  • Online Chat on Heritage's Budget Proposal

Join us on right now for our “Lunch with Heritage” online chat. We will be joined by the Director of Heritage’s Center for Policy Innovation, Dr. Stuart Butler. Dr. Butler played a large part in drafting “Saving the American Dream: The Heritage Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity“. The plan puts forth ideas on how to reform major entitlement programs like Social Security, Medicare, and reforms health care. By reforming these programs and reining in spending, the plan balances the budget in 10 years. Dr. Butler will be taking questions about the plan, how we balance the budget, what we cut, as well as what we don’t cut.

Heritage Saving the American Dream budget proposal is good on many things.

But on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid the first question is that these are not enumerated powers.

In addition to reforming these programs, the Congress should submit to the States a constitutional amendment to authorize these programs. Unless approved these programs should be gradually discontinued.

    2. Rick, Fairfax says:

Your overall spending levels are much better than the Republican plan, but aren't u vulnerable to the same (CBO) criticism on using the exchange for Medicare- increased costs? To avoid the mediacrat's charges of inhumane "cuts", would seniors be allowed to stay in traditional Medicare while the alternatives are incentivized so recipients can choose down costs for "savings"? As another option, how about vouchers for direct care? What about using non-M.D.s as a first step? $12-14K per senior is ridiculous. We can cut that by half w/o sacrificing health.

    3. Leon Lundquist, Dura says:

Thanks Stuart, good discussion. I only wish we were better than we are, but you are so right! We have to start somewhere, our problems are so very pressing. I wish the House would Impeach various Officers of the Obama Administration for the High Crime of establishing Unconstitutional Forms of Government.

We could balance the budget tomorrow if we took down all those Criminal Departments. Bring it down in big chunks, because every one of thos Departments have failed in their "Policy" products! Billions of dollars we have spent on Junk Policies! We have been had!

Big Government Is NOT the Answer

Your tax dollars are being spent on programs that we really don't need.
