Today we celebrate Memorial Day, and in a special Heritage in Focus podcast, The Heritage Foundation’s vice president of American Studies, Matt Spalding, fills us in on the history and importance of this day.
“If you want to get a sense of what Memorial Day is, the great poet is Lincoln,” Spalding says. “Lincoln was able to connect the death of soldiers to what America means.”
As we honor our soldiers, it’s important to recall the timeless principles that have enabled us to enjoy our freedoms and flourish as a people.

Abraham Lincoln was the great destroyer of the American Constitution, and we need to stop remembering him as the savior of the Union! He destroyed State's rights. The southern states were not the first ones to threaten with session, they just made good on it. There was the attitude, back then, that any State that wanted to, could leave the Union, until Lincoln used force and the empire and invaded them to make them bow to his will.
The Empire has done nothing but grow since then. Wilson, FDR and LBJ hastened us to where we find ourselves now. Instead of being a free people, we are a country shackled by the Federal government. We are nothing better than the Federal Governments slaves. It is time for us to really remember where we came from and the freedoms, for ALL of our personal choices, that we once had!
People need to self educate themselves on history by going back to what people said and wrote in that time frame. Our history books are all full of propaganda and very little real truth. Truth mixed with lies, is a lie.
MEMORIAL DAY- Protect the living; honor the dead; salute those who sacrificed; stand in the gap not stand down. MARINES-Semper Fi; AIR FORCE-Service before Self; NAVY-Honor, Courage, Commitment; US COAST GUARD-Semper Paratus; ARMY-This we Defend. AMERICAN CITIZENS-We salute you!
