, and his wife appeared on a VH1’s TV show attempting to buy a $25 million mansion in Malibu.

Those of us concerned with women’s rights, democracy, and America’s safety, call upon President Obama to cancel his meeting with Ali Bongo. Our tax dollars should not be used to entertain a wife-abusing Muslim dictator who doesn’t respect the laws or values of the United States.

As far as I am concerned this is all we need to know, to know that Barak Obama is unfit to be president. He has invited a man (I use the term loosely) who has been involved in HUMAN TRAFFICKING. Yes, human trafficking. People being sold as slaves. Women and children being sold as sex slaves.

What is wrong with this President? What is wrong with this country? How is this okay in any universe?

I am just over-the-top incensed at this. This should be trumpeted over the airwaves just like the Weiner scandal has been. I think Weiner is disgusting and should be run out of town…but our White House is welcoming a human trafficker! Oh please, people…vote this president out!

    4. Bobbie says:

"meet all the standards we would have for perfect governance?" What the heck is that suppose to mean? It takes one to know one?

      tyrant

    6. Luis, Arizona says:

Could it be that Obama is jealous of Ali Bongo Ondimba? Let's not be naive, Obama is power mad and has grabbed as much as he could under the circumstances–it is easy to believe that he wants even more power and will attempt to get it. The second term for a president provides great opportunities for people like Obama who think the 200 plus years of wonderful, beautiful success counts for nothing and wants to fashion the United States into a socialist paradise, contrary to reality. He is a lightweight, an inept, a buffoon, an urban hick, hayseed, and an arrogant thug on top of it. But we will get rid of him very soon, and it will all seem like a bad dream, but then we will go back to the business of being the greatest nation in the history of man.

    9. Christopher, Pittsbu says:

Obama wanted advice on how he could be a tyrant and bully

    10. Hairman, Michigan says:

As a NON-Racist taxpayer, I prefer Not to have ANY of my hard earned money entertain ANY people of this sort.

Why is this kind of information NOT made available to the masses? We ALL know about Weiner's weiner!!

Why is anyone surprised by this? Our first post-American president is truly a colonialist at heart. He enjoyed sticking it to Great Britian – returning Churchill's bust and gifting them with a low class store brought selection of DVDs that we'ren't even compatible with UK standards. As a colonialist he hates the conquering Europeans. He also hates America. He loves third world tyrants because he knows that that is his destiny as well. Unfortunately the third world nation he will lead is the USA – if he continues to have his way.

    13. Stirling, Pennsylvan says:

Nice piece, it really shows that our standards are falling to that of most dictatorships and 3rd world leaders who have no moral compass, rather then being the exception. A world of everyone being equal (as this president wants) means a world of no leadership, which is exactily what he doing to this country. Throwing away cherished allies for rogue dictators is either a dumb idea or a calculated choice.

    14. Jax Tico says:

Pretty sure this visit will result in a hefty undisclosed campaign contribution to the Obama reelection effort from Bongo of Gabon.

A thumb in your eye America! ha, ha, ha….

I'm actually surprised that he hasn't cozied up to Kaddafi, Ahmadinejad, or Kim Jong-Il, given the lefts love of third world dictators (Chavez, Castro) that kill anyone with an opposing view. I mean really I figured he would have Bin Laden over for tea and America bashing before having him assassinated (calling it what it is tho personally I feel he should have been beaten to death with large pork sausages, injected with pigs blood and buried in a giant vat of pig entrails) because obviously it was all just a big misunderstanding and we needed to consider Bin Ladin’s feelings in all of that and in reality he was the victim in all of this. In fact the great apologizer didn't issue a formal apology for 9/11 and how we force the suicide bombers into those planes in the first place I will never understand. You know what? we should even go further than that we should offer reparations for the tragic loss of life of those brave terrorists that were only trying to show us the error of our out dated western ways.

in gabon everybody is scared and dances to the beat of the "bongo" drums !! the father practiced suitcase diplomacy (you arrive with an empty suitcase..and leave with it full of cash!!) and voodoo…he demanded sexual favors of his minister's wives…and lived a depraved luxurious fantasy with the cash he stole !! obama may like his style…but even his ego isn't that large (election dependent) !!!
