  • Morning Bell: Failure is Obama's Strategy

On March 2, President Barack Obama anointed Vice President Joe Biden as his lead negotiator on coming to an agreement with congressional conservatives on this year’s federal budget. Biden then spent half a day on Capitol Hill talking with Republicans before jetting off to Europe. The next week, Senator Joe Manchin (D–WV) attacked the President on the Senate floor: “Why are we doing all this when the most powerful person in these negotiations—our president—has failed to lead this debate or offer a serious proposal for spending and cuts that he would be willing to fight for?” What Manchin doesn’t seem to realize is that failure is Obama’s plan.

After an unprecedented two-year spending spree, President Obama is not looking to change Washington’s bad habits anytime soon. However conservatives got the message in last November’s elections. The American people want them to take substantive steps towards scaling back an out-of-control government. House Republicans passed a seven-month continuing resolution to keep the government operating that cut $61 billion in spending and blocked funding for a host of terrible policies, including Obamacare. This was a good first step. A modest step Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and President Obama are unwilling to take. In response, Reid and Obama have offered only the status quo.

The White House strategy is clear as day: It knows the American people do not currently trust President Obama on federal spending. Not only do 62 percent of Americans currently disapprove of President Obama’s handling of the federal budget deficit, but for the first time in recent memory, more Americans say they prefer the approach of Republicans in Congress (47 percent) on “cutting programs to reduce the budget deficit and still maintaining needed federal programs” than President Obama’s (43 percent) approach. The White House knows it has to improve these numbers before President Obama can negotiate short- and long-term spending deals that protect his big-government spending priorities. So how is the White House planning to change these numbers? Two words: government shutdown.

The plan goes like this: President Obama does nothing now and allows the existing continuing resolution to expire. The White House and its media allies then portray the resulting government shutdown as the end of Western civilization as we know it (remember the TARP debate!). Americans’ faith in the Republican approach on “cutting programs to reduce the budget deficit and still maintaining needed federal programs” tanks. President Obama then emerges as the centrist peacemaker balancing the spendthrift congressional Democrats with the mean-spirited congressional Republican spending-cutters. President Obama’s base then pretends they’re offended at some very minor cuts, centrist Republicans cut a deal, and the President’s popularity soars like it did after the December tax legislation. Conservatives then go into the deficit ceiling and 2012 budget debates as untrusted losers. That is the White House plan.

Conservatives can’t allow this to happen. They should fill the void that President Obama’s failure to lead has created. After all, this debate is occurring because the previous Congress failed to even try and pass a budget, one of their basic responsibilities. They must make sure their constituents understand that President Obama and Senator Reid are not acting in good faith. The time for more continuing resolutions is over. This is about much more than cutting $61 billion from this year’s budget. If we cannot trim a meager 2 percent now, what hope do we have of tackling entitlements? We must make the tough decisions now because we know President Obama won’t.

    1. Mark Brown, Gainesvi says:

A 2% reduction in this year's budget is too low a target. I would like to see at least a 10% cut this year, and an additional 10% next year,

    2. rockingg says:

This is exactly what the plan is and has been all along. Every action points to it. Surely intelligent people can see through this ruse. The whole idea is to break this nation and it's economic, freedom and prosperous base, the building won't stand if the foundation is compromised. Everyone should share this article, it is simple and to the point. This is the last stand for our future posterity we know the difference but they will not. It is unbelievable that so many only want to see for what is right this minute and not look to the future and the bigger picture. If those on welfare and subsidy think they will be taken care of as top priority they are wrong they are like pawns in chess the first to be sacrificed and sacrificed they will when the funds are low or in control of a global dictatorial governance. Wake up citizens, stand up for yourself no one cares more about you and your family than you yourself, NO ONE.

    3. Friedberg says:

      READERS:

IN YOUR "OBAMA" POSTS AND BLOGS AND WRITINGS, Give Obama full credit by name for his works and "accomplishments." SHOW WHAT THE Lying HEADLINES LEAVE OUT.

DON'T say "the administration, the White House, the FCC, the Senate," etc., ALWAYS say "OBAMA…."

    4. Mark Connecticut says:

Neither political party wants a government shutdown because "We The People" will see how irrelevant they are and once that reality becomes known, their power will be greatly diminished!

    5. toledofan says:

Isn't it just amazing that we would elect someone to be our President who is actually worse than J. Carter. I think, at least, J. Carter cared about America, I fear Obama doesn't. But, the real point is that it's always about politics with Obama, Reid and Pelosi, it never seems to be about what is best for America. Heritage has been right on the money regarding this and we can only hope enough people wake up before the damage is unrepairable. The other point is that because of the lack of experience within this administration, we are seeing exactly what happens when America shuns her leadership responsibility, chaos, misguided efforts and in many cases more suffering.

    6. G. Hugh Bodell says:

Validation at last, just look at the date on this post.

Chaos is this guy's agenda and the agenda of his puppeteers and has been since January 20, 2009!

      Quote. from this article –

"The White House and its media allies then portray the resulting government shutdown as the end of Western civilization as we know it (remember the TARP debate!)."

What did everyone think BHO meant when he said, " we will fundamentally change America"?

      Sure seemed clear to me.

    9. Lloyd Scallan (New O says:

Congratulation! Someone finally gets what Obama and his Dem lackeys are

attempting to do to this nation"s economical system.

    10. Frazier Marks, Esq. says:

      Dear Mr. Boehner:

Providence has given you the opportunity to lead. We, the people who worked so hard to give you the majority, pray that you will do just that. America is watching. We're still here. We have your back.

    11. Stephen Norling/Nece says:

The problem here is how the conservatives get their message out. All of the major media outlets, with the possible exception of Fox, will be spouting Obama's inane garbage. Unfortunately, too many people take these talking heads a always telling the gospel truth.

    12. charli coon, washing says:

In your second paragraph you say that the House Republicans blocked funding for Obamacare. It is my understanding that they did not vote to "defund" Obamacare thus allowing the WH and HHS to continue to agressively implement provisions of Obamacare. The House Republicans still need to defund Obamacare in order to stop the current spending on it and to live up to the plegde they made to the voters. Please correct me if I am interpreting this incorrectly.

    13. Steve Cafaro Fort My says:

National bankgruptcy is a solution. The sooner the USA defeats herself economically, the sooner we can return to the path of financial sanity. We all know that the present course is unsustainable, but both the Republicans and Democrats for obvious reasons, refuse to deal with the reality of America's lethargy.Economic failure is a viable option when those entrusted with power are corrupted beyond redemption.

    14. George Colgrove VA says:

You are right – we need people to act. $61 billion in cuts is offensive. Though the republicans are doing SLIGHTLY better than the democrats are, they have only proposed to attack 3.7% of the annual deficit – the democrats – 0.1%. Rounding to the nearest 10%, both have done nothing to decrease the $1.61 trillion dollar annual deficit. The Neocons have just got us into another war, which will likely eat up the $10 billion in cuts we just authorized in a matter of a month. Therefore, from the liberal standpoint they lose NPR so the DoD can take that money to kill people and destroy things. From the Tea Party standpoint we are basically back at zero in having any chance at decreasing the debt. From a defense contractors point of view – whoo-hoo! With wars costing us roughly $75 billion a year each, it is getting clear why the Republicans are looking at $61 billion in cuts – transfer that money through war to the DoD. This is turning out to be an insidious money grab!

The thing both parties are not saying about these budgets is what the expected tax revenue they expect there will be. Moreover, this is born out of unreasonable expectations of what the GDP will be. It has taken the GDP 6 years to go up $1 trillion. Somehow, magically in 2012 the GDP is supposed to go up $800 billion. Then roughly a trillion each year after that?

      YEAR GDP TAX Budget

      2007 $14,077.60 $2,567.98 $2,728.94

      2008 $14,441.40 $2,524.01 $2,982.54

      2009 $14,258.20 $2,105.00 $3,517.68

      2010 $14,508.20 $2,162.73 $3,456.21

      2011 $15,079.60 $2,173.69 $3,818.82

      2012 $15,812.50 $2,627.44 $3,728.69

      2013 $16,752.40 $3,003.34 $3,770.88

      2014 $17,782.20 $3,332.59 $3,977.14

      2015 $18,804.10 $3,583.05 $4,189.77

      2016 $19,790.50 $3,819.10 $4,467.81

The maximum climb in the GDP was in 2006 with a shot up of 770.5 billion. It was period of similar climbs in previous and following years. However, this growth had to do with excessive federal spending – which is also a component of the GDP.

The Feds are lying to us. Bernanke has already admitted that the 2011 GDP will take a negative hit from the increase of oil prices and all the chaos in the world. This will have a cumulative effect on the GDP and the expected tax revenue. Tax revenue for this year alone is lower than they were expecting (because so many of us are out of work or for those of us who do not work for the feds, got pay cuts.)

They are using imaginary GDP numbers and higher tax rates to boost the revenue side of the equation so they can further boost the spending side. What will happen is the GDP will not be where they need it to be, thus the taxes will not come in as hoped. This will make the annual deficits even larger (Anyone willing to go over $2 trillion?) Moreover, future annual charges of $900 billion in interest are on the forefront. We are only paying upwards of $250 billion for that interest right now. One can see that this deficit will climb by over $2 trillion a year – indefinitely! We may actually be unable to fund any government since all the tax collected will go to debt service. We are so close to the point of not being able to pay this off without closing the entire federal government – defense and all!

The only solution is to reduce spending in a big way. We need to stop getting into wars, and we need to reduce the ones we are in. We need to slash entitlements and we need to cut as many other programs that we can and put that money – not into war, but paying the interest and the principal of our debt. Historically, the feds have only been able to collect taxes in the order of $2.2 Trillion in 2011 dollars without killing the economy. We did go over that in the mid 2000's, but look where we are now. We need a budget of no more than what we collect. That rather sounds stupid saying, but the wizards of smart in DC do not seem to get it! We need to pay off the full interest and we need to start paying back the debt. Those two items will eat up almost a trillion alone! The non-debt service federal budget will need to be $1.4 trillion. We are paying over $500 billion in interest right now – do we really want to wait to do something until the interest gets to nearly a trillion – they are saying that can happen in less than 10 years!

There are times we reflect back in time and say “. . . if only we had . . .” Well we are at one of those critical periods we will be looking back at. If we do nothing substantial RIGHT NOW, we will be failing ourselves but more importantly, generations to come. Where are all the smart people in the federal workforce that we are supposed to be so happy we pay twice a normal salary for? What is so maddening is these clowns can cut their budgets right now – today! They can cut their overpaid workforce this minute, if they wanted. However, they choose to hide behind the inept congress and the even more inept president.

    15. Bill, Land O Lakes, says:

I tend to feel that Reid and the Senate Democrats will continue to delay the approval of ANY budget, therein in effect trumping any attempt by the House to have their cuts approved. If they can continue to pass stop gap measures to keep the Government running, they have indeed won the fight.

    16. Don Vander Jagt, Gra says:

Most of the Republican leadership is R.I.N.O. so there is little hope they will do anything of consequence concerning the budget. If on the other hand they are not blinded to the fact that the boom just might get them the next time around they may still wake up. Although the Republicans collectively put forth some reasonably good ideas, they come across as incoherent. What the Republicans need to do is hire an articulate spokesman who not only knows how to put things, but is smart enough to stay one step ahead of those that are destroying America, and let him or her become the voice of the party. Governors, Senators and Representatives need to agree on what it is they wish to accomplish in their attempt to save America from continuing down the present path of destruction, and then speak with one voice.

    17. Roger TN says:

This budget is a classic case of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Neither the Dems or Republicans have the political will to do what is necessary to save the nation's economy. From what I have observed, most are willing to take the hit essential to recover, BUT the pain must be shared. No sacred cows. Get to a balanced budget, with very few exclusions (e.g.,natural disaster and attacks on the Homeland). This current President stated that he would prefer to have one "good" four year term than two "bad" terms. Looks like he is working on having a "good" four years with Michelle going along for the ride.

    18. Turner, Massachusett says:

Shut down the government and spend all our resources to impeach Obama before he spends them with his constituents. I believe we have our opportunity in the Libyan war, and Liberal support. DO IT NOW! Obama is out to wreck America.

    19. Robert, North Richla says:

The Liberals are on the two yard line, and our only chance is to force Obama to scramble so that we can attempt to sack him back at the 50 yard line (and get half of our Constitution back). But with defensive ends John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, or tackles Eric Cantor and John Cornyn we don't stand a prayer's chance in hell. All Obama has to do is audible, or use a hard count to draw these wimps offsides and the game is over. I do agree that more waffling by Boehner will "lead" to disaster in 2012 – for republicans.

    20. George Colgrove VA says:

What the goons in DC don't get we are in a state of emergency! America cannot properly broadcast it's exceptionalism with the debt we have. It was a pain staking moment seeing the ONLY PERSON IN DC WHO GETS IT, Adm Mike Mullen on TV this weekend trying to tote the Obama line.

I would feel very comfortable with Adm., Mullen taking the helm this second in an attempt to put martial law – only on governments. I think he is the only person who understands the vastness of the debt problem and the dangers it has on our nation’s security – not just today, but in decades to come. He was the first person to admit that the debt was the nation’s premier national security issue. He also is the first high-ranking official to admit the DoD is on the wrong and very expensive dangerous path!

It was sad to see this highly qualified and decorated soldier squirm in his seat knowing we do not have the bucks to save the oppressed Libyan people. The United States Federal Government and her federal workforce have spent our exceptionalism on high paychecks, glorious federal buildings, and waste that would make the largest landfill in New York City blush!

    21. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

Obama wants the America, that was the greatest country that ever existed, to fail completely! He wants a socialist country, not an America great in itself, but an America as a part of a greater whole namely a One World government with the United Nations as the seat of that world government.

He tramples the Constitution because it is the basis for America's greatness. Nothing he and his socialist followers has done is aimed at returning America to a great productive country. He has acted as a dictator since day one. Our Individual lives have not been bettered under his presidency.

Republicans have never been able to get their "message" across to the American people and they are failing now. They need to stand for "saving America." The public needs to realize that only Individualism and Free market Capitalism is what provides incentive and a means for the individual to better his plight in life. Socialism and its collectivism produces slavery and the obliteration of any value of Self.

    22. Ken Jarvis - Las Veg says:

      "Strategy"???

What is the GOP – "Strategy"

Murdochs Empire – WSJ and FOX

are the VOICE OF THE GOP.

    23. Cindy Katz. Santa Fe says:

I totally agree with the Morning Bell: The Obama White House knows exactly what they are doing by appearing to put Biden in charge of working with Congress on the budget and Obama seeming to be totally disengaged over Lybia, the budget, Japan, et al. And I totally agree that they will paint the REPs into a corner, because we are so practical, and Obama will emerge at the appropriate moment to appear as the centrist. Heaven help us! We know all of this, but there is NO Republican who is willing to risk — besides Christie — stating what We The People long to hear: The Truth about what is going on and what We The People have to do to foil the Obama Administrations strategy to fool The People AGAIN. Where is the leadership? The Heritage Foundation cannot be the only voice. We need a Reagan now! Where is that person? 2012 is too far away.

    24. Jim Patterson, Dulut says:

And just why are we in a budget crunch? Because the Dems and Prezbo didn't pass a budget when they had control of the House,Senate and White House. But no lamestream media is mentioning that at all. gotta be the fault of the cruel, vicious, hate filled, etc. etc. Republicans.

    25. Norm LA says:

Failure of America has always been the plan. Rev Wright taught Obama about America. The plan continues to bring America down to the size of his vision. Stop our own oil production while boosting that of Brazil's oil ? Dump seniors in a Medicare death panel to save Social Security, control what we eat, what we drive, how we heat our homes, stop the poor from educating their children, the one big cut in the government bureaucracy is DOD and end the space program which has had countless benefits. Two billion of the stimulus money was appropriated for Hamas, dis America's long time allies, including Israel, who word is wanted fly over rights above Iraq to bomb Iran's nukes, and were denied by Obama who denied Israel of jets, built in America and were paid for. Stop enforcing the civil rights laws against blacks. This is the plan – failure for America. Libya is just another in the long – two year string.

    26. Peter N Gauvin says:

President Obama had to help create the "No Fly Zone" in Libya due to pressure by the civilized world and that of his totalitarian friends in the Arab world who fear Qadhafi's military might. But, he new he was going to piss-off his "gangster" base. So he is doing everything he can to ensure Qadhafi's "Dictatorship" will survive. This is not his first showing of support for world dictators.

    27. Gene, Italy at the m says:

In times past, I used to engage in a game of teasing my Italian brother-in-law about Italy's quasi "socialist" state. Now the shoe is on the other foot as I have become the butt of his jokes about Obamacare and other issues that are slowly but surely dragging the United States into the same kind of budget quagmire that is found in most of Europe. The only real difference that I can discern is that we Americans can and will do something about this mess, if not before, in 2012. We did it in 2010 and we can do it again. Please all of you who read this, put your shoulders to the load and push with all your might. We must rid the present government of all the Democrats that remain, including POTUS. We can do it if we want!

    28. mike hutchings says:

its better to live in the corner of a great house….. than live with a brawling woman in a wide house….thats a bibical reference from eccleasisties(sic)… probably it is. its not better when its your house divided intentionally and the very institutions that support the walls are demeaned as being unworthy and the people who care go in want of an advocate against an increasingly faceless administration bent on social control and not public service.

    29. Ron, Bakersfield, CA says:

I don’t think it can be argued, by any free thinking person that one thing is obviously missing in Washington.

It’s not seen anywhere on Capitol Hill. Dems and Republicans run from it like they are being chased by Godzilla.

It’s almost like we as a nation have forgotten what it is or what it looks like. Would Americans recognize it or would we hate i if it did immerge?

Among all politicians that are in Washington an undeniable truth shrouds all of them. In the land of cowards, backstabbers, narcissistic losers, and idiots there is not one LEADER among them.

Without a leader, all this babble is pointless. All we seem to do is replace one set of problems with another.

This time however, America really screwed up. We have an incompetent president. The bad news is who will replace him? Old has bins like Newt Gingrich? Or is the best of the best really Sara Palin?

Lib’s have turned this country upside down over the last 50 + years while the silent majority did nothing. Sadly, the only hope in building this country up again (if we can) is in the hands of the Republicans.

So, Republicans, Develop a spine, do what you know to be true and let the voters take care of the rest.

We are taking applications for the position of: Leader of this great nation. Send your resume to the America People.

    30. Peter N Gauvin, Mass says:

    31. George W. Starch III says:

In short, we've a know-nothing in the White House that, by bombing Libya, has entered our nation in an undeclared and illegal act of war.

    32. Tom Florida says:

Obama's plan from the beginning has been to destroy the economy and build a base of over 50% of the population dependent on government who will vote for the left to keep their meager payments going. The poor and especially Black poor have been sold out by their leaders; who are now multi millionaires thanks to the poor accepting their fate.

Obama said in his 2001 or 2002 radio address that the US Constitution gave too much to the people and that had to change. The legislature, he said did not do it, the courts even the Warren court did not do it, he said, the executive branch will have to do it by executive order.

The leftists of the world saw this, his certificate of live birth was manufactured about this time (not crazy check the original certificate put up that had to be taken down), and Obama was going to be President of the United States. The communists have taken us from inside as they said they would do.

Only the right being right and not compromising with evil can bring us back from the precipice that we have brought on ourselves.

    33. Zilla says:

The last Congress didn't even try to pass a budget last year, and nothing happened, no shutdown, so why would the new Congress not capitulating to leftist demands result in a shutdown NOW?

    34. Sharon Knopping,2120 says:

Thank God someone finally has the courage to say it as it is~ Obama does have a strategy – it is to ruin this country as we know it and have us join the lands of Jihadism. It will be a tragedy of unprecedented proportions if he gets reelected in 2012

    35. John R. Maravich says:

The Republicans need to understand what gave them the House majority: Americans are fed up with out of control federal government spending by Democrats. The Republicans need to frame the debate as out of control spenders (Democrats) versus responsible stewards of the people's money (Republicans). The Tea Party will keep the Republicans focused on cutting spending. Obama's so called charm and ability to read a teleprompter will not be sufficient to win the day with thoughtful Americans.

    36. John Arizona says:

I ask again, HF, can't you eliminate Ken Jarvis from the comments section of the daily broadcast?

He seems to believe FOX News and R. Murdoch control everything in the media, and yet CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post et. al. continue to wet themselves making sure they don't disparage BHO or anything he does.

Ken – either quit drinking the Kool Aide, or get another outlet for your misguided rhetoric.

    37. KC - New Mexico says:

Wonderful – conservatives and Tea Party members would generally agree with this HF article. However, reading the editorials in papers, magazines, and other web sites, the liberals like what is being done. They like being given more for doing less. They like for those who have to be taxed to give to those who do not have much. They like entitlements such as crappy public education, welfare state funding for medical expenses, union control, food stamps, free this and free that, etc. Even Hollywood likes what Obama does!

      1. So how does the conservative side of this country get the word out and make sure all of America knows the truth?

      2. How does the conservative side including Tea Party members make a difference?

      3. How does this group stop being concerned with the professional political decision making and stand up and do what is right for this country?

    38. Stirling, Pennsylvan says:

Friedberg, the president (obama, fcc, etc) are all under his control and policies. Therefore HE is responsible for the consequences of their actions. The Left, as a rule of thumb is trying to deflect blame from Obama due to the results not being popular, not constitutional, or bad policy in general. Please ask yourself if this was G.W Bush in charge if he would get the same benefits from the media. The Truth has no agenda unlike the progressive movement which is "the ends justify the means."

    39. Will, Louisville says:

      Fact,

Bush started WWIII by invading Iraq under false pretentions. The unease tensions of the Mideast continue w/ or w/o the US involvement in Libya.

Obamacare is to help all, not the rich that continue to get richer and believe in a class society. A company is not an individual as the Supreme Court ruled.

People do not believe in global warming from lies made by previous administration. Why in hell would you not want to protect the environment?

      Does this sound like WWJD?

    40. Gene MN. says:

The democates always seem to be thinking twenety years ahead of the repubicans why is that. It look like we got a bunch of RINO'S again what happen with that contract with America, It must have went right out of the window, what happen to defund obamacare. John Boehner, Mitch McConnell both don't have a backbone! I'm sick of the socailist left and the repubicans think I'll go third party.

    41. Mark Arnold says:

I would like to know how much could be cut by shutting down about 10 cabinet posts/departments. Specifically, the ones that are not Constitutional (i.e., Education, HHS, Commerce, Transportation, etc.) Has Heritage Foundation ever asked or answered this question?

We are betrayed on a daily basis by the majority of the Federal government, political pundits and the media. As House Republicans diddle with 2.5% spending cuts, defunding NPR and Planned Parenthood, the real fire is being ignored. All spending needs to be cut. Defense is not sacred, and anyone whos been in the military knows of tremendous waste. Just as planned. We conservatives are being led down paths of broken promises, liberals are being decieved by the POTUS and the country burns.

I would hope the HF calls the Republican leadrship to task. Loudly!

      But, I fear they won't.

Keep jumping from crisis to crisis, keep Heritage writing one paper after another, radio bloveators talking, news teams running around the world, and unfortunately letting our brave fighting force be killed.

The Republicans are just as much to blame as the Democrats. They should focus on one item…after the election, they said it was health care… they should focus on and defunding it to destroy it. Realistically, even the Republicans want to keep federal health care…it's a ticket for taxing to preserve their jobs.

It's not a question of shutting the down the government. For all practical purposes, it is shut down…It's only the talking heads that supply the life-support.

    46. Daisysue says:

I do not and can not believe that all the congress and senate are deaf dumb and blind. THEY hear, THEY know and THEY understand exactly what is happening and why…. SOME are for it as They hope to line their pockets even more and the OTHERS are just plain GUTLESS..

The American People have been calling out for IMPEACHMENT/TRIAL for almost two solid years. ALL the while those in power ignore the call.

THE only one to respond is Arizona Rep. TRENT FRANKS. who said, I will push for impeachment as soon as possible, but can not go forward without any backing from from the rest of congress.. I say the only one because Gringrich said it one day and back peddled the next. TRENT is still hanging there alone waiting for the members of congress..He cannot act alone. 47. Dave W. Provo. UT says:

Only We The People can cure this $$$ madness in our government. We must increase our watching of both parties and let each of our representatives know what and why we feel and will do at the ballot box if they don't get the monster we allowed them to create under control. It will take sacrifice and the culling of all our sacred programs but I don't want my posterity to inherit a bankrupt country. Get involved and start communicating with Washington and our State houses, today.

    48. Michael Guy, Canonsb says:

Are we a client state and vassal of the bureaucrats in the United Nations and the European lords of the EU now? Wasn't that the goal of Benedict Arnold and the Tories to re-colonize America as a subject fief to the foreign aristocrats and plutocrats?

Or is this disdain and disregard for our contemptible Congress done with the same dismissive arrogance the Caesars gave to the senate of their time? Like our own President the dicators of Rome used the SPQR pretext for their decrees, (Senatus Populi quo Romanorum for the Senate and People of Rome.

So we now have a Louis XIV, Sun King, who could reply wit the same arrogance when asked if his Versailles expenditures and national debt would bankrupt the state,"Etate c'est moi , I am the state."

May I remind everyone with an obvious fact. Loans are made under terms, conditions and with pledges of collateral favorable to the lender? Our president want to borrow more free trade profit money from China and other foreign investors. These plutocrats will grant this loan, made possible through freetrade, GATT, WTO and our trade imbalance, and demand assets such as drilling sites as collateral. You did not think those Gulf drilling areas were shut down for the environment did you? Our President and many in Congress are acting on the behest of those who will seize American assets. This is why they push for a greater national debt

    49. David Bess, Carson C says:

SHUT IT DOWN, Maybe that will wake up America to what is happening. It is time to stand our ground through the new conservitives we sent to Washington. The entire needs to realize that we wouldn't be here if the liberials had done their jobs and passed a budget like they were supposed. Althought it is scarry to think of what they would have passed.

The house has to set in place a real program to DEFUND obama care and othe harmful or duplicate programs. Nothing should be kept off the table.

Just removing fraud and incompetense from government spending could save trillions, yes trillions of dollars. IBM offered a system to rid the health care industry of fraud and abuse. Their projected savings was $900,000,000,000 and they offered the program to obama for free. Thank you IBM. His turning it down hints at a hidden agenda by him and his followers. Imagine if we extended that prorgam to all government spending what the savings could be.

The proposed 100 billion dollar cut that is being bantied around by congress is an absolute joke. With a four billing dollar budget it comes to 1/4 of 1% ( 0.0025)reduction.This leaves the government with 99,9975% of the current spending. IT is negligible in the overall picture and does nothing to get America back on track. We need at least 10% this year and next year to augment and offset our budget delima. Then we need a constitutional amendment to control spending in the future.

Too much secrecy and stupidty to just be incompetent.

What we need right now to get things moving is a spectacular and resounding "victory" in this Battle of the Deficit.

I'm thinking of the $105Billion in Obamacare pre-funding that is literally lying on the table to be picked up and disposed of. What is it that keeps this item from getting done.

We The People see this as a direct test and right now nobody is taking it. It just lays there, reeking and stinking up everything else.

As Larry the Cable Guy says "git er done". The only person I hear beating this particular drum is Michelle Bachman. Set her up with an ad-hock committee and get this job done.

The voters want this one done!

    52. HawkWatcher, Mi. says:

The prog's "fundamental transformation" (bankrupting) of the USA is moving ahead on many fronts. Their glorious national redistribution continues, enabled by both major parties, opposed by most Americans.

I haven't sent the RNC a dime since just before the 2008 elections, I've been busy supporting individual conservatives instead, the ones that got elected to the House. Now, blocked by recalcitrant Reid and obstreperous Obama, they cannot act on our behalf. It's frustrating to have to wait for elections to reverse the obvious imminent fail.

Someone with some loot needs to start "The Founding Party". The base of this proposed party, the politically ambiguous Constitution, allows for a centrist platform that could attract many voters from the spectrum. The majority of Americans are center-right, yet we have no workable representation at the present time. I would definitely support somebody like Jim DeMint if he created or joined such a "third" party within the Establishment.

    53. Mogoso Lilburn GA says:

I think your premise is wrong. The Republicans should shut down the Government. They should take their case to the American people, we're broke and a continuation of bad spending policies will only make things worse. Tighten that belt, eliminate the $105 billion that Obamacare is budgeted, how tell the US citizens it's fate is tied up in the Court, and why fund something that may be struck down. Your only hiring more leftists to open offices in the gov't nobody will get medical help for years anyway. Stop all discretionary spending earmarks or not. There is so much redundancy in administering so many programs its gotten past funny and went into pitiful. No more funding of the private sector whether it be corporate welfare or farm subsidies (which is really another form of corporate welfare with the large agri businesses. There is just so much stuff to be taken out that gets our politicos the money from donations to stay in office.

Term limits is a start, to getting rid of the cycle of corruption in spending

    54. sherry toledo oh says:

I am really confused about our goverment and obama. I really think they should cut spending by cutting pay to senators, baseball players and so on. They make big money and here we are, taking from us who barely make it.. Why is it always us? Shame on the goverment, shame on obama, course none of them care they all have money. it's like, lets take from the people who are struggeling. Raise the gas prices ,raise the food bill, hum, maybe we can starve them. My S.S. check has not gone up but everything else has. What the heck happen to obama when he gave all those speeches to the elderly, we trusted him to keep us all safe and keep us healthy, what a lier. Now here we are involved in another country fight, where the hell does are money go , to everyone else and not a thing to help us, here where we need it. Give me a break, do you really think if we ask for help they will be here for us,hell no. They would say ,now that we are ok and america helped ,there on there own Wake up, wake up save america, help us . Above all, stop all the raises given to senators and so on, we don't get a raise, why should they.

I continue to be disappointed in Republican the leadership's bashful approach to this battle—we are wasting the mandate we all fought for last fall.

We should press the opposition on every front, make the Democrats "shut down" the government if they wish and, then—hang it around their necks—where it belongs!

That being said, of course he's lying. That's exactly what politicians in a capitalist country do. Any concept that this nation can survive another hundred years on the same broken system is truly unbelievable. Now, it's just left for human beings and Americans to do what we do best, change it.

    58. Daisysue says:

Obama is determined to destroy America and he is out smarting congress. He stalls on everything they bring up and in the meantime he keeps lighting so many fires they don't know which ones to put out first.

Boehner is weak and ineffective, for the good of the country he needs to resign. Congress should never have allowed the second budget extension. Congress needs to take control and use the power we gave them. Make the cuts and fight it out. If that means shutting down the Gov., then shut it down. It will not cause that much damage as the main functions continue working and Certainly not as much damage as Obama is doing..He is becoming more and more reckless, lawless and vindictive with every move/hesitation congress makes.

The majority of Americans are backing congress and are begging them to take direct and drastic action towards Obama.. He and all his close circle need to be brought to trial NOW. There are enough charges against him and his group to press forward with full expectations of winning.

He is openly laughing in the faces of the American People, trampling our constitution, degrading everything America stands for. Continually attempting to subject us to the U.N. Do not be surprised that in his next move our troops will be fighting in Lybia under the command of a foreign nation.

Various members of the SCOTUS should to be removed as Anti-Constitutionalist, mandating decisions that are detrimental and adverse to the overall function of the Rule of Law. Derelict in their duties, acting with prejudice motivated by personal gain and obligations.

If something is not done about the direction in which we are headed we will awake one morning and find ourselves under marshal law with a dictatorship instead of a president.

    61. Joe, New Jersey says:

When you look at the Democrat "leadership" from running away in Wisconsin and Texas and Indiana…to not providing a budget for 2011 – at all – for months – they are adopting a page from Obama's "vote present" gameplan.

The odd adage about large bureaucratic entities appears to apply (aided and abetted by the DNC's propaganda arm – the MSM) – You only get in trouble for making decisions. This approach rings all to clearly these days throughout the Democratic Party…from state capitals, to the US Capitol, to the WH… and clearly, foreign policies appears to be no exception.

But to decide not to decide, is a decision and that point needs to be made clear!

Democrats have decided – that decision is to do nothing and blame it all on the Republicans.

    62. Steven A. Sylwester, says:

In the Major Leagues, getting into a pickle is the result of your own incompetence, and any hope of getting out of a pickle must depend on your opponent's incompetence. Such is base running in baseball. Such is politics. Such is life.

One can only hope that the pickle caused by your own incompetence is not formed with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in the seventh game of the World Series when your team is one run behind and your best hitter is coming up to bat. When there is no tomorrow is when utter defeat happens. Incompetence always hopes that today is just another day.

And so the United States finds itself in a pickle. Our looking to the Left and then quickly looking to the Right back-and-forth trying to determine which way to run is missing the key element of the baseball metaphor, which is that there is an opponent — there is the other team. The U.S. problem — its pickle — is not among teammates (the Leftist Democrats and the Rightist Republicans), it is with outside forces — an opponent — the other team.

Think that through. Ponder it deeply.

I am a 56-year-old lifelong registered Democrat who now self-identifies as a liberal Republican. I have never voted for a Republican for president in the past, but I cannot imagine ever voting for a Democrat for president in the future. I have not yet changed my party registration, because I am still hoping that a viable third party might emerge before the next national election.

The fight is in the middle. America's last hope is waiting to be found in the middle. Rather than looking to the Left and looking to the Right, we need to start looking Up and looking Down. We need to find the Universal Truth — the Middle Ground. And we need to recognize the players and the forces on "the other team."

What caused me to become a liberal Republican are the following:

      1) My faith in God, and my belief that The Holy Bible tells a true story, including the story of Creation — http://steven-a-sylwester.blogspot.com/2011/01/re
      2) My steadfast opposition to "same-sex marriage" — http://www.foundry.org/2011/02/15/memo-to-the-w
      3) The welcome I have felt at the "Huck PAC" blog and at "The Foundry" blog, even when I have argued in favor of positions that are not generally thought of as conservative — http://www.foundry.org/2011/01/13/gun-control-ihttp://www.foundry.org/2011/01/13/gun-control-ihttp://www.foundry.org/2011/03/11/side-effects-http://www.foundry.org/2011/03/11/side-effects-http://www.foundry.org/2011/03/11/side-effects-
      4) My surprise in discovering that I proudly identify myself as a Glenn Beck fan, and that I am willing to defend Beck against all comers, even though I do not always agree with him.

Why Glenn Beck? I was raised in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and Luther's Small Catechism states:

      THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we may not deceitfully belie, betray, slander, nor defame our neighbor, but defend him, speak well of him, and put the best construction on everything.

Simply, I had heard and read so much disparaging vile criticism of Glenn Beck that I decided to find out about Beck for myself before I ever said one bad thing about him. So I watched his TV show to give him a break, and I kept watching his show, and I soon discovered that Beck is a decent and sincere man of goodwill who is trying very hard to make a positive difference in the world. When I reported this good news about Beck to my liberal Democratic friends, I was scorned — in some cases, with great hostility. Those scorning me admitted that they had never watched Beck for themselves, that their poor opinion of Beck was purely their parroting of the poor opinion stated by trusted others, and that they would neither quit their attacks on Beck nor bother to test my judgment of him by daring to watch Beck's TV show for an entire week to find out the truth for themselves.

The fact is: if I had ever said a bad word about Glenn Beck to anyone, I would be truly ashamed of myself now.

Two things about Glenn Beck are especially noteworthy: 1) he is searching for the Middle Ground, and 2) he is trying to identify the players and the forces on "the other team." And I must report that he is succeeding in both efforts.

On March 24, 2011, Paul Krugman wrote: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/25/opinion/25krugm
      and I commented: http://community.nytimes.com/comments/www.nytimes
What both of us wrote is worth reading.

After pondering again the above and what I wrote in comment to Krugman, I offer the following plan to identify "the other team" that the U.S. is playing against:

      1) Congressional Hearing: Subpoena George Soros and place him under oath.

Objective: Determine to everyone's satisfaction whether Soros is friend or foe in two distinct and separate realms: 1) in the realm of currency trading, especially regarding the U.S. dollar; and 2) in the realm of "New World Order" thinking.

      2) Congressional Hearing: Subpoena Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch, Muriel Siebert, Steve Forbes, Ken Fisher, John Bogle, William O'Neil, William Gross, and Richard Fuld and place them under oath.

Objective: Determine to everyone's satisfaction what should be the rules in the U.S. stock markets regarding short selling, and whether the new uptick rule is working. See: http://www.sec.gov/news/press/2010/2010-26.htm Also, consider with the panel the ramifications to U.S. national security of worldwide electronic stock markets: specifically, whether economic warfare against the U.S. is happening now or could ever happen in the future without the knowledge of the U.S. government, and whether effective covert economic aggression against one nation by other nations (for example, against Israel by Arab nations) in the form of negative stock manipulations could be happening without anyone's awareness. Especially, consider whether "investing" is happening in an Internet Age in which computer programmed trading by large investment firms is the norm, or whether what should be investing is actually warring manipulations and convenient collusions that are exceedingly unfriendly and unfair to individual private investors.

      3) Congressional Hearing: Subpoena leading economists, business scholars, and experts in all aspects of international trade agreements and treaties.

Objective: Determine to everyone's satisfaction whether it is time for the U.S. government to start treating all multinational corporations as sovereign nation equivalents, and therefore require them to sign and then honor legally binding trade agreements or treaties in order to sell their products and services within our borders. A significant part of such trade agreements or treaties would be guaranteed permanent full-time employment for American citizens in U.S.-based manufacturing, service, retail/wholesale, and/or distribution centers. Simply, if a multinational corporation is going to sell in America, then it must hire and permanently employ Americans in America according to acceptable standards.

      4) Government Accounting Office Report: Single-Payer Universal Health Care models

Objective: Determine to everyone's satisfaction what the economic impact of several different single-payer universal health care models would be. Of course, I offer my own proposal for GAO review: http://steven-a-sylwester.blogspot.com/2009/12/na

Regarding my Universal Health Care model: I am fully aware of the tendencies that government bureaucracies have to become stupid and wasteful. My proposal states: "There should be no profit motive in the U.S. health care delivery system, except that which motivates efficiencies — and efficiencies are crucial. The thinking of Dr. W. Edwards Deming needs to be put at the very center of the U.S. health care system in a way that becomes defining, and that then radiates the thinking throughout the whole system with a mighty transforming force." If you do not know who Dr. W. Edwards Deming is, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Edwards_Deming

For example, if it were mine to do, I would determine through a national inventory based on the previous year's computer record of actual health care insurance payouts what the exact percentage of existing natural funding is for medical care across the U.S. I would then separate out experimental care and new care from established proven care, and I would assign the oversight of experimental care and new care to the U.S. Senate while assigning oversight of established proven care to the U.S. House of Representatives. Doing so would guarantee an established percentage of funding for experimental care and new care without any risk of loss of funding, and the focus on that care would be more stable and long-term because of its Senate assignment.

Because the U.S. House has 435 representatives who each represent an equal number of citizens, I would divide the nation into five equally populated geographic areas, so the House "established proven care" medical costs oversight responsibility could be foremost exercised on a regional basis. Each area would consist of 87 House districts, with both rural and urban settings spread across several contiguous states. This arrangement would allow for experiments in standard practices within an area, and for efficiency competitions between the five different regional areas in ways that would encourage ongoing innovations and inventions in even the most mundane aspects of "established proven care."

Understand this: because each regional area would have the same population, each regional area would have the same allotted budget for "established proven care" medical costs. Therefore, game on! I believe it is possible to get better and better, i.e. more efficient, if there is an active ongoing encouragement to do so, even within the context of a U.S. government health care program.

The main problem with the U.S. health care system is that many of its secondary problems are either invisible or unknown, and the most significant cost drivers within the system come from forces outside of the system. Furthermore, the system justifies its exorbitant compensations with its exorbitant education costs, as if extreme wealth should naturally be the reward for extreme education, especially extremely expensive education. Basically, all of the system's plugs need to be pulled out and then tested individually to discover where the overloads are occurring.

In the end, the system must serve the needs of just two user groups: 1) the caregivers, and 2) the patients — and it must serve the needs of those two groups equally. I do not include the needs of insurers and of malpractice lawyers, because those two groups are parasites, and they must be entirely expelled from the system if the system ever hopes to achieve its full potential. Quite literally, the insurers and the malpractice lawyers are on "the other team."

      * * *

      Rules for America:

      1) Do not be stupid.

      2) Know who your friends are and who your enemies are, and never mistake your friends for your enemies or your enemies for your friends; treat your friends like friends.

      3) Learn to follow the advice given by Jesus to his disciples: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." (Matthew 10:16)

      4) Always determine the weaknesses, failures, and unintended consequences of new technologies in an established system before those who have an intent for evil can achieve any advantage; think like a criminal, but never act like one.

      5) Know this: The first person to actually listen to the other person usually wins the debate, because there is nothing so disarming and so endearing as the words "If I understand what you are saying, you mean …" when the words that then follow turn out to be absolutely correct.

      6) No matter what your religious beliefs might be, agree with the observation of Saint Paul when he wrote: "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13)

    63. Bobbie says:

Steven, I appreciate your comment. I apologize if I've offended you in any way. You seem sincere in your comment and that is greatly respected. (sincerity.)

I am also sincere in what I write. The government went out of their way to dump this on us, planned years in advance. If we'd heard from you initially things might be better understood? I am not going to put trust in the government of America when we continue to be played as pawns beyond our control.

Please understand we are all looking at a huge and intentional government violation to our lives. I guess not all of us, 30 million are exempt.

    64. Steven A. Sylwester, says:

      Bobbie,

Understand this: I am opposed to Obamacare, because it only serves to further advantage the U.S. private health insurance industry.

The only workable answer to the U.S. health care problem involves nationalizing the U.S. private health insurance industry. The equivalent scenario is this: if gangrene is present on your foot and ankle, an amputation of your lower leg is necessary to save your life. America is now in the financial dire straits where the equivalent of an amputation is necessary. It must be done.

But take this to heart: What I am proposing is a massive system-wide efficiency upgrade. The only thing being "amputated" from the system is a whole layer of profit-taking bureaucracy that literally does not do anything productive or even necessary. Truly, the private health insurance industry does just one thing: it infringes. As an outsider, it successfully dictates to your physician what can and what cannot be done in your care, because it alone controls the purse strings.

Yes, the U.S. government can and will infringe somewhat in a Universal Health Care system, but at least the patients and the physicians will have a say in that as citizens. In the current system, the patients and the physicians really have no say, except as beggars in disputes in which the private health insurance companies serve themselves as both judge and jury.

Simply, the private health insurance companies control all of the small print. You can pick which "small print" package you want, but whichever package you buy is best thought of by you as a "grab bag" white elephant purchase, because no amount of thoughtful reading on your part will ever reliably tell you exactly all of what you just bought. Out of nowhere, private health insurance companies can — and do — deny coverage, and the usual reason behind all the baloney is simply this: they do not want to pay the bill, because paying the bill drains away their profit.

Buying health insurance in the U.S. health care system is in actuality placing a bet on your own destiny in a fixed game that is fixed against you. Why should anyone have to bet on whether they will ever get cancer? Furthermore, why should you ever be denied health care that you need because you placed hopeful bets when you should have placed despairing bets? What we are now doing is stupid. Worse than that: it is cruel and heartless.

Yes, we could do Universal Health Care in the wrong way. But it is possible to do it in the right way. If you can, improve on my starting point.

Bobbie, you did not offend me in your comments. In fact, I appreciate your comments very much, and I honor your sincerity. In any communication exchange, the question is always this: Am I who I am? Or am I who others perceive me to be? If I am the latter, then who is responsible for the misunderstanding: me or the others? Well, I cannot control the listening and the comprehending of the others, but I can control my own efforts to communicate. So, Bobbie, your comments were helpful, because they forced me to try again in making myself clear.

      Steven A. Sylwester

    65. Bobbie says:

Well Steven, it was the failure of government. There is no reason private insurance companies couldn't have proper oversight, but government failed. I'm billed after the insurance goes through so I know their covering their part. I don't feel cheated by insurance and I'm not a cheater. I empathize with the fact government is involved.

Another failed duty to budget the funds, it's government that neglects to pay their bills regarding their control of social security, medicare and medicaid insurance.

The reason costs continue to go up is because government provides (at the cost of the personally responsible) to those that aren't responsible. No matter if you're rich or poor, the responsible is paying more. I know it for fact the government has been the problem for quite some time.

I'd appreciate your plan without government involvement as their involvement includes corruption that isn't found until it's too late if ever. Any problems in the private sector can turn to the better business bureau. But government isn't trust worthy and your plan won't fly without it. Thank you, Steven!
