House Cloakroom: May 9 – May 13
Analysis: Congress will return to Washington Tuesday and begin legislative business at 2:00 pm. Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (which seeks to amend the outer continental shelf lands) leads off with “Assessing Progress in Haiti Act” on deck soon after. Wednesday will focus on the elephant fin the room as Congress is set to take up H.R. 1231 (Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act). This bill will lift the Presidents ban on new offshore drilling and establish a domestic oil and natural gas production goal. Friday will conclude around 3:00 complete consideration of H.R. 754 (Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011). This allows Congress to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2011 for intelligence and intelligence-related activities.
Major Floor Action:
- HR 1229 – Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act
- HR 1231 – Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act
- HR 754 – Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011
Major Committee Action:
- The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a hearing on “The American Energy Initiative: the Jobs and Permitting Act of 2011”
- The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology will hold a hearing on “Monetary Policy and the Debt Ceiling”
- The House Armed Services Committee will hold a full committee markup on the “Fiscal 2012 Defense Authorization”
- The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on “Medicare Physician Payment Overhaul”
- The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution will hold a hearing on “Balanced Budget Amendment Assessment”
Senate Cloakroom: May 8-14, 2011
Analysis: Continuing the latest trend of not accomplishing much of anything in the Senate, Senators will return to Washington on Monday to vote on a judicial nomination and continue working on the Small Business bill. Senator Reid filed cloture on the bill last week, but the cloture vote failed, largely because Senator Reid continued to block votes on Republican amendments. Unfortunately, the only votes that passed in the Senate last week were a cloture vote and a final passage vote on a district court nominee, John “Jack” McConnell, who spent 14 years as the director of Planned Parenthood in his home state of Rhode Island and is a political activist for issues important to the far left. It is incredibly unfortunate that his nomination was approved by the Senate.
Major Floor Action:
- S. 493: SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Act of 2011
Major Committee Action:
- The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday, May 10 on upstream oil and gas technologies.
- A hearing titled “Steps Needed for a Successful 2014 Transition in Afghanistan” will be held on Tuesday in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
- Another hearing on Tuesday in the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will be held to discuss the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- The Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, May 11 to discuss the pending U.S. – Columbia Free Trade Agreement.
- The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing on Thursday, May 12 titled “The Endangered Middle Class: Is the American Dream Slipping Out of Reach for American Families?”

So the Republicans have abandoned their promise to end ObamaCare?
I read somewhere that Boehner has given up on the idea of even defunding the monstrosity.
The Liberal Democrats don’t have to worry. The RINOs in charge of the GOP will always find a way to drag defeat from the jaws of victory.
How much do we pay these folks to achieve absolutely nothing?
The Senate will kill anything the House tries to do. If that fails, Obama will Veto anything the House tries to do. We love checks and balances in our American Government. Keep in mind we are a Representative Democracy. Our Founders made us a perpetual Cold Revolution. Violence is entirely unnecessary in our form of Government. What we must do in Investigate the Progressive Socialists who have rigged Election and taken over our Government. The House has to power of the purse to keep the crazies in line! It doesn't seem able to use it. That is like the Power of the House to Impeach. They have it, but don't know how to use it.
The meaning of the term RINO is 'blind to the Half Vast Conspiracy' so that Bush was a RINO because he left all the Clinton Appointees in place all over the Government. DOJ was chock full of Un-Prosecutors, you will recall Clinton Purged DOJ! Bush left the Traitors in place all over the CIA! Not that Bush was bad. He could not see (could not believe) how corrupted Government had become. Look how Bush keeps out of it today, while Ex Presidents Clinton and Carter are using their position to support Commie Propaganda and One Worlder Propaganda. They are shamelessly in Anti American pockets! But George Jr.? He is a RINO because Republicans have no Ex President to balance out the Crazies!
True, the work of the House isn't totally wasted! The Senate must come under attack for Fiddling While Rome Burns. Trouble with that is, Rome Is Burning! This isn't a drill! People! The Demolition Plutocrats (Demo-crats) are destroying America! Actively! What? Is our IQ 70? Bankruptcy is Damage! Attempted Bankruptcy of America is Treason! Just pull one thread and the whole Half Vast Left Wing Conspiracy will come crashing down! Fail to pull that thread? You are a RINO! The logic is inescapable!
In order to see Congress acting on the Tea Party agenda, we need to unseat those loyal to the G.O.P. machine as well as some of the easier peripheral seats.
I fear that real reform will never happen so long as party hacks such as Boehner are in charge.
I THOUGHT we elected, last November, real people to go in and work for us, the People of the United States??? Guess again. And they need to know that they will serve just one term and out they go. Mean while the GOP is going to pick someone, from all the members, that will buckle under to democratic pressure. Look at Bonner (you know who I'm speaking of) At least that's how I see it….
Here we go again. The Foundry finds in their hearts to Censor material that may be offensive to ANYONE. I happen to make light of the pleasent, great, wonderful, kind (is that better "Foundry?") Speaker of the House and they deleteded.it. So, here I am lying about the truth because I get shot down if I tell it like it is… Thanks Foundery for nothing……I won't be back.
THANKS FOUNDRY….sorry I hurt your feelings………………………
Hey Foundry? Are you working FOR the People or the Democrats???
