  • Obama’s Texas Two-Step on Immigration

In case we needed any more signs that President Obama’s re-election campaign has started, today’s immigration speech in front of a friendly El Paso, Texas, crowd was a great reminder.  Despite failed attempts by previous administrations to convince the American people that rewarding illegal immigration is sound policy, President Obama seems to think his oratory has been the missing ingredient all this time.

It’s obvious that political calculations are driving the President’s push for immigration reform in light of his all-time-low support among Hispanics. President Obama’s advisors remain convinced that immigration reform will guarantee their support, despite polling that indicates that unemployment and education are issues that keep most Hispanics up at night.

Unfortunately President Obama continues to believe that Hispanics are single-issue voters who will reward him for his stump speeches on immigration.

The truth is that if President Obama were serious about improving our immigration system, he would be looking at ways of working with members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, rather than resorting to campaign rhetoric that makes light on the real need to secure our border.  There’s no doubt that we can look at ways of helping streamline and improve our immigration system, but we cannot undermine the importance of the rule of law that is the cornerstone for any democratic society.  Regrettably, this is certainly a part of the President’s prescription when you peel off the political rhetoric.

If political calculations are driving the President’s agenda, he should start with the economy, unemployment and the skyrocketing gas prices.  Hispanics, like the rest of the country, are looking for real policy prescriptions that won’t add more to our deficit while creating economic opportunity and prosperity.  What’s more, Hispanics are looking to live out The American Dream to ensure that their children and grandchildren will be able to live in the greatest country on earth.

Of course, missing from today’s speech was how current federal spending projections are seriously jeopardizing our country’s economic prosperity and quality of life.

Perhaps that will be for the next time the President addresses a largely friendly and Hispanic crowd?  Don’t hold your breath.

America is clueless on the millions of illegals in America, however they know how many are here legal and paying or not paying taxes. Since 1990 we have allowed over one million and that does not include all the illegals which have arrived on American soil. Since 1970 we have added over 30 million to our population.

The census Bureau projects our population in 2050 to hit 404 million. We will be looking more and more like Mexico, India, Africa.

We must close our borders and stop the influx of immigrants. There are no jobs!

    2. Diana says:

Why can't someone or anything stop this President from ignoring the rule of law. Come On Tea Party!!!! Anyone? His policies are destroying our country.

    3. West Texan says:

I welcome an open border for law abiding workers and visitors from Mexico. They serve Texas' economy well. What Obama needs moats and alligators for is to stop dangerous criminals from entering the U.S.

    4. Jeanne Stotler,Woodb says:

BHO needs to differ between legal and illegal. We have thousands of illegals, they get false papers (recent ring broken up last week) that cannot be picked up on, these illegal take jobs that Americans can and would do. Even McDonalds was caught in a deal where they were furnishing illegal workers with bogus green cards, etc. Meanwhile my sons in construction and home repair cannot get work, my grandsons cannot get work, and thse do not show up on the unemployment as they are in 2 cat. that don't show, slf-employed and those who have just gotten out of school, then we have those whose unemployment has run out and those who are working for MUCH lower wages and part time, in truth unemployment is about 15% or higher, yet you'll see the illegals working and sending money back to their countries( Go to any wester Union and just hang around for a while, you'll see) Also watch the transfers in Bank of America who's new name should be Banco de Mexico

Israel Ortega is right, the Hispanic Voters are Victims of Progressive Socialism! Nobody is more American than the Hispanic Families with deep generational roots in this Country. Their neighborhoods are all going to Hell from the Illegal Immigrants and their gangs. Trouble is, Hispanic Voters can be misguided and misinformed. 'Precedent' Obama is a master of deception and so much s**t up against the wall will stick and like all the years before, Progressives will get away with it!

Demo-crats are in bed with the Communists, including La Raza. They were caught red handed teaching our kids to be anti American down in Tucson! They were teaching the Hispanic kids they should give border States back to Mexico! I would bet my life they teach nothing about Sovereign Citizenship, nothing about Free Enterprise and the Rule of Law! The DREAM Act is importing chaos from Mexico, that is all it is.

If Obama was serious he wouldn't talk like a child and paint a cartoon into something as violating as illegal immigration. If Obama is serious, HE'D ENFORCE THE LAW THAT WORKS WHEN IT'S ENFORCED!!!

Thank you, Israel. I appreciate your position at Heritage. I don't appreciate this leadership's attempts to build resentment between good people while holding hands and aiding the not so good people on the path to government dependency off the backs of the good of America!

Thank You, Mr Ortega for your well placed words.

Left- out for all dissussion, is the voice of the highly respected Hispanic Commuinites that have established roots in the South West, for decades, and also helped, to build this great counrty.

We're all led to believe this voter base will be led likes lambs used, for votes, in 2012.

You have given some of them a voice.

What allows me to "stay up at night," is the systematic execution that's happening to thousands of MX citizens with no end in sight.

Reported now: close to 40,000 dead or missing.

The inasanity here NOT TO secure our border and to ALSO give protection to, the MX citizens that have managed to stay alive, on ALL border towns where shipping points are key, for the transnational gangs must be done.

Where are the voices from the American Hispantic lobby ?

No one can be held more accountable over this issue then own governemt.

I'm certain you and they, realize that MX is lost; in anarchy, and runned by transnational gangs.

But where are the Hispanics voices?

They should be demanding our government secure our border based on just one issue, HUMAN RIGHTS.
